here are my more detailed thoughts...
Yes, I posted these on a wrestling forum, so if you see them, I posted them both places... Made some changes for the OS one though..
Great show!!! Crowd for the most part sucked, but mostly it was due to the ladder match taking all the life out of the crowd for the rest of the night...
Awesome set design, it was huge, probably took up a 1/4 of the arena... There was so much fire though that the stage started to melt pretty badly by the main event.
Anyways onto the matches...
Dark Match...
Olvig(SP) Prutis(SP) The guy Jerry Jarrett brought into the E, came out dressed in Russian soldier garb saying he wanted to destroy the American WWE superstars... Scotty came out and the match was on... Short and sloppy best described this match. Finish came when Prutis(SP) had Scotty in a reversed firemans carry position and then did a back breaker where Prutis(SP) landed on his knees and Scotty staid on Prutis's(SP) shoulders. 1/5
Inferno match
Fun gimmick match, nothing special though. One side would not stay lit. I felt bad for the one crew guy that kept trying to light it as everyone watched...2/5
Ladder Match
When this was announced, Giggas and I acted like school girls... giggling and giving each other high 5's!!!
First off I would just like to say thanks to the WWE for putting a match like this on the card... MOTY canidate in my opinion. The Mercury spot was probably the sickest thing I've ever seen in person... Blood everywhere... As he was being dragged away, blood was just flowing down his body. Another spot that scared the **** out of me was the Sliced Bread #2 off the Ladder from Kendrick. He never fully rotated and I thought for sure he would be paralyzed but lucky him he landed on his shoulders and neck and not his head. Also take note of Regal's overhead release suplex on London?(or was it Kendrick) on the ladder. A great spot that will probably be overshadowed by the rest of the match. MOTY worthy in my opinion... 4/5
I missed the next two matches trying to get food... Had a BBQ Turkey Wing... probably the best stadium food I've ever had... anyways, after seeing the two matches on tape here are my thoughts...
Miz vs. The Boogeyman
As said before, nothing bad, nothing good. At least there was no horrible botches... 1.5/5
Benoit vs. Chavo
Really good match. Loved the 8 germans in a row, and also the sharpshooter finish. 3.25/5
Wang vs. Helms
Not sure why the crowd shat on this match so badly. I was really entertained by it, and the swinging neckbreaker from the top was a great move. I see in the recaps JBL ripped the fans for their reaction to this match, and rightfully so. Probably one of the top 4 matches of the night... 3/5
Taker vs. Kennedy
First off, while I love Taker and his entrance, it took about 4 minutes tonight! The match itself was a ton of fun, but the stage was so large the hearst was actually blocked from my view... Taker falling off the stage may have come off well on TV, but live, while the fall was impressive, the sound of Taker hitting a large padded mat was kind of embarassing. Another good gimmick match. 3.5/5
I watched the entrances of the Main Event, and then decided to beat the traffic home... also caught the ME on tape and here are my thoughts...
Main Event..
Cena got the largest pop by far here... By Batista's entrance, I was worried the set was going to crumble because of how badly it was melting from the amount of fire they had been using the entire show... nothing impressive in this match, and Batista seems to be really struggling out in the ring... This match was to make the crowd happy and it did just that, but as a PPV main event, I wasn't pleased. 2.5/5
Final Thoughts...
Loved the show, minus the ending. The Ladder match was such a surprise, and I'm greatful I got to see it in person. I saw Summerslam two years ago in person, and I have to say, top to bottom this show was the better of the two
