    Spoilers outside the designated threads

I have a question for the moderators.

Are the spoiler and dirtsheet threads the only place to post that kind of information within the WWE forums?

In an attempt to stay spoiler-free, I NEVER go in those threads (well I did read the first post in the spoiler thread before posting this to make sure I got the rules correct). I understand people like being "in the know" (and this is a smarky forum), but I'm a guy who likes being surprised.

The way I understand it, all that talk needs to stay in those threads, but I want a confirmation.

The problem is, people post spoilers and dirtsheet rumors all the time outside the designated threads, and put them in spoiler tags, which I then click. Before people attack me with, "if you don't want to be spoiled, don't click the button, that's why it's there", I have a response.

The fact is, people rarely use spoiler tags for their intended purpose and more often than not use the function to

    a) say what they think MIGHT happen (blind speculations are not spoilers)

    b) hide the pun of a joke (which I'm fine with)

I like the fantasy booking, speculation, and jokes, so I am not proposing that people only use spoiler tags for their intended purpose, but I am suggesting that people who post spoilers/rumors outside of the designated threads (even if they use the spoiler tag feature) get some kind of reprimanding (warning, infraction, whatever... let the mods decide the repercussions).

I know, Matrix hates this as much as I do, but maybe a "Read me before posting" sticky (so people know the deal ahead of time) and coming down on people who do it would be better than constantly saying, "take that mess out of here, man".

I'm not calling anyone out but this is on the heels of the Lesnar reveal (which sucked for me). I give Milennium a lot of credit as this forum is pretty damn good about this stuff and he's a big reason why, but it could be much better and I think "how to fix this" is a dialogue worth having

Re: Spoilers outside the designated threads

I just always assume the spoilers in the Raw threads are going to be a picture or a pun. And if it's a spoiler I've always felt being do a good enough job of making it look like that's what it is going to be...

I don't like it either, but there is no possible way to NOT be spoiled when something big is going to happen these days. Between Facebook, Twitter, etc. everything is going to get leaked ahead of time at some point.

Tell me about it, people were retweeting spoilers left and right the day off Wrestlemania. It was nice that not a single one came true, although the BIG one happened at RAW and the surprise was kinda ruined.

Like you said though, there is no possible way to not be spoiled these days. Unless you avoid the internet and interaction with people the week leading up to an event.

This is exactly what I did before going to Wrestlemania and Raw this past week. I had no idea Brock was going to be there.

Even if you avoided the internet altogether, if you watched Raw the crowd was chanting, "We want Lesnar!" over and over just before he came out. You were spoiled no matter what.

Sort of. Like everyone else, I've heard the Lesnar rumor going back to last year when he retired from UFC and was put in WWE '12. I however, have stayed off the spoiler threads for the most part because I knew a big return of someone was likely at/after WM. I also stay of Twitter/Facebook during shows as to not be spoiled by fans that are there.

So even though they were chanting "Lesnar" I still could think that it was wishful thinking on the fans part. I mean, there's "We Want Lesnar" signs every week, so I really didn't think much of it...until that music hit. I marked out lol. I guess all I'm saying is there is a way to avoid spoilers, and watching is much more fun when you do IMO.

I strongly agree with keeping spoilers in the designated threads. Even after Raw, there was someone talking about the number of appearances Brock is signed for. That's a big spoiler for me that I'd have liked to avoid.

                I'm semi-with you here.

I'm not a big social networker. I'm kind of old-fashioned in that if I want to contact someone, I'll call (or text). I'm not on Twitter, but I do have a Facebook (but am only really friends with people I'm close with). Still, most my friends aren't wrestling fans and if they are it's not to the extent where they're reading spoilers and posting about it on Facebook. I avoid all wrestling related sites except WWE.com. So really this is the only place I get spoiled (and the only place I heard about Brock or Jericho for that matter).

I think all of that is beside the point though. Just because it's easy for people to get spoiled in this day and age it doesn't mean we should just be cool with it happening here. This is my one place where I go to discuss wrestling online, and if it's possible I'd like to keep it as spoiler free as we can. We have no control over it happening everywhere else, but can do something about it here.

I agree with this. My brother in law is a fan like me (spoiler free) and doesn't post here. When they were chanting "we want Lesnar" he was like, what's going on? Then he was like, do they know something I don't? No way he's coming back. When that music hit he was stunned, and marked the F out when he hit that stage. His reaction was vastly different from mine in terms of shock value even though we both heard the same crowd. He just thought it was the smarky, hot crowd having fun and didn't believe he was there until that music hit and he came out.

Me being on this site, I was 99% sure he was coming out.

My parents watch(yeah well they are still mid 30s or whatever) and they had no idea Brock was returning, but they weren't that shocked just because of the Crowd.

Re: Spoilers outside the designated threads

You are correct, Streets. The spoilers/dirt need to remain in those threads.

You can usually tell whether the spoiler-tagged content is legitimate info or joke stuff. I don't have a problem with using spoiler tags but I prefer that info/discussion still being kept in the designated threads.

And if you are going to do the spoiler tag stuff outside the designated threads, then any response/quoting MUST hide the info entirely. As in, your entire response, if it's spoiler-related, should be in the tag as

Maybe we should go back to putting "No Dirt/Spoilers" or something in the thread title?

I agree with all that (any little bit helps). Sometimes it's a clear joke or clear spoiler. Sometimes you get something vague like

                      Concerning tonight's main event...

                      Spoiler

                      or

                      or

Good point, it's definitely tough. Just gotta be diligent, I guess. I don't click on spoiler buttons unless I know for sure a joke is in there.

I like the idea of putting NO SPOILERS back into the weekly discussion thread titles, just as a reminder. I guarantee you many posters aren't going to read a READ THIS FIRST thread, regardless if it is stickied.
