Any fans coming back b/c of the contest?

Just curious if McMahon's Million Dollar Giveaway is indeed bringing back any fans that no longer watch the current product.

I am willing to give WWE another chance. I stopped watching all wrestling last year after the whole Benoit situation went down. That just drained all of my passion for the business. Recently, though, I've been slowly getting back to watching old tapes/DVD's, and that has helped re-ignite my interest.

So, I'm now ready to give the current product another look.

Guys that have been watching, which show has been better as of late, RAW or Smackdown!?

Any new guys getting a good push?

Both have been rather blah lately and are in need of a shake-up, hopefully forthcoming with the draft. IMO, Smackdown had been doing a better job in terms of overall quality prior to last years draft and shortly thereafter, but seems to have lost its way somewhat. SD used to focus more on good matches and sensible storylines as opposed to Raw's hype and big event feel. It's still probably better in regards to the amount of actual 'wrestling' you'll see, but has focused on the Vickie/Edge storyline heavily in past months.

SD has had fewer big names, but seemed to have a handle on how to have something other than the world title mean something and receive attention. Unfortunately, they lost JBL as a commentator (he was great & truly boosted the entertainment value) and Kennedy was shipped to Raw where he lost a lot of steam. MVP had a good run with the US belt and a great program with Matt Hardy that was derailed due to Matt's injury. Other decisions (Finlay a face, why?) and injuries (Mysterio, Helms, Taker keeps a lighter schedule) have also hurt the show.

Raw is what is at this point. The main events can generate some good moments, but the show is rarely good from beginning to end and leaves you wanting more. Raw has been hampered by injuries (HHH a while ago, Cena, Orton now) and suspensions (Kennedy, Jeff Hardy, Regal) which have trashed some rather big storylines/pushes. The must frustrating aspect of Raw for me is the total lack of mid-card quality. The IC title practically means nothing and the tag belts are a joke at this point. They'd probably be best served by combining the two tag championships as others have suggested.

And of course there is "ECW", which is in no way deserving of that moniker, but actually has put on some good matches in recent months. Kofi Kingston and Shelton Benjamin have had their moments together, but are also noticeably sloppy at times. Miz and Morrison have really improved, as has CM Punk. I know a lot of people were big on him from his Indy work (not an Indy follower nowadays), but his in-ring work has adapted to the WWE style, for better or worse I'm not qualified to say. Kane is plugging away as the champ, but it looks like they're going down the Big Show as ECW top dog avenue again.

Bottom line is that if you're looking to add a few hours per week of TV viewing, you're better off with the WWE than watching The Closer, Saving Grace or all those Law & Orders you've already seen. Make sure you find a place to watch the PPVs (a local Hooters should do the trick), as they aren't worth the full price, but they almost always deliver a few good matches. Last Sunday's wasn't a great one by any means, but the 'Taker/Edge main event alone made it worth the trip.

What's the exact deal with the contest? I thought I read somewhere that they show a code at the beginning of Raw and then Vince calls people during the show, and you have to know the code. If that's true then it's completely worthless to those on the west coast who get a delayed Raw....I'd have no chance at winning any money.

The code will also be on wwe.com so those on West Coast can participate.

Gotcha...Thanks. I doubt I'll be watching, I'm in my annual wrestling down time, just too busy to care and I've been fast forwarding through too much of Raw the last times i've even bothered to keep it on the DVR.

I haven't watching wresting since the Rumble; however, I'll watch this Monday.

IMO Raw has been the best show for awhile. Smackdown was great until last year's draft, then it's been in a slow slide, and IMO a downward spiral since Matt Hardy's injury last fall. Taker-Edge has been the only thing really worthwhile.

As for new guys getting a push...it's really not too different from last year other than the young guys on ECW who are getting a push. But those who previously got a big ECW push and then moved to the A & B shows have never really carried it over to longterm success, so I don't even know if being pushed on ECW means anything.

This really has been a great year for the E though. Royal Rumble, No Way Out, Wrestlemania, & One Night Stand were all winners. Backlash wasn't horrible. Raw has been good, ECW has been very entertaining if you like seeing some fresh faces. Smackdown has it's moments. This has probably been my favorite start to the WWE year over the last three years.

Yeah, Raw's been excellent for a bit now. SD used to be the "wrestling show" but Raw's caught up, probably surpassed it just based on who's wrestling. It's like every week we're getting a good-great match for free. Wasn't the case a year ago.

I thought it was better than usual at the start of the year, but since Regal won KOTR, they've been taking more risks with booking. Not that I didn't like the more old school conservative style (because I do), but there's more excitement right now.

Vince McMahon is giving away $1,000,000 in cash prizes. There are like ten different prizes in all, tops being a check for $250,000 straight from Vinnie-Mac himself.

According to his on-screen persona, this may not be a one-shot deal either; he may give away more money on future occasions.

All you gotta do to enter is go to WWE.com, then watch RAW this Monday to get the secret code, which you will need to know if they call you saying you may have won a prize. The secret code will broadcast at the top and bottom of each hour on RAW, and will also be available on WWE.com apparently.

Well that's a great way to get people to watch the shows. I doubt it's applicable to Canadian residents but nonetheless interesting concept indeed.

In my opinion last weeks raw with the million dollar giveaway was one of the worst I've seen.
It felt more like a game show with some wrestling mixed in.
Out of the 2hr program there was around 45 minutes of actual wrestling.

It's probably a good idea to attract new fans, hopefully it doesn't go on too long or people like me will start to tune out.

Yeah, that is what it felt like. Wrestling felt secondary, not because of the time imo, but because Vince was all "after this match!" and it didn't do anything for me. Raw has been great lately, and a Raw with that card and the Jericho/HBK thing should have continued the streak.

It has to end this week. It did nothing for the ratings (3.0!) and really, this was a stupid idea. "We got 1.5 million to sign up"...that's not even half the audience! It's over this week, no doubt in my mind, since it was a huge flop and there's no trend that says it'll recover.
