Why is ECW so extremely tame?

I understand that Vince owns it and wants the brand accessible to younger kids (or so I'm told) but what the hell happened? The announcers are dreadfully boring and don't sell at all, most of the matches and wrestlers are just meh. It feels like I'm watching the D-League or WWF Metal, but without the Raw/Smackdown recaps by Coachman.

They might as well call it WCW.

Re: Why is ECW so extremely tame?

    I don't see what's wrong with ECW. It's basically a show for

a.) guys to debut and make a name for themself with the WWE audience(see Punk, Kofi, Bourne, Kidd, etc)

b.) guys who have potential but are stuck in the midcard to get a test run as a top guy and see how it turns out(see Matt Hardy, Christian, Lashley)

c.) guys to recreate themselves with a new gimmick (John Morrison, Big Daddy V, Snitsky) or

d.) guys who's careers are dwindling down that can work with the future of the company and possibly have a shot to rekindle their careers (see Kane, Chavo, Finlay, Henry).

And honestly, not only has it done a great job at doing those things, but it's been pretty dang entertaining throughout. IMO, it's the most consistant show the WWE has had over the last year. Sure, it's basic booking, but it's solid basic booking...and you're usually guaranteed at least one great match a week(like Kidd vs. Finlay from last night).

And how dare you call Matt Striker boring. He's been awesome behind the desk...although I can tell he's becoming more WWE-ized as the weeks go on. Josh Matthews, on the other hand, well...I just don't get the IWC's love with him. He's quiet, rarely has any emotion in his voice, just sounds disinterested. I dunno.

But yeah, IMO ECW is great for what it is. Last night's ECW was 1000x better than Raw the night before.

I agree on every point. ECW is not supposed to take away from Raw and Smackdown. But, last nights episode was definitely better than Raw.

Re: Why is ECW so extremely tame?

I agree that this past episode was better than Raw, but my thing is that I'm just sad that ECW is in no way extreme or really exciting the way I used to remember it. I really wish they kept some element of the old ECW or name it something different like WCW some other "aggressive" name instead of using ECW because it just doesn't fit.

TimmeH, you just described the role of Velocity and Metal. I just hate that ECW has become the current iteration of those shows.

Complaining about "ECW"? What year is this?

Tim, as usual, nails it...except for Matthews. Sort of, anyway, because he's right but that's the point. Vince wants dweebs with no emotion. At least he isn't corny and forced like Cole. But yeah, the rest of the post is what we've been saying for 3 years already.

Well, they tried being Extreme in the beginning and it just...wasn't good. The Zombie and all the garbage fighting was just not good. I like the formula they have now, except I'd like to see more "Extreme Rules" matches. Maybe one a night or something a long those lines.

I will also maintain that Extreme Big Show was probably the most entertaining character ever. It fit Big Show so well and he was such a good ECW champ...I miss it.

I think it's a decent show, but ECW died when the company went out of business, the show should be named something else, if anything just out of respect for the real ECW.

I can't believe you didn't like the Zombie. I thought he should be a regular character!!!

However, I do agree about the Big Show. IMO, it was the most entertaining that the Big Show had ever been, and IMO, was one of my favorite World Champ reigns I've been alive to witness.

As for the people saying it's not "extreme," no s***. Other than the occasional "Extreme Rules Match", it never has been. Really, it's the C show meant to develop new stars. It's been that way since Lashley won the title two years ago. "Extreme Championship Wrestling" died in 2001, this is just "ECW," and IMO, it's pretty damn entertaining as the third brand.

I agree with the naming of the show because every time i see the so called "ECW WORLD TITLE" I laugh because it means nothing. So Christian goes from holding a title the means something in TNA to ECW wannabe title...

I agree on the name change as well. I kinda laugh every time Tommy Dreamer does his ECW chant, it's like a slap in the face to the original ECW.

What title in TNA did he hold that meant anything?

Only title I recall him holding was the NWA Championship...which hasn't meant anything for how many years now? You guys say the current ECW Championship is a slap in old ECW's face...yet bring up a title that's has gone from being Harley Race's in the 80s to...Blue Demon Jr's today! lol

Thats pretty much vince for you. I wish vince would have not bought WCW from ted turner. The reason vince bought out wcw was because WCW was taking away WE fans. Vince is a rick greedy SOB.

What title in TNA means anything? They screwed it all up after getting the Spike show.

Anyway ECW is a lot better now than it was a while ago.
Part of the original ECW was bringing in new talent. Think Jericho and Mysterio would be where they are now without ECW? That's still there in spirit at least even if they did get rid of the hardcore stuff. I think they canned ONS too.
