Charlotte, NC. Back in the day, that's where Jim Crockett Promotions (the entity that eventually became WCW) was based. I don't know if he owned the house or not, but it was your average 2 story house. Nothing really special about it.

My HS was having a low budget wrestling show later that night and Bam Bam was the main attraction. Around noon word got around that he was in the building and eating lunch and hanging out with the teachers in the teachers lounge.

So when we all went to lunch a huge group of students formed a crowd around the teachers lounge door to see if we can catch of glimpse of him whenever the door opened. I happened to be the first kid right at the door. Eventually one of the teachers walked out of the room and Bam Bam was sitting at a table right in front of the door so we held the door opened and just kind of looked at him in awe. Everyone was saying whats up to him whatever and right when the door was about to close I screamed about two feet away from him "Bam Bam, I can kick your fat fcking ***", and it seemed like the entire student body started laughing. Bam Bam's face went from a smile to just a look of confusion.

I just got the hell out of there because deep in the back of my head I thought he may come charging after me. He didn't give a crap though.

      RIP Bam Bam

        Re: Random encounters with wrestlers?

Jake Roberts used to live a couple miles from my house, back in the middle 90's I'd say. First time I met him was at our church league softball game. He was playing 3rd base, in the 2nd innning, I made my way around the bases, and got to 3rd. We had a small conversation there, mainly me telling him how bad Hogan used to beat him. After the game, we shook hands, and talked for a few minutes.

After that, I'd run into him at the grocery store, shopping. And here's a funny store, he delivered donuts here for a short while. Jake The Snake delivering donuts, pretty funny stuff.

Other wrestlers I've met was the late Mr. Wrestling, he went to our church growing up, but only for a short period of time.

And when Nitro was coming to Atlanta, Macon, etc. I was there. I'd get there early, and stay late, usually would see guys like Raven, The Giant, Buff Bagwell, Chris Benoit, the late Eddie Guerrero, Dean "Stinko" Malenko. Even had Raven's "Flock" sit in front of me at one show. Hammer was an intense mother, so was Perry Saturn, he got a drink tossed on him, and I thought he was going to rip the guys head off.

Anyway, theres some of my stories of random encounters with wrestlers.

          Re: Random encounters with wrestlers?

About 20 years ago, when my father was living in Bristol, RI, me and one of my brothers stopped by a local convenience store on his way home not far from my dad's place. After a few minutes King Kong Bundy walks into the store.

Back in the mid-late '70s my father used to take me and my other two brothers to watch the wrestling at Jack Witchie's Sports Arena, a very small place in Attleboro, Mass., every Friday. One night during an intermission, we were brought into the locker room and met Stan "The Man" Staziak and Peter Maivia, The Rock's grandfather. We each got an autographed picture from them. Another night we were there and during a battle royal, when at the time all of the wrestlers that night were in the ring at the same time, and Stan Staziak was thrown over the top rope and almost landed on the people in the front row, right in front of us. Over at the Sports Arena, the front row had no guard rails in front of them and the people could stand up and touch the ring. One elderly woman kept banging on the mat if she thought it was boring and wanted to see more action during the matches.

Met Andre the Giant at a bar in Trump Plaza in Atlantic City. This was probably about 20 years ago. I remember just walking through the lobby there with my mom, dad, and brother and saw him just sitting there by himself and drinking a glass of wine. He was sitting at the bar by himself, but they didn't have the bar closed down just for him. If you wanted to you could have sat down right next to him and ordered a drink. Me and my brother went up to him and asked him for his autograph.

I wouldn't say he was a jerk or anything, but he definitely wasn't too happy to have been bothered at the time. He did sign some drink coasters for us though.

I saw Gorilla Monsoon in a restaurant about 12 years ago.

And once when the WWE was in town, I was driving past the arena and saw Triple H. At the same time I nearly plowed over some groupies that were so fired up to get his autograph, they were running across the street without even looking.

I never had a random encounter. But I met the Rock once at a signing here in Waco and way back, when Macho Man and Dusty Rhodes were feuding (Saphire and Sheri days) I met them after a match. That's when I found out wrestling was "staged" I had to be 11 or 12. My dad new the guy who ran the place and after the match he took me backstage and ther was Dusty and Savage in the same room after they just fought I was like WTF? Savage just had a bandana around his waist and I shook both of their hands and he said something that was about it. Sheri was in the hallway when I went up there.

Thing is, the year before Hogan had came down and hd wrestled Earthquake, but my dad couldn't find the gentleman he knew. So I had no luck of meeting my idol at the time.

I'm pretty sure I saw Mosh & Thrasher in a Denny's in Ocean City, MD. This was probably about 5-8 years ago and I didn't approach them.

I remember the time when RVD and the Big Bossman wrestled at our high school for some independent company.(this was long before RVD became anything and Bossman had just left the WWF). They came in to use the weight room during my weightlifting class.

In a funny story, some guy named Billy Black(who was the champion of the promotion) left his title belt in the gym after his match and me and my buddies we picked it up and hauled *** with it.
