He was supposedly having problems so I'm not really suprised he was cut. But the timing seems strange, like something happened that just made people say "enough".

well they did just test Smackdown/ECW roster recently, and Joey has failed before... plus the whole thing about the SI.com article... SOOOO......

Pure speculation, but you get the idea.

Didnt they just do a drug test at the smackdown tapings last tuesday? Maybe that is the reason Mercury got fired because possibly he failed the drug test.

Probably not legit, but I took this over from prowrestlingforums....

"Word is that Joey Mercury showed up late at a recent house show. When asked why he was late, Mercury appeared to be incoherent and rambling. He then proceeded to wander into the lockerroom, where an unnamed WWE official found him sleeping in his own vomit and feces. Joey Mercury was immediately fired and removed from the building. Johnny Nitro was said to be disgusted and very upset at his partner's actions and has repeatedly tried to distance himself from the whole incident. Another Smackdown superstar who was said to be with Mercury that day did not show up at all for the house show and is expected to be fired at this week's Smackdown tapings. While it is not yet certain who this person is, Shawn 'Khosrow' Daivari's name has been whispered by a number of backstage officials."
