Just looking at the names you mentioned for the 80's and 90's, I'm having a hard time trying to put John Cena in the same spot as Mitsuhara Misawa 10 years ago ... a guy that has more 5 star matches just with Kawada or Kobashi alone than virtually anyone else combined on that list (minus maybe Michaels).
I guess I would answer the question trying to keep in mind who was in their absolute prime during this period. To me, Bryan Danielson is one of the best technical wresters in the world. I don't remember watching a bad match, and I've watched well over a hundred, maybe two. And as big as he's gotten in Japan with NOAH, he's still not upper echelon, and you can't really compare Final Battle to Wrestlemania.
One name I would throw out ... Hiroshi Tanahashi. Amazing in ring performer, phenominal matches with Nakamura, Nagata, Goto, Tenzen, Sasake, Mutoh, and even AJ Styles. He's the biggest draw in Japan right now, and has been for several years. And you certainly can't frown on the IWGP title, as Kurt Angle would tell you. Regarding Angle, he'd probably be top of mind if he wasn't being smothered in TNA.
One more name ... Naomichi Marufuji. For my money, this guy is the best wrestler going right now. He just took the AJPW junior title before getting injured, and he did it as a member of the NOAH roster. Early in the decade, his tag matches with KENTA (and later, their 1:1 matches) are phenominal in ring contests. He even became the first junior to capture the GHC Heavyweight title, which shows you how highly regarded he is.
Hiroshi Tanahashi. Naomichi Marufuji. I'll take either one over Triple H or John Cena without any disrespect to the huge main events these guys have headlined. While I'd take Michaels or Angle over all these guys in their prime, I feel like both split their best matches in between the past two decades.
