Match of the First Two Months Of '09 Aired A Few Hours Ago...Was Anyone Watching?

Seriously. I just got done watching ECW. Jack Swagger vs. Christian was completely off the hook.

Great back and forth match. No botches to speak of. Swagger looked like a friggin' ring general already. Christian's selling was amazing. The crowd was hot(or was it? Maybe it was piped noise, regardless, it added to the match). Matt Striker and Todd Grisham are great at making ECW matches seem so important(never thought I'd see the day where I'm praising Grish). The match had a big match feel, and the two guys put on a perfect performance. If this match happened on a PPV with a major title on the line, people would have been screaming five-stars and MOTY. Maybe the mark in me is caught up in the moment, but it was just that awesome.

I love the way they've booked Swagger over the last couple months. Everyone can see the potential this guy has in the ring. Dare I say, Kurt Angle-potential. But he's still green, so what have they done? They've booked him against Matt Hardy, Finlay, and now Christian...guys who know how to work a match better than anyone. Tonight you really could see how it's helped Swagger. He looked confident and in control.

And on a sidenote, this is why ECW is so great for the WWE. Guys like Swagger would never have this kind of opportunity to shine on Raw or Smackdown. He's developed so much since his debut. People argue all the time about how WWECW is ruining the ECW legacy. It's not ruining anything. They're two completely different promotions, and both are/were very successful at what they set out to do.

At any rate, really awesome match. I think WWE puts ECW on .com on Wednesdays(if not, dailymotion.com it lol), I'd advise anyone with a spare 25 minutes check this match out. Great stuff.

I agree. I thought this was a great match. Swagger's best match by far. His title win vs. Hardy was pretty good, but his royal rumble match was really sloppy, and I was unimpressed at NWO. But last nights was great. I hope they let him and Christian build up a rivalry all the way to Mania - it'd be hard to steal a show with HBK/Taker possibly on the card and MITB, but the ECW title match wouldn't be pointless like it was last year.

I like the idea of a rematch at Mania, but in all honesty, it probably wouldn't be nearly as good as tonight's match. At Wrestlemania, chances are the ECW title will only get eight minutes or so. Definitely not enough time to put on the type of match they did tonight.

It'd be similar to the MVP-Benoit match from Mania a couple years ago. They had a decent Mania match, but it wasn't given nearly enough time, and didn't come close to being as good as their matches they had on Smackdown.

I'm disappointed that his match with Finlay didn't sound good. Granted, I don't know if their styles mesh well, but I was hoping it'd come out okay. I loved his title win over Hardy. Their rematch at the Rumble wasn't as good, and was a bit sloppy. Tonight was by far his best match yet.

It was very good, but I wouldn't say so-far MOTY good. It was slightly better than the first match with Finlay, but that's really because I like the style better. That Raw EC is my current front runner.

But everything else you typed was right on the money, Tim. ECW was a sort of glorified feeder league anyway.

I finally got around to watching it yesterday after work and it was a very good, maybe even a great match. Both guys gave 100%, they seem to mesh well and kudos for the clean ending. A rematch at WM25 seems to be in the cards, but as usual, JJ is probably right in that it wouldn't get the time it deserves...

It was a fine match but I also think the Raw EC was the best so far. I like how Striker and Grisham do their best to call it like it's not all pre-determined.

You know, I'm not really sure announcers are told who are going to win... I know it would produce a more authentic call if they were just watching like the rest of us.

Striker and Grisham are pretty good. I like ECW now actually, they've got a pretty decent product going.

That Swagger/Christian match was great...Swagger has a perfect character for him, he's a goofy corn-fed Oklahoma guy...I hope beyond belief that the WWE never tries to make him seem "cool", he's just too goofy for that.

It's nice to have Captain Charisma back!

I'm glad the RAW EC is getting the props it deserves. That's definitely the match of the year so far (so far also means "for now").

Christian/Swagger worked a similar match a house show I went to Friday night. They do work well together.
The line must be drawn HERE! This far, no further!
