Do people even remember the last year of ECW? Life-long jobbers were main eventing PPVs!

I came to terms with this "ECW" a long time ago. It would never capture the feeling of the original. It couldn't, and that has nothing to with any McMahon, Helmsley, or Dunne. Vince owns it and he can do whatever he likes with the name. After all, it lasted as long as it did with his help.
You are giving year 2000 of ECW a bad rap, JJ. We saw some excellent matches that year, admist others featuring guys who were "not yet ready." How about Tajiri? He was ON FIRE in 2000, with the Tajiri / Mikey v. FBI matches giving us some of the best tag team matches that we've ever seen. Jerry Lynn and Steve Corino had big years, and although Justin Credible was still overpushed big time, we saw Rhino rise to stardom and Sandman become relevant again.

Hey, in my neverending project of burning my old VHS tapes to DVD, I watched Massacre on 34th Street last week. As I recalled the PPV prior to watching it recently, I remember it being about as average of an ECW PPV as you could find. Heck, I was there that night. However, after I watched it again, the PPV DESTROYED anything out today. I mean, nothing we see today is even close, in terms of consistent wrestling action. I was shocked, and realized just how low our expectations have become (is this what VKM intended?). So, I don't think you can say that 2000 ECW stunk, as it had many great moments, despite some regrettable ones, including a solid PPV to close out the year.

I'll grant you that GAC 2001 wasn't too hot.

These guys have to come up to the main roster sometime, why not throw them on "ECW"? They'd have a better shot of getting over on the show with the least star power anyway. And let's face the facts: ECW WAS a feeder league.

Never was intended as a feeder league, but of course the economics of the day made it that way. All but the few "holdouts" who never went full-time to WWE or WCW.

But of course, AFTER they went "big-time," nearly all of them became far less entertaining.

I really wish the E would make the old ECW PPVs available to purchase on DVD. I mean, who is it hurting?

I just watched Barely Legal last night and that PPV is better than almost any PPV put out today...

But that's the only PPV I have on DVD, and really the only one I can have because none of the other ones are available(well, maybe one here or there, but they normally cost you an arm and a leg).

Rise and Fall sold great, both One Night Stands did great, I don't know how Bloodsport did, but I'm sure it couldn't have been bad. There's obviously still an audience that wants the old ECW(even though Vince always denies this) so why not cater to that audience and make money at the same time by releasing the PPVs on DVD or On Demand or something(other than Vince doesn't wanna show people what today's PPVs have become compared to those of ten years ago)?

Sorry, I'll end my rant now lol

Anyways, as for today's ECW, it wasn't bad up until D2D. Hell, for quite a while I said it was the best wrestling show on TV. But now it's just horrible. The storylines have little to no direction. The matches are all rushed and never feel right. There world champ has the charisma of a doorknob. Basically, there's only three reasons to tune in anymore:

        1. CM Punk
        2. Hope RVD/Sabu are on there game(it's 50/50 odds nowadays)
        3. Watch Shannon Moore get massacred.

I'll keep watching, hoping something changes soon...but it looks like it's just a developmental territory with a couple bigger names to bring in viewers. Nothing special.

Smackdown's where it's at right now.

I still think it stunk. Maybe it was my favorites leaving, maybe I needed more time to warm up to the new guys, maybe I was spoiled, maybe I missed the Madhouse of Extreme (I could still smoke those funny cigarettes at the Hammerstein, but still). Whatever it was, I just didn't enjoy ECW in 2000 as much as I did in the past. I just thought the black cloud was moving even closer. The begining of the end, and then it just kind of ended abruptly. When it was happening, I didn't like it, and now after it's all finished, I like it even less.

I remember leaving both Massacre and GAC disappointed and sad, like I knew this was it. I refuse to watch them on tape/DVD becuase when ECW did close, I really was sad. And those were the shows that told me, "yeah, ECW as I knew it is done". Unfourtunatly, I was right. I even stopped watching the WWF/E sometime after that "true visonary" Stephanie McMahon was named the kayfabe owner and didn't start again until The Rise and Fall of ECW was released. That was my closure, which is why I could care less what is done with name now. I already shed my tears and realized my precious ECW was never coming back.

At least I can get my live wrestling fix from ROH. They had a sick table spot last night, it'll do.

Hey, that's right! You're not into ROH at all, Dondadda? Don't worry, I'm not saying ROH is the "new" ECW, but as far as good shows in small venues, you don't get any better on the East Coast.

I don't know how it is where you are, but here in NYC, MOST fyi stores carry the old Pioneer DVDs. I picked up everything that they had at one in Manhattan last year. A bunch of PPVs and a Dudley Boys DVD, and cheap cheap cheap.

Yes, almost all of the Pioneer vids are HIGHLY recommended!!!

All I have to say about ECW 2000 is "Tajiri is God!"

One day I will check out ROH, after the depression about ECW has worn off (again).

              Peace.
