    Random encounters with wrestlers?

    Anybody got any interesting stories?

This is weird- I knew he lived nearby (I just moved out to the Strong I for grad school) but I didn't think I'd run into him twice in less than a month.

First time, I'm at a Stony Brook basketball game against Hofstra (GO SEAWOLVES) and I see Mick out of the corner of my eye. Rest assured, he wasn't dressed in anything particularly noticeable. Typical Mick Foley attire (lumberjack shirt, sweats). I thought that was cool.

Tonight, I go to see Children of Men with my buddies. As I'm walking out of the theater, I see a dude with the sweats and lumberjack pants right in front of me. It's freakin Mick Foley. I'm about to say something to him but he walks into another theater. Mind you, an attendant was standing right in front of him (I'm sure he's a regular there).

Freakin cool- one of these days, I'm going to chat with him. He's a lot larger in life than on TV. He's one of my favorite wrestlers!

    Re: Random encounters with wrestlers?

My favorite "random" encounter with a wrestler was when I saw Rob Van Dam, Sabu and Bill Alfonso at a McDonalds here in Queens back in '97. They were sitting there eating (which was kinda wrong of us) and me and a friend went up to them. The only thing I can think to say was, "We know Rob Van Dam likes the chronic, but what about Sabu?". He looks at us, puts a huge smile on his face and starts shaking his head up and down really fast. Then he gets up and runs out. The four of us started busting out laughing. I was never one for autographs, so we just gave them pounds and left.

I also saw Lita and Danny Doring in a deli, Bubba Ray in a Wendy's and I remember when Matt Striker used to bounce at a club. There's a few others, but they were indy guys no one cares about.

I used to work in downtown Cleveland, and every day of a Raw or Smackdown show I'd see the wrestlers in the mall attached to Quicken Loans Arena, since the hotel is also attached. I can remember seeing Triple H and Chyna shopping, I saw Chris Jericho getting Chinese food, Chris Benoit was buying CD's, I actually said hi to him, he was nice and said it back, then I let him go on with his business.

When I worked down there, I saw many stars, NBA players all the time, Robin Williams once, amongst others.

lets see, one time I was in Vegas and Nitro was in town... I met Ric Flair who was sitting on a park bench... He wasn't particularly nice to me but whatever, he was just enjoying the day. Later that day I took an elevator ride with Chae from the Nitro girls.... She was fine!!! Also she was wearing Nitro girl gear, needless to say I never wanted that elevator ride to end...

Also met Kidman one time... I had more muscle and was taller than he was, so that was kind of weird... I think that's about it. But Chae was my favorite by far.

Was that the Joe Nathan game? I got to Stony Brook and was there, didn't see him though.

I spent 6 years in Calgary so I've bumped into a ton of wrestlers, the coolest being Stu Hart who still had a kung fu death grip for a handshake despite his elderly appearance.

My brother actually was in a wrestling school ran by Teddy Hart and had dinner at Stu's house with the family.

Shook hands with Jake the Snake at a autograph signing back in the late 80s or early 90s.

Ted Dibiase lives in the Jackson, MS area so I've seen him in the airport a few times.

I saw Mark Henry walking the concourse at the 1998 Cotton Bowl.

Can't remember if I've ever told this story or not, but Dusty Rhodes lived in the same neighborhood we did back in the mid 80's. We all knew where his house was, and would ride our bikes past it all the time hoping to catch a glimpse of him.

One day, I'm riding my bike alone to my friend's house, and I had to pass his house on the way. He was in the driveway, getting out of his car (a Caddy) and walking up to his house. He turned around and saw me and yelled out, in a voice only Dusty could have, "Young man...young man, can you come here for a second?" Freaking out, I got off my bike and walked up to him.

He asked me if I lived around there. I said yes. He asked me if my parents had a lawn mower. I said yes. He asked me if I knew how to use it. I said yes. He then asked if I could come cut his grass once a week, and he'd pay me for it. I said hell yes!

So, he had me write down my address and give it to him and once a week, I'd walk the lawn mower over to his house and cut his grass, and once a week, my parents would find an envelope with $20 in it for me in our mailbox.

I did that for a year or so until finally, along with the $20 was a letter from Dusty telling me he was moving away. I still have that letter, BTW.

That very first encounter though was the only time I'd ever actually see him. Naturally, with their schedule, he was hardly ever home.

After a raw show in Chicago at a nearby hotel bar I sat and watched monday night football with Dave/Earl hebner? Tony Garea, Blackjack Lanza and Pat Patterson were also in the bar, along with Steve Blackman. Chyna and Kane walked in together but went straight to the elevators. Kane wore his mask back then but not that time.

Saw the Rock after a live Sunday night heat in a greektown restaurant in Detroit. He was accompanied by 2 police officers and was walking down the sidewalk.

Back in the 80's when the nwa would come to the Cobo Arena in Detroit there is a spot in the back of the building where you cant help but bump into wrestlers as they have to park and walk in. The Horsemen always came in the limo. Sting showed up one time and had the world championship belt in the trunk. Mike Rotunda and Rick Steiner left together in a Tracker once and they wrestled against each other that night. The old ring announcer Gary Kapetta had driving directions in his passenger seat for the house show in Chicago the next night.

My most memorable experience was the night before survivor series 1997 Hart/Michaels they ran a house show at Cobo which turned out to be Bret's last WWF match other than the ppv, they showed clips of the match on his Wrestling with Shadows movie. Undertaker came in a limo by himself that night, and Steve Austin came in a cab...weird?

I've been to so many shows since the mid 80's all in Detroit with the exception of the Wrestlemania in Toronto Rock/ Hogan, and a few Raw's in Chicago and Cleveland. Oh yeah the wrestlemania in Toronto we saw Ric Flair, Eddie Guerrero Kurt Angle Undertaker and RVD in the lobby of the hotel (crown plaza)where most of the wrestlers were staying next to Skydome. Tons of security so it was tough to get near any of them.

Jack Victory and Sign Guy Dudley would come into the mall I used to work in, to do some promo work for the upcoming ECW house shows back in the day. Got to know them pretty well. Everytime they came back, they would search me out to say hi. Really cool guys, and big hockey fans. Once sold a autographed Devils team photo to Jack, using Lou's (Sign Guy) credit card. Lou was bitchin about how Jack wouldn't pay him back for it, pretty funny stuff.

Also met RVD, total flake but cool.
