***Official ECW on SciFi 8/1/06 Preview & LIVE Discussion***

    SmackDown's Animal gets extreme
    By Louie Dee
    July 28, 2006

This Tuesday night, ECW invades the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. And in the main event, the Animal will get extreme, as SmackDown’s Batista will challenge ECW World Champion Big Show for the gold.

The match was made on SmackDown this past Friday Night. Paul Heyman entered Theodore Long’s office to question him about putting Big Show in the Punjabi Prison Match at The Great American Bash. However, Heyman had an offer; since Long used his jurisdiction at the Bash, Heyman told SmackDown’s General Manager to come to his jurisdiction…and bring someone to compete with Big Show. Long agreed and knew just who to bring, telling Heyman it would be the Animal Batista. With that, a match many would consider a “Dream Match” was made.

Since winning the ECW World Title on July 4, Big Show has put down all comers from every brand; from Ric Flair to Undertaker to Kane, the ECW Champion has been successful every time someone has stepped up to challenge him for the gold.

But now, he will face a man who has six months of pent-up aggression and rage to blow off. Anyone who saw what Batista did to Mr. Kennedy at The Great American Bash knows that the Animal is still hungry, and with the ECW Championship on the line Tuesday night, Batista will certainly step up his intensity to an even higher level.

The Animal will be unleashed on ECW Tuesday night at the Hammerstein Ballroom; will he become just another victim of the 7-foot, 507-pound Big Show, or will the ECW Champion get eaten alive?

    ---

There you have it, next week's main event is The Big Show vs. Batista. That makes no sense to me, why not continue the Taker/Kane storyline?

I see it as almost a NWA type belt situation... every week a new guy... instead of different territories it's different guys from Raw and Smackdown.

Batista? This whole superstars from the other brands going after the ECW title is getting boring. We know they're are not going to win, especially Batista. They need Batista on Smackdown. All the ECW title matches, so far, have been ways for these guys from other brands to develop their storylines. Why not develop some one else in a feud with the Big Show who is actually from the ECW lockeroom. They had something at the beginning with Tommy Dreamer. I guess they're just going to play this thing out untill RVD comes back, gets a huge pop, and wins the title back. I do agree with candyman though. They should develop the Brothers of Destruction storyline again. It would be cool to see Taker invade Raw or Kane invade SD.

Yup, I was thinking the same thing.

And oh yes, I will be at the Hammerstein Ballroom for this.

I kind of like what their doing, but on the flipside there is no reason to just throw guys without a backstory at Big Show.

I would have liked Kane & Taker to develop into something bigger here and maybe throw that lump Khali into the mix until the whole Sabu & RVD developments get underway going after Big Show.

They have something good going with Big Show as the ECW champ which is working much better than I would have ever thought.

This concept is actually growing on me. It's almost a nod to the old days of wrestling, when you'd tune in and watch Hulk Hogan defend the WWF Title against Leaping Lenny Poffo on a random Sunday morning.

Or you'd tune in on Saturday night and watch Ric Flair defend the NWA Title against Robert Gibson or Road Warrior Hawk.

The matches come out of nowhere. You KNOW who's going to win. But as a champ, you don't ALWAYS defend your belt against premiere opponents, much like boxing. Look at Mike Tyson's title reign. There were a LOT of chuckleheads he defended that belt against. They weren't always marque matchups. But they were big fights because people wanted to see Tyson.

Maybe ECW is attempting to make it so people will always want to see what Big Show will do next...how much damage he'll dish out next...how much damage he'll have to fend off.

yeah I'd love a spot where the entire ECW heel roster runs out destroys Batista and then have Show chokeslam him from the top rope putting him through the ring much like BBB back in the day...

thus cementing Heyman's heel stable, and two giving ECW that holy **** moment they have been looking for.

It's interesting with what their doing, but sometimes it also feel like Big Show is just chewing through the competition week after week. One thing is that Heyman has made him into a legit bad@ss. Look at the last time that Heyman managed Show I think in 2002 or 2003, he made him into a bad@ss and resurrected Show's career.

but that's what they are trying to do... make him into a badass that can't be stopped.... thus when he's beat it'll be a huge moment.

CM Punk on national TV...that's gotta be a pretty big moment for you, eh? How long before you accuse him of "selling out" and proceed to bash him every chance you get, telling us how much better he was when he wrestled for CZW or ROH or whatever nickle and dime fed you're watching these days?

They should have RVD & Sabu put Big Show on a table and do the double leg drop from the top rope thing. Would be a cool way to bring back RVD, and the building would go crazy.
