What is the best text PC Wrestling game?
The only two that I know of are TEW and EWR. So which do you prefer and why? I'm curious as I am looking to pick up a text based wrestling game soon to kill some time.Too Old To Game Club

Re: What is the best text PC Wrestling game?
Someone with more knowledge can correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that TEW is the successor to EWR. Assuming that's true, TEW is an updated version. I've played a few TEWs but probably not enough to give you a really good summary. I've enjoyed what I've done with it but, like Out Of The Park baseball, there's a TON of things to do and mess with.
Also, depending on what you're looking for, you might look at something else. TEW is really more of a "wrestling tycoon" game than and actual wrestling game. You control the storylines, feuds, and even the match results. You're responsible for setting up most of the financial stuff and signing wrestlers to contracts. Fun stuff if that's what you're into, just closer to a SimCity game than a SvR game.
If you're looking for something that is more wrestler-based instead of business based, check out Wrestling Spirit (http://www.greydogsoftware.com/ws2/). It puts you in the role of a wrestler and you have to form alliances, sign contracts, workout, and actually wrestle. Probably closer to SvR if you're looking for that. It's also made by the same company that does TEW and you can download a demo to give it a try.
Hope this helps.PSN: JWGoND -

I've always wanted to try wrestling spirit but never really had the funds to do it.
Maybe I'll try it out soon.
I've played TEW and sometimes I think it's too much and requires too much of my time to really get into it deeply. Which is why I liked EWR so much, it's a much more simplified version of TEW.Too Old To Game Club

Re: What is the best text PC Wrestling game?
Yeah, that's the one thing TEW can do. If you start with the 'E, you've got to book RAW, SmackDown, and Superstars every week, along with multitudes of PPVs...
That's why I generally start off at (and give up before progressing farther than) local level feds. I feel the money game and getting good grades at the bottom is more fun than the global fed.
WreSpi is pretty good, but it's super kayfabe. That's the one thing that got me about the two games. TEW, you're calling all of the shots in a realistic wrestling universe. WreSpi is fighting in the kayfabe world. It's kind of odd, in that way.Rose City 'Til I Die

Do the games have real roster files that are out there, and pretty updated? So if I get TEW, I could get a pretty recent WWE file?Comment

It's amazing how many mods TEW has.
I don't think WreSpi has the same level of mods, although I seem to remember Death of the Territories being very highly regarded as a game world.Rose City 'Til I Die

Re: What is the best text PC Wrestling game?
You can hit the forums at those different web sites and download updated "data" files that will give you current rosters.
My only problem with those text games, is that the majority of those are where YOU decide the outcome. I want more of a "booker" feel. I create the matches, and the CPU plays it out for me based on stats / attributes. Some like the feel of deciding the entire card from a "business" perspective, but to me, where's the imagination or excitement of not knowing who will win the title?Comment

I'm pretty sure he means a program like TEW and EWR. He did mention those two on the first post.Rose City 'Til I Die

Re: What is the best text PC Wrestling game?
I play TEW2010 all the time. I'm running the No Holds Barred 1989 mod right now as the WWF. It's a lot of fun to try and build up (or keep built up) your promotion. I might do a parallel one as NWA as well, because I really want to use Ric Flair and have some kickass matches.
I have other mods on my game, such as the War Begins set in 1995, Montreal Aftermath set in 1997 and a current world data game.
I'm loving the 1989 mod, because I basically get to re-write the mainstream wrestling story. Ted DiBiase will become champion, Hogan, Savage, etc may not go to the WCW and the Monday Night Wars may never happen. Then again who knows, something totally new and awesome could be born instead.NFL: Green Bay Packers
