    Random WCW Discussion?

Here we go Mass, a place to resume our Bischoff/WCW talk.

In the RAW thread, you mentioned the Invasion angle if booked by Bischoff. One thing is that if Bisch bought WCW, no Invasion angle would have ever occured.

But if he was booking it, I doubt WCW would have been made to look bad. I'm still in disbelief that Vince never used the WCW name for Smackdown. RAW would have been WWF/E and Smackdown would have been WCW. Then a few years later he would have ECW come along like it did.

Yeah, I never liked the fact they turned Austin. Sure he had some WCW history, but that could have been their early chance to make Chris Jericho a big time star. He came to save the WWF and they could have gone the route to leave as a mole to come back and lead a WCW overthrow of the WWF. From there the brandsplit could have occurred and as you said Smackdown could have just become WCW. They could have let other wrestlers make changes on rosters. This is where Shane could have started to make his own mark and gone his own way. Similarly a rebirth of ECW would have worked better because ECW was still fresh.

One thing that really wrecked the invasion imo had to do with all of the McMahons having a part in it all as they each owned a stake. It turned more into a McMahon war than anything else.

Which had already been played out at that point from WM20 (maybe 19) when Mankind, Rock, Big Show, and HHH all had a McMahon in their corner. I think the idea of Shane stealing WCW from Vince was great, but it just failed from there.

They already had Heyman as an announcer, they should have simply aligned him with Shane to bring ECW into the mix. Bringing Stephanie in was where they began to fail, especially when she "owned" ECW. I must say there is nothing more Extreme than a 25 year old woman owning and running ECW. Seriously, who made that decision, especially when Heyman immediately aligned with them as it was. Just cut out the middle man.

          It was Wrestlemania 2000.

The Invasion angle was absolutely terrible. In the Alliance/WWF SS match, the final two guys were the Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin. I don't even remember the WCW/ECW guys in that match. That's how bad it was.

Jericho defeated triple H in the spring of 2000 for the wwe title but it was never official. He beat the rock for the "wcw title" in october of 01 at the no mercy ppv using a steel chair but rock won it back at few weeks later with a small package. After survivor series both belts were held up and jericho beat the rock and steve austin in one night to become undispited champion until wm 18 where he lost the title to Triple H who dropped it to Terry Boleau the next month.

Guys, if Bischoff had bought WCW there was no way he'd work with McMahon anyways. Bischoff and his backers were hoping Turner would allow them to continue the programming on the Turner Networks and I believe the base of operations was going to move to Vegas.

As for the idea of Bischoff booking the Invasion storyline...well no matter who was booking it it was going to be a clusterfck anyways. Vince would NEVER EVER give WCW any credit in anything.

I truly think that if that Buff Bagwell vs um I forget, Booker T? match that was on RAW where they got booed out of the building had gone down better then WCW would've gotten a fighting chance in terms of being treated with respect. I guess McMahon felt he could do anything to the WCW brand after that horrible performance as quickly afterword any shot at a real distinction between WWE and WCW was killed.

                  Bingo.

Although Turner had no more say really in how things went as the new executives didn't want anything to do with wrestling.

And as Bischoff said, without the TNT time slot WCW was worth $20 or so.

It was Phoenix and you're right.

BUT, with that many egos and that much money involved, it just ain't gonna work in the end no matter what. And not only that, but like the old saying goes, "To the victor goes the spoils". This wasn't the first time something like this happend and it won't be last.

Didn't DDP and Scott Steiner get into a real life fight backstage over steiner calling him trailer park trash in one of his promos?

                        Anyone remember anything like that?

                          I remember that.

Apparently barely escaped alive, and was said to have been super freaked out.

Also it was said that DDP was lucky that Steiner was seen early that night cutting his nails.

He didn't call him trailer trash. The whole thing came about when Steiner cut one of his unscripted promos and it had the line and I quote "Diamond Dallas Page should get a sex change operation, maybe then he'd have the balls to come out and face me." From what I've heard and read, the moment he said this, the entire locker room turned around and looked at Page. To top it all off, this whole confrontation happened in the same building where months earlier Steiner got into a heated argument with Page's wife, which almost became physical. That incident caused Page's wife to leave the company.

Yeah that's true. But if you don't make one side look like they have a chance, nobody is gonna want to see it. A couple of the WCW guys(Booker and Page since they were the biggest names to come over) should have been made out to look unbeatable or at least they should have let them run roughshod over the lesser WWE stars.
