Sales numbers for TNA's video game are dismal

More Details on TNA's Impact! Video Game Sales

More Details on TNA's Impact! Video Game Sales

    10/17/2008 by Nick Paglino
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that all industry estimates for the new "TNA Impact!" video game is that it underperformed based on expectations. Publicly, TNA will say it was successful. However, those within the industry say they wouldn't be happy with the early estimates of the game selling 100,000 copies in North America and 200,000 worldwide. If those numbers are accurate then it would not be a successful launch of what was hoped to be a franchise product. More accurate numbers aren't expected to be released until the end of the month, but it is not expected to be figured into the top 50 sellers in the U.S.

200,000 units * $50( evened it out for the WII game and PS2)= $10,000,000
So, the game cost around 3 million to make (heard 2.5) and advertisement around another 1-2million. 5,000,000 profit = Dismal... I would take this failure

Before you give yourself a profit, there are royalty rights due to the wrestlers in the game as well as shipping and production costs. Not to mention the money Midway will take as a distributor. So they hardly turned a $5 million profit from this.

2.5 million was stated in an article for the production of the game. I put 3 million which would give 500,000 to shipping and production cost. Which I seem would be quite fair. OK, I just realized that we may be looking at it from different perspectives. I was looking at in a TNA prospective since they were the one's who put up the money for the game to be made.

MassNole is correct, there are tons of other peripheral costs and expenses at play. This game could very well finish in the red. But there's just no way of telling without seeing the accounting and contract papers (which we will never see).

f4wonline.com is reporting that the TNA Impact video game is continuing its trend of poor sales. The game has not produced nearly as many sales as both TNA and Midway Games has initially hoped. Midway Games lost double what they expected during the third quarter. The company projected losses of $34 million, but now expect to lose $64 million in the quarter. Midway hoped the TNA video game would help save the quarter. Midway canceled two licenses, but spared TNA for the time being. It's being said that sales for the TNA "iMPACT!" video game have not been good at all and the feeling is that if sales continue to disappoint during the holiday season, there will be no future TNA video game releases from Midway. Midway Games is currently struggling as a company, and the fear is that even if the Impact video game sales increase during the holiday season, the company may still go out of business leaving no possibility for another TNA game to be produced. PCMag.com posted an article with a headline reading "Midway Games Fighting for Its Life," which you can read at the following link.

I guess TNA is not only a career killer for wrestlers but a company killer for Midway.

So, how is the Truth and Jeff Hardy doing these day's since there career is dead? Which neither one could get over in a company that is considered a "Career Killer".

i actually still have the game havent played it in over a month though. i seen they released 2 downloadable wrestlers only to pull them because they really screwed them up. I really hope they make another game beause i think they have a nice base to work from, they just need to add more wrestler specific moves and more matches

thats how i feel too. they have something but they need to fix the flaws and have the wrestlers match their styles. bubba ray pulling a hurricanrana just floored me and that is why i gave up the game and took it back
