Re: Raw 7/18/11 - Won't be under 3.0 this week...
WWE did a good job last night. Though, I really, really, really, really, really wanted a heel turn for Cena last night. But you couldn't really do that AND have punk with the strap so it's cool. He seemed to have some heel swag too. No Solute, signature shirt in the crowd/U can't see me setup was less enthusiastic than normal. Really played up to being the Villain last night.
Can't wait until RAW tonight. Keep the momentum going. I bet Punk is there, but either sits in the front row or in a Suite with a "paid" ticket. Just chillin, showing off the belt with Vince and ADR pissed.Comment

Re: Raw 7/18/11 - Won't be under 3.0 this week...
This is how I would write the aftermath (one of many, many ways to go)...
Cena gets canned tonight and takes time off. The speculation builds for the main event at Wrestlemania. He and the The Rock continue to use social media to build their feud taking shots at each other as Cena rests and recovers.
Meanwhile, Vince comes out with Del Rio and says they are cashing-in his MITB contract for a match at Summerslam. Del Rio can't sneak attack him and win as Punk isn't a part of the company and won't get involved in exhausting matches or beatdowns anytime soon, but Del Rio still has an iron-clad contract that gives him a shot at the title anytime he wishes.
Vince claims that the contract is iron-clad and Punk has thee options: come to Summer Slam and hand Del Rio the title, defend the belt in a match at Summer Slam, or lawyer up and get ready to go to war as Vince will sue Punk if he does not agree to options one or two. Punk teases not defending the belt telling Vince to go screw himself. However, a fired up Del Rio snatches Vince's mic, shoves him and says he has something to say... he goes on to blast Punk for claiming to be the best WRESTLER in the world while hiding with the title. He then says whether this ends in the ring or the courtroom you and I both know I am a better wrestler than you, and you are a coward.
In a huge Raw moment, Punk agrees to the match despite not being a WWE employee (kayfabe) and there's your story (it writes itself from here). Del Rio represents the establishment, Vince's guy, everything a champion should be. Punk is the anti-establishment and a threat to Vince's company. Hell of a main event for your second biggest PPV of the year with the same, "fate of the company hangs in the balance" tagline. All this with Cena getting time off.
Have Punk go over at Summer Slam and two things happen from there. One, Del Rio gets the reputation of the guy who can never win the big one (first to cash in and lose, didn't win at Wresltemania after winning the Rumble, lost a ladder match to Christian), which makes him an even more vicious guy who stops whining about destiny and instead takes it into his own hands annihilating people like when he first debuted.
Second, Punk becomes a one-man NWO. A cool anti-establishment set on destroying the company. Perhaps his one-man gang grows to include guys like Bryan, or a re-signed Colt or Gallows.
The Nexus end up joining Vince's new corporation and flank Del Rio. It makes sense as Otunga has "the look" and is oh so hollywood. While McGillicutty has the pedigree. You can have Vince's crew vs. Punk solo, or Punk's independent scene crew, but either way this story can go long after SummerSlam and revive wrestling not missing a beat all with Cena and Rock waiting in the wings.Last edited by Streets; 07-18-2011, 02:01 PM.Comment

Re: Raw 7/18/11 - Won't be under 3.0 this week...
Not bad, Streets.
I just hope that Punk does indeed stay away for a few months, leaving the WWE Title in limbo ...
After a month goes by, Vince declares the title "vacant", using the old 'a champion must defend his title every 30 days' clause, which would lead to a WWE Title tournament at SummerSlam.
C.M. Punk would return after SummerSlam, claiming to still be the WWE Champion (similar to the old HBK-Razor Ramon storyline) and state that the 30-day rule never applied to him since he wasn't under WWE contract after he won the title and was free to do whatever he wanted.
Man, I could go on and on, but I'll just stop and say that this angle has been great and I hope WWE doesn't mess this up like they did last year when they had a hot angle with the start of Nexus.Currently Playing:

That's the great part about it, they can go in so many different directions with this. I would love to see Punk show up in NJPW with the WWE Championship.Comment

Punk said on his Twitter that he's going to Cubs/Phils tonight, awesome if true.I won't ask for Christmas or birthday gifts if you subscribe to the Operation Sports Newsletter (Not Just Another Roster Update). I love title tournaments (a lot!), but it'll be interesting to see SS sell without Cena or Punk or any real top babyface on Raw (unless Cena isn't fired in your scenario). Also, in my scenario, when Punk finally returns at Summer Slam to defend he does so with either a brand new belt or an old-school belt.
A new belt is a must.Currently Playing:

Haven't watched WWE in a while but have been following the story through their site and these boards. Anyway, I just noticed that Punk is still listed as a member of the Raw roster on wwe.com...wonder if that's part of what they will do tonight or if they're getting sloppy. At least update the site to make someone THINK he's actually gone...PSN: JWGoNDComment

Del Rio has a guaranteed shot, so they could film Vince, Del Rio, a referee and some stooges trying to seek out Punk to beat him for the title in any place they can. Airports, restaurants, Punk's house, other public places and maybe even some indy shows. They could push forward to and through SummerSlam without a WWE title match as long as they have something else big going on to pull in the buys.
Or they could have a tournament, because those are always fun too.
