Turning point for an icon in wrestling...

Being the big Sting mark that I am, I was watching through a lot of the old matches on youtube, and came across wargames... I still remember it like it was yesterday.

What a great match... this is what wrestling is missing now. Man, it's videos like this that really make me miss WCW

So disappointed that the only time I ever got to see War Games in person, it was in 1998 and easily the worst one they ever had. Here's the video evidence, emanating from the Lawrence Joel Coliseum in Winston-Salem, NC...

BTW, I'm embarrassed to say this...but I still have the O.W.N. (One Warrior Nation) t-shirt I bought at this event.

God how I loved WCW, the thing I loved the most was how the crowd was so into every punch, kick and slam. The announcers were hype, Bobby "the brain" was funny as sh!t and it just drew you in so much more. The big matches actually felt like big matches with great importance.
The only time I felt that way about a WWE match recently was Wrestlemania 18 when Hogan faced the Rock, I thought the crowd was really into that and very much on Hogans side.

I miss WCW only because of the differences between the two. One wasn't so much better than the other, they were just different. And as long as WCW was around, WWF/E had to try harder. TNA is in no way competition to the WWE, it's really hurting the sport.

Ah WCW. I'm not going to say it was better because Lord knows they botched some great opportunities but it was a Different product then WWF/E. The thing I miss most about WCW is that when they wanted to they gave off the impression that it had tradition and it took the product seriously enough to call it a pseudo sport.

It doesn't hurt when their title has lineage all the way back to Karl Gotch. The wrestling was hm more rugged and there was more variety to the fighting styles. I especially loved how Bischoff brought in the luchas and Japanese wrestlers. That gave the product a much needed boost. Bischoff also gave the cruiserweights some prominence as well.

The only things I didn't like about WCW was that Tony Schiavone was too much of a shiller for the product. Everything was "the biggest night in wrestling!" or "We're the number one show on TV!" tho I understand the latter was at the insistence of Bischoff. The other thing I have to complain about is that WCW at times tried too hard to copy WWF when really they had a unique product that stood out from what Vince was giving us week after week.

There's so many things going on there that I feel today's wrestling (mainly WWE) just doesn't get.
Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.

Towards the end of WCW they really tried to mimmick WWF, which wasn't very good. But before that, it was great. I realize I was only a kid then, but there was some kind of emotional attachment to WCW wrestling that really wasn't there with WWF wrestling. Even watching these old war games, you could feel the emotion in the crowd. It's just not something you see in rasslin' anymore.

You know what the Sting/Hogan match tells me?

The WWE needs a stable to hate. The emotion that was in the match because the nWo had been built up to the point that everyone hated them, the ring filling up after the match...that is the emotion wrestling needs again.

The problem with that is that Vince or the wrestlers themselves start off being hated then at some point they become "cool". WWE has never had a truly heel stable in its modern history. They're either tweeners, cool heels, or they're so far in the midcard that no one really cares too much.

I guess the last truly heelish stable they've had was the Nation of Domination.

                          That is very true.

Honestly, the WWE just needs a true heel.

Really, there is absolutely no one on the roster right now that I'd consider a true heel because Orton gets cheered just as much as some faces.

They just need appealing stables period

Their most recent attempts have been laughable i.e. the Spirit Squad (I couldn't name more than two guys in there and they were terrible wrestlers except Dykstra).

I didn't even watch WCW until Hogan showed up there. I loved the nWo and how much emotion they got out of the crowd. I'll never forget seeing rolls upon rolls of toilet paper getting tossed into the ring with soda and whatnot at Nitro whenever the nWo showed up.

Stables are good for wrestling, particularly when the rosters are so huge and diluted. They could really help some of the guys with inferior mic skills (i.e. Shelton Benjamin) progress.

Also, like others said, the E and WCW were so different. I never felt like I was watching the same show.
