We can get 20 minutes of awesome but it doesn't mean anything.
Kidd/McGillicutty have less charisma combined than the Rock has in his pinky. You can build guys up all you want, but if they don't have that 'it' factor or a character that people identify with, people won't care. Ex. Shelton Benjamin.

I think what TMagic and jvalverde were saying is, good matches alone won't cut it. You have to have a good character that people can connect to and remember you by.

Agreed. You can't just give Tyson Kidd the Rock's gimmick and have a Rock who can put on 5 Star matches. Doesn't work like that.

Re: What does WWE need to do to be dominant again?

The last couple of posts by TMagic, ubernoob, etc. have really hit the head on the nail and brought some outstanding points.

I feel like the character's are good, but the character development is just so awful.

Someone brought up ADR. To me, he is a perfect example of what's wrong with the WWE. They have put him in championship match after championship match and his heat has only rapidly decreased. Like someone said before, he has devolved into a boring, generic heel. Insulting the crowd, sneak attacks, etc. but besides that there is little else to his character. He hasn't been in a storyline that has given him any depth therefore there was nothing to really make the audience connect to him in a way, good or bad.

Contrast that with Daniel Bryan, who couldn't buy a reaction early on. However, the AJ storyline was a hit and so is this storyline with Kane no matter how silly they were. He became truly diabolical and hated in the first storyline and then somewhat of a lighthearted tweener in the second. It's no coincidence he is probably the most over guy in the company behind Cena and Punk.
"Maybe I can't win. But to beat me, he's going to have to kill me. And to kill me, he's gonna have to have the heart to stand in front of me. And to do that, he's got to be willing to die himself. I don't know if he's ready to do that."

Obviously not The Rock's gimmick but there's still plenty to work with there.

Re: What does WWE need to do to be dominant again?

Everyone has basically touched upon what I'm about to say...but just my point of view.

            1. Obviously, they're just pushing Cena way....too hard to become a Rock type figure, which will NEVER happen, and everyone knows that. So now it gets down to him just making fun of himself to get the crowd to laugh, (Last Raw, "Wait, how many wrestling moves is that for me? 4...5?) It's a tough spot for WWE, basically because he does sell A LOT of merchandise, and the kids love him.

            2. The Undertaker/Kane type role. The one guy, where you hear his music, you just stop...everyone in the ring is scared to death, and if JR would still be calling it, would be an "Oh my God!" type moment. I understand it's PG, but come on....I think kids can take a character like that. The man everyone is afraid of, not talking about Ryback in just a strength category, but a mind games category as well. You could hear undertakers music and lose a match because it had THAT much of an affect on you.

            3. Orton to me is horribly...horribly used. The ADR storyline is holding him back tremendously. I love...his style. The silent...never talks...just comes out, and with his theme music (yes to me the theme music makes a big difference in a character), and the way he acts in the ring before and RKO, like he's losing his mind is absolutely perfect for his character. Yet, he's mainly stuck on Smackdown, a show that I rarely bother to watch other than Randy Orton. I would love to use him as a black and white sting type of guy. Not the mask...or anything like that, but just the silent type.

            4. CM Punk's role should not be changed. However, it gets extremely annoying when half the stadium is chanting his name, and he makes a comment like "You can boo me all you want." They are chanting your name! His storyline is about respect, yet he puts down the fans that even cheer his name, just stupid. Heels don't have to be the guy that EVERYONE hates. Take Rock..Hogan...etc, you loved them even if they were fighting the "Good guys."

            5. As someone mentioned, stables. The threat of a group made people vulnerable. Nexus...Evolution...(WcW - NWO). You don't need 3-4, maybe one..2 at most.

            6. The main...thing for me is bring back the high flyers. I would skip over a punk/Ryback match any day of the week, to watch a Hardy Boyz/Edge and Christian Ladders match. What those guys is real wrestling. Not just using brute force like a Ryback etc.

            7. I know I'm rambling...but it just seems to me submission moves are just being completely thrown out as finishers. The big ones I can think of are Cena's..ADR.. I just miss the times of the Sharpshooter...figure four...Ankle lock...ones where JR and King would be hollering as he tried to put the move in "He's going for it...can he get it locked in!? He's GOT IT! He's in the middle of the ring, there's nothing he can do!" Those kind of moments. I just hate how every finishing move now has to be some knock out.

(Also, a lot of people mentioned tag team popularity rising, which it is slowly, but needs to be a focus of the show more often, even if it isn't for the tag team championship. Just miss the days when belts meant something.)

55, now you know damn well that the only submission finisher we see on a consistent basis that is recognizable as a wrestlers main "finisher" to the majority of fans is the "NO!" Lock, the STF, and Arm Bar.

                Thats it. Lol

In all seriousness, to a lesser scale, commentary. It's crazy watching old matches and hear commentators call the actual match while still having color commentary. I can't get enough of JR and Heel King. That's why I love when JBL and JR are on commentary. This **** now, idk wtf they're talking about half the time.
