Re: The OS WWE Spoilers Thread
Not really true. For the European title? Yes, definitely true. IC though? Jericho, Angle, Jarrett, Val Venis, Godfather etc. Were feuding for the title and of course the Tag division was thriving.Comment

Re: The OS WWE Spoilers Thread
I would say as someone who viewed the attitude era that this is inaccurate. Obviously the main event scene was pushed heavily, but there aren't many instances of the Intercontinental champion basically being told we got nothing for and left to rot. The tag team divisions and the midcard in general flurished pretty well in the attitude era. Everybody had something to do and there was some kind of legit storyline to their feud as opposed to now.
They didn't have to deal with 2 "World Champions" in the Attitude Era.
Nobody, outside of the Rock, held the IC title long enough to do anything with it.
Spoiler
The midcard was trash. The 'storylines' were trash. The only thing the Attitude Era has over the current area (not including 'superstar name value' which is a discussion for another time) is tag teams. Well, factions really, so we'll just call them "groups of wrestlers" for the sake of this discussion. DX, The NoD, The Brood, bWo, RTC, Kai En Tai and the list goes on and on.
Let's not act like 5-minute matches in a choppy choppy pee pee "storyline" is even close to being better what we have today. Titles changed hands, yes, but that doesn't mean there was any rhyme or reason to it.
Let's compare midcards, for fun. I'll take 1998 compared to today.

My point was that they don't do anything to try to make you care about these titles now. There are points where I literally have to go check on the website to see who's the IC or US champion. At the time during the AE and even before then (I don't even know why we're focusing on the AE, I never said AE in the first place) there were at least guys legit feuding for the title. Something that a wikipedia screen shot of title reigns isn't going to show. As we pointed out in one of the Raw threads. Big E got pinned and they didn't even acknowledge that the IC champion being pinned. Something that wouldn't have happened in the past.Comment

Re: The OS WWE Spoilers Thread
I do agree that the midcard title picture sucks nowadays, but even on the commentating point (about not mentioning IC Champ getting pinned) that's just on the fact that the announcing sucks and they don't treat their jobs like legitimate commentators. Thank creative/higher ups for that (Cole wasn't near as terrible back then as he is now for many reasons.)
Though, I do think that you think the Attitude Era went on for longer than it really did. 97-00 is what I'd consider the AE. '00 was somewhat of a transition phase (not fully AE, not fully RA), and it was completely over by '01.badComment

Re: The OS WWE Spoilers Thread
To be fair to the commentators though, they've got Vince in their ears for pretty much the entire show telling them what to say and being anal about everything. Like the elimination of the phrase "title belt" among other things.
I think it's generally considered that the AE was from Stone Cold's King of the Ring speech until the end of the Monday Night Wars in 2001. 2000 was definitely still the AE though. Godfather was still running around, the hardcore title was still a thing. Granted there were things that weren't as over the top as '98 featured, but 2000 was still the AE I think.Comment

Re: The OS WWE Spoilers Thread
I brought up the attitude era because it's an era that's viewed as popular. There was a time period after Rock/HHH evolved and Shamrock left that your IC feuds featured D'Lo, a ripe Edge, JJ, Val Venus and Chyna . Your European feuds consisted of Shane McMahon, Mideon, Blackman, and Regal.
This suckage of the mid card isn't exclusive to this period, it was there in one of the most famous (or infamous) eras in wrestling. Outside of huge names and factions, there was nothing there.

And say what you want to about The Godfather, Val Venis, and Jeff Jarrett...but they were RIDICULOUSLY over at the time. And because of their overness, outlandishness, and straight up entertainment factor; they added another dimension to the title. It wasn't necessarily a stepping stone title anymore rather than a validator on stars in the mid-card who got pops only reserved for superstars."Maybe I can't win. But to beat me, he's going to have to kill me. And to kill me, he's gonna have to have the heart to stand in front of me. And to do that, he's got to be willing to die himself. I don't know if he's ready to do that."Comment

Re: The OS WWE Spoilers Thread
Defending the title at Live Events shouldn't count towards the 30 day thing.
