    Smackdown 7/6/07 Afterthoughts

Tonights Smackdown was pretty good and the show is slowly getting back to form after being plucked cleanly during the draft.

MVP is really starting to grow on me and I see him becoming a future World Champion. I think that having a program with Chris Benoit for a few months helped MVP out quite a bit. Hopefully they fix his tattoo problem so he could get a better outfit.....does anyone know how large the tattoo is of Malcom X that he has? Only thing I don't understand is why does MVP lose to Kane the week before and now Hardy tonight?

Matt Hardy is being given another chance here imo as were seeing more of him in singles competition. I hope he moves to the main event scene on Smackdown by the end of the year.

Chris Masters vs. Wang...........I could really have done without. I think that Wang needs to be allowed to go back to his Asian gangster gimmick. This Asian Cowboy is just stupid. Is it me or does Masters look like he has taken enough roids to for the whole locker room to use within a year?

Speaking of tag teams..........Jessie and Festus......these guys look like a bunch of goofballs. LOL!

The Major Brothers seem to be a failry descent tag team, I can't wait to see more from them.

The Great Khali is starting to get on my nerves again..............I think its time for a release. I think that Khali has done everything possible for a man his size that can't wrestle out of a paper box.

Flair vs. Finlay was a good match for 2 guys way past their good days in wrestling.

Chuck Palumbo vs. Kenny Dykstra.............holy crap! A Chuck Palumbo sighting. Kenny Dykstra all of a sudden is lost in the schuffle as when he was part of the Spirit Squad he was in main events and a leader of a faction. Palumbo appears to have improved his skills since coming back from Japan.....but why do they keep on saying that this is his SD! debut since he wrestled on this brand years ago. Michael Cole and WWE you idiots.

Deuce vs. Eugene. Must I ask why?

Must I ask why PART 2? Great Khali vs. Batista..........this is one trainwreck waiting to happen.

Must I ask why PART 3? Kane vs. Edge at GAB. I'm a fan of Kane's and Edge's, but it just feels weird to see Kane vs. Edge from out of nowhere.

Yeah I know all that but, I don't get why he covers it up. Is he ashamed of it or is it a WWE decision. I've seen pictures of it and it isn't that big.

Not too sure, maybe the WWE doesn't want it on TV.

Ok almost all of that is kayfabe... The tat isn't the reason he was given the outfits... think back after he was burned by Kane... he didn't wear a top and you could clearly see the tat and WWE never did a thing to blur it out. Truth is, when he first started out, he had a gut, and he was given the top to hide it... now that he's cut it out, they're looking for ways to change the costume... the tat rumor turned out to be just that... a rumor.

How can you say Smackdown is slowly getting back to form if this is the second real show after the draft? You make it sound like the draft was months ago and they have sucked.

I have the strangest gut feeling Edge is going to lose to Kane. Man I just feel it. It should be an alright match and I'd love to see Kane with one title run before he hangs up the boots. On the other hand, Edge is the perfect heel champ, except for the ruthless destroyer heel champ type (think HHH).

I guess I meant that after 2 weeks, you can almost clearly see the guys that they are pushing and who is a part of the mid-card. I think that many of us at first thought SD! could be in some trouble after that draft, but they have done a good job these short few weeks in defining a semi-structure.

To me, it does feel like they are very slowly getting back to form if they continue to work with the talent that they are giving us an indication that they want to push. With rumors of USA wanting The Undertaker and one more SD! star on RAW, they are filling some of the holes nicely.

I don't give a nut, but I don't know if that's classified as 'dirt' on not.

I think D & D need to drop the straps soon but to who? I just hope after they lose that they are still a team, I love them and Cherry.

Its unfortunate to say that with all the injuries and the draft, they need guys like Eugene to be on the show nightly as filler matches I would much rather he not be on my TV.

The CW division NEEDS to be given the full go-ahead by Vince and they need to stop being restricted. That would boost this show hugely.

Check out my Smackdown thoughts in the GAB thread though to see what I think they are going to do.

                    Re: Smackdown 7/6/07 Afterthoughts

I enjoyed SD again this week.

MVP-Matt Hardy was a good match. These are two of my favorite wrestlers in the E right now so I had really high expectations for the match that weren't really met, but nonetheless it was a good TV match.

Hardy continues to just reel them off. He's had great TV matches against Kennedy, MVP, Finlay, and Cade over the last couple months. He's on a really nice winning streak and with how they're starting to really push his finisher as a move he can hit out of nowhere, I expect a singles push for him soon. I'm guessing that this win over MVP will start a US Title feud for him...hopefully by this time next year he's a part of the SD main event scene...although I have a feeling Hayes is just using him to replace Benoit on SD as the midcard guy who he can throw in a 20 minute match every week to kill time and not be disappointed.

I like Masters push, but I wish they didn't have him go over on Yang. Yang should be the CW champ by now, I have a feeling this is the beginning of the end of his push. Too bad.

Speaking of the CW Title, I was really disappointed that their wasn't a CW match this week. They were on a role as of late about having at least one CW match a week. I don't think they even need to lift restrictions on the CWs, guys like Chavo and Noble can get it done without SSPs and 450s...they just need time to work.

As for Khali, I liked how they used him tonight. He destroyed people until he got what he wanted which was cool. I like his mouthpiece too, about time the WWE using some managers. Although I don't see how Batista-Khali will be anything better than horrible. Batista's offense is built around power, which he won't be able to use against Khali. That'll be an ugly one.

I like Jessie and Festus...reminds me of the guys from Of Mice & Men lol(I think that was the book)

The Majors really impressed me tonight. They looked better in this squash than they did in any of their matches during their very short stint on SD. They remind me alot of Edge & Christian, I'm hoping they eventually take the titles off of DnD.

I liked seeing Palumbo back...he looked good in his TV return. Too bad he had to go over on Kenny though. I didn't understand that much.

I really enjoyed the Cutting Edge. Edge had me laughing how he tried to weasel his way out of there...this will be a nice filler feud. I have a feeling Flair will be challenging for the title at Summerslam...assuming Edge retains.

Speaking of Flair...I almost forgot about his match. Finlay did a really good job carrying the match. I really like that he's using the Indian Deathlock...err...Celtic Knot as his finisher. As for Flair, this match just further proved he really needs to hang it up. He can't be all that much older than Finlay, yet Finlay looked soooooo much better in the ring. I've seen enough "chop, chop, chop, back drop, chop, getting my *** handed to me for ten minutes, chop, chop, chop, chop block, chop block, figure four" matches for a lifetime. It's always the same formula and it just bores me. I understand he's done a ton for the sport and gets huge pops, but enough is enough.

Overall, solid show. SD definitely has turned in better outings...but it's a transition show for them as they finally try to freshen up the feuds. Hopefully the CW division is remembered for next week

I'd rather watch Flair right now over Cena anyday. As far as I'm concerned, Flair can wrestle until he is 90 years old and I'll enjoy it. As good as he was back in his prime, which by the way he was THE best ever, that more than makes up for it now. I'll watch his matches now just out of respect for how damn good he was for so long.......watching old Ric Flair is the very definition of what wrestling should be...man I wish we had more actual wrestlers..........too bad we just lost one of them, especially given the circumstances.
