Will there ever be a true 'Career Mode' in SvR?

By this I mean a mode where you start off in the independent circuit, work your way up to a developmental contract in FCW, eventually get called up to the main roster, and basically work your way into being a superstar. It's really unfortunate that THQ hasn't even seemed to sniff at a Career Mode outside of RTWM and making your own way in WWE Universe, but I think a truly deep career mode could be the thing this series needs to reinvigorate it going into the future.

    Thoughts?

That would make SvR an instant purchase for me.

Wow, amazing that's never been done. I think Smackdown2 on the PS1 and the PS2 version w/ Brock Lesnar on the cover had the best career mode and didn't come close to touching that idea.

Plus, they could use the NXT set/challenges etc. I think it would be a homerun.

I also think that you could build rivals as your career progressed, guys who you come through the ranks along with and compete with inside and outside the ring for TV time, endorsements, as well as competing for a spot in the mid card and eventually main event scene with these guys. Similar to the way guys like Orton and Cena and Batista came up together in OVW, and Sheamus and Drew Mcintyre in the UK together. You could have contemporaries who you compete with and are compared to as your career progresses.

THQ could really take a look at what EA seems to be trying w/ Fight Night Champion, and what 2K and Sony already have w/ the career modes in NBA 2K and MLB The Show, and bring something that's really never been done in a wrestling game when you think about it.

Sounds like a fun idea, but let's hope THQ / Yukes fixes all the issues they keep creating before implementing another "new" mode.

Re: Will there ever be a true 'Career Mode' in SvR?

Yeah, I've thought this for a long time. They've had it where you start out on Velocity, or ECW, or whatever the C show is at the time, but not the indy circuit.

I look at it like the UFC 2010 game. They'd make you start out at an "indy" fed, but only make it one. Then you'd get invited up to FCW. All the meanwhile, you'd have to go to the gym, train to learn new moves, etc, etc, and eventually make your way up to Raw or SmackDown, trying to reach the main goals of becoming WWE/World Champion, and main eventing WrestleMania.

I also, have always thought a neat idea for a "career" mode, would be that your booker (obviously Vince McMahon), gives you a list of things to do in each match. But basically that would be a shoot version of the game, which they probably would never do. Still, it would be neat for it not to be as much of a button masher, but instead of game where you try to go out and have an entertaining match, letting the guy beat you up for a little while, and trying to hit key points that Vince wants you to do.

Re: Will there ever be a true 'Career Mode' in SvR?

Its an interesting concept, but unlike other sports games, these WWE games don't have an endless supply of generic superstars to freshen things up. Once you break into the big leagues and perform on Raw or Smackdown, one would assume headlining Wrestlemania and winning the world title would be the threshold of a career mode. In essence, it'd be beaten. I think that would make it more of a story mode. I think the nature of wrestling with the dependence on storylines combined with the inability to have "live" rosters in order to consistently change the pace of a career mode would make it tough to have an thoroughly enjoyable career mode.

The closest to that kind of mode was the Story Mode of WWE Day of Reckoning

I think your ideas are very good and wish we had something like this, but incorporate WWEU with better logistics. It would be neat to start off in FCW until you reach a certain level. You have John Lauranitus contact you that there is a spot on NXT. You run the gambit on NXT, certain goals/challenges are set which helps determining your outcome if you win NXT, are fired, or sent back to FCW for further development. Then the career branches off from here.

-If you win NXT, you get sent to either Smackdown or RAW depending on choices made during your NXT career.
-If you lose NXT and were sent to FCW, when the time is ready to be called up, you either get called up to Superstars or Smackdown and the career progresses from there.

Age would also be associated with your wrestler. As time progresses so does your grappler's age which means that retirement is eminent at some point. You can retire on your own or the engine is smart enough at a certain age your character depending on popularity and how they have been built up to retire.

Championships would be won and defended throughout the career mode. Just because you won any of the world titles doesn't mean its game over or that you got to Mania. You should be able to progress without any limitations unless retirement or an injury occurs. Injuries should also be a part of the engine to the active rosters and your character. I think also having WWEU in this would be good as you can control certain aspects of the rosters, champions, etc as you go along.
