    ***Official Smackdown 7/7/06 Discussion Thread***

There will certainly be no brotherly love when WWE storms into Philadelphia’s Wachovia Center for Friday Night SmackDown.

The biggest story—and perhaps one of the most anticipated and talked about stories of the year—is the return of Batista. It’s been six months since WWE fans have seen The Animal in the ring, which has left many people wondering how he’ll address the situation involving the Championship he was forced to vacate. Will Batista still be the force he once was, or has injury tamed the beast?

But Batista's return isn't the only huge story for SmackDown. A Battle Royal will be held to determine the No. 1 Contender for Rey Mysterio's World Championship for The Great American Bash. Who will be the next Superstar to try and bring Mysterio's amazing dream ride as Champion to an end? We will find out Friday night.

Also, Mark Henry was out for blood last week, decimating the Guerrero family name and even going as far as saying he’d spit in the face of Chavo Guerrero’s late Uncle Eddie for Chavo’s interference in Henry’s match with World Champion Rey Mysterio. After unleashing a ferocious beating on Chavo’s, Rey tore down the ramp to come to his friend’s aide. Unfortunately, Mysterio was met with the same fierce attack as Chavo, and looked to be knocked out as “The World’s Strongest Man” left the ring. What kind of shape will the Champion and Chavo be in this week after suffering such a vicious beating?

The Great Khali continued to wreak havoc on SmackDown, rolling Gunner Scott into a body bag, mocking Undertaker. Then, through his manager Daivari, Khali issued the Deadman a challenge in a Punjabi Prison Match—a first of its kind in WWE—to take place at The Great American Bash. Will the Deadman break his silence and respond to the challenger, or is Undertaker as afraid of the 420-pound giant as Daivari insists?

    Better late than never!

This show is actually pretty ho-hum. It's like "wait until the end so we can see Batista".

    "ECW" Rebound?

JBL's commentary has been better tonight. Talking about tag team chemistry (mentioning The New Blackjacks with Windham), talking about great Mexican wrestlers. And he's putting over that Punjabi Prison Match like a pro.

Helms/Lashley. I hope Helms isn't booked like a total POS.

That is a nice addition, a touch of old school.

Well, I marked for Big Dave. He beat the hell out of Mark Henry and yelled a bunch of stuff. I'm a big Batista fan and while I don't have high hopes for the actual match, this is a great way for him to come back. I'm not worried though, Booker T will get a couple good matches out of him. I see no reason for Booker to screw up his first big payday in years by being unprofessional.

Helms was booked weak, but at least Lashley sold a little. Ah, who am I kidding...that match was Superstars material.

All Hail King Booker!! Seriously though, even though smackdown doesn't have a lot of so called big names I usually find the show to be pretty dam entertaining. Maybe that's because I tivo and fast forward through the commercials or dead spots like the Great Khali. It was great to see Batista come back and he was killing Mark Henry with that chair, dam. For a sec in the Battle Royal I was thinking possibly Matt Hardy would win but all must bow to King Booker I guess.

I love Matt Hardy, and it would have been amazing for him to win that, but we all knew it wasn't going to happen.

Sadly they plan on reuniting him with his worthless brother when Smackdown debuts on CW.

Why? I think Hardy is such a good singles wrestler, and I thought that Jeff was in TNA and he's not working and he's still getting money... why would he want to go to WWE?

Yeah, there's no doubt that he's fun to watch in those kind of matches, but outside of those one or two matches a year, he's just a repetitive spot monkey. I'd have no problem with him returning to the WWE Cruiserweight Division, but I think Matt Hardy has progressed too far as a singles wrestler to go back and reunite with Jeff Hardy.

I really don't understand why they don't give Hardy a more featured role on Smackdown, he's a decent wrestler who seems to be over with the crowd...and it's not like SD! is exactly loaded with talent.

You're right, I just didn't want people thinking he was completely worthless. I should've quoted that post...

As far as Matt goes, he seems to be bullet-proof. Maybe after SummerSlam they'll do something with him. That would be a year of punishment. Come on Vince, that's enough time!

Matt Hardy...I will not die! But I will job! It's sad.
