80s Icons: Hogan vs. Flair
Which 80s Icon whose influernce is currently making an extrordinary impact on the face of wrestling today, Flair or Hogan ? My pick is Flair becuz he has dropped to the comic book "old champion past his prime" character and becoming the Flair that I remember growing up, but a little bit on the saddistic side. His influence is spreading througout the Raw roster.Tags: None -
Re: 80s Icons: Hogan vs. Flair
I would have to say Flair as he created the template for the modern Heel-Babyface dynamic. He'd be loved in South Carolina but hated everywhere else. He was able to tell WHY he had beef with other wrestlers and stuff like that. He was also very good at portraying the cocky arrogant SOB.
Both Flair and Hogan's characters in the 80s were products of the times but I think Hogan's was far more artificial as he had the whole "american made" persona and kept fighting big slow oafs in the ring. (except for Savage and Warrior) Flair on the other hand could wrestle with ANYBODY. he was a fighting champion. Sure he used dirty tricks to get the upper hand but that's what heels generally do.
I like the new approach that Flair has taken now btw.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: 80s Icons: Hogan vs. Flair
There is no arguing they both still generate great pops whether they are liked or not, but in an overall sense now, I think Flair still has the drawing power over Hogan in that he can still wrestle just as well now as he did then. His style has held on for a long *** time and he still gets tons of cheers even as a heel.
I still think Hogan can and is making a difference even now, especially with his new gimmick for however long it lasts.

I've always loved Flair more....he has the bigger impact today even, but over the course of history its tough to argue against Hogan.Comment
