Re: Over the Limit 5/22/11
yeah it did, but remember Hogan had been the biggest face of all time for 20+ years. Cena doesn't compare to that in anyway other than the style of character they're modeling him after. They can't turn Cena heel because the entire company is heel's at the moment. There would be no one to take his place as top Face.Comment

Re: Over the Limit 5/22/11
i agree. i hate that certain faces get beat down and beat down, then all they get to do is one or 2 good shots and win. i wanna see a face deconstruct someone just for revenge, ala HHH.Comment

Re: Over the Limit 5/22/11
Christian vs Orton was brilliant. Even though I was 90% that Orton would win, this match had me engaged like none other for probably a year or so. When Christian faked to evade the RKO and then hit the Springboard Sunset Flip I honestly thought he was going to get the pin.
The pacing was perfect, the movesets were varied, such as the Inverted Boston Crab from Orton, and Christian hitting a Spinebuster (neither of which I have seen before from the wrestler in question).
In addition, I have to mention some excellent commentary from Booker T and Josh Mathews. Booker seems so much more comfortable when Cole isn't there, and they really broke down the contest well.
Cara v Chavo was good if a little one-sided, and the finish was botched (looked like it was intended to be La Mistica). Lawler vs Cole was actually pretty fun, however this probably should have happened at WM. Rey vs Truth was decent, and also the the Tag Match was very enjoyable.
HOWEVER...
The finish of the main event was so unsatisfying. Cena was basically beaten within what should have been an inch of his life, and he basically no-sold it and beat Miz with ONE MOVE. I'm sorry, but it was basically a more drawn-out version of the Orton match from '09.
Miz took a tiny bit of punishment (compared to Cena anyway). I would have bought it if Cena had hit him with 3 AA's in a row or something, but COME ON!
I like Cena, and I think his work is getting better, however his pacing is still all over the place. He sells every move like he's been hit by Big Show's right hand, and then when it's his time to get offense in, it's like nothing has happened to him.
Cena winning is not the problem, it's HOW HE WON. At least make the ending believable and interesting. The PPV was shown for free here in the UK, and even I felt cheated out of the ending.
I hope that Christian-Orton makes it onto the 10-11 PPV matches DVD if they are doing oneSupporting Leeds United, Colorado Rockies, Detroit Lions and the Colorado Avalanche!

The Cena/Nexus business (at least at the end of the feud) is really what made Nexus lose credibility, because one guys constantly getting the better of a group of 4-8 people makes no sense.Supporting Leeds United, Colorado Rockies, Detroit Lions and the Colorado Avalanche!

Re: Over the Limit 5/22/11
Cena constantly got the better of Nexus? Wasn't he forced to be Barrett's b...h for a while there? If anything Cena put Nexus over from the first night on. It's one thing to hate on Cena, but at least bring facts to the table.Comment

Re: Over the Limit 5/22/11
Summerslam appears to be the first actual match. 1-0 Cena.
Cena beat Darren Young on the ensuing Raw. 2-0 Cena.
2 weeks later Nexus wins an elimination match against Cena's team. 2-1 Cena.
Next week Cena beats Gabriel. 3-1 Cena.
Night of Champions 6 way had no barring on this as Barrett was eliminated by Orton.
Next night Cena beats the entire Nexus other than Barrett in a gauntlet match. 4-1 Cena or 6-1 depending how you look at it.
Barrett wins at HIAC 4-2/6-2 Cena.
Cena randomly destroys Tarver after joining Nexus. 5-2/7-2 Cena.
Cena & Orton beat Harris & McGillicutty 6-2/8-2 Cena.
This next bunch doesn't count for anything either way...
Cena & Otunga win the tag titles. Cena AA's Otunga.
Cena has Barrett win against Orton via DQ.
Cena forced to lay down so Slater & Gabriel win tag titles.
Cena fails to do his ref job costing Barrett and Otunga a match. 7-2/9-2 Cena.
Cena beat Otunga. 8-2/10-2 Cena.
Cena screws over Barrett at Survivor Series. 9-2/11-2 Cena.
Cena screws over Barrett on Raw during the rematch. 10-2/12-2 Cena.
Cena attacks McGillicutty backstage, distracts Nexus during match, takes out Slater. 11-2/13-2 Cena.
Cena attacks Otunga in the hotel, later costing Gabriel and Slater the tag titles and later attacking Barrett after Nexus walks out. 12-2/14-2 Cena.
Wade rehires Cena and he gets a beatdown. 12-3/14-3 Cena.
Cena squashes Otunga on SD that same week. 13-3/16-3 Cena.
Team Cena wins at Tribute to the Troops. 14-3/17-3 Cena.
Cena literally buries Barrett at TLC. 15-3/18-3 Cena.

Cena getting destroyed by Nexus made 5 guys who were headed for nothing (not counting Barrett since he'd won NXT) actually worth something. He made those guys relevant in that one night alone. So it seems kinda weird to say he made them lose credibility, when the Cena beatdown (and subsequent beatdowns) was the thing that gave them credibility in the first place.
Also to ignore the fact that Cena had to be Barrett's gopher boy, literally lie down for them at times (rememeber this is the same guy who's slogan is "Never Give Up"...yet for Barrett, he gave up). I don't see how anyone can say Cena didn't totally make Nexus and pretty much gave their run last summer relevant.
In short - Cena put Nexus over.Comment

Eh, I'd attribute that more to Sheffield/Tarver getting hurt and excommunicating Barrett from the group.Comment

Re: Over the Limit 5/22/11
I don't think the problem is that Cena wins a lot. He's the top face he's supposed to win a lot. The problem is his no selling. The reason I never had a problem with Hogan going nuts was because there was an act that went with it. That "reaching down for a little something extra" as the great Gorilla Monsoon would say. With Cena it just comes out of no where. So as your watching the match instead of going oh here it comes, it just looks like Cena randomly decided to stop selling moves. It makes no sense and just looks bad in the ring. An even bigger problem is his no selling things afterwards. He could have at least come out on monday with some bandages or a limp or something. Or god forbid he gets to take a show off because of a beating.Comment
