Hands on Preview of Showdown, and a few interesting Tidbits

This is taken directly from Game Informer so take it for what it is worth. But here is one particular thing that really stood out of the preview regarding number of players on the screen:

Outside of simply having a mind-boggling array of different wrestlers, Acclaim has really upped the ante for wrestling games with a large number of different game modes. While you still have you standard one-on-one matches and tag team brawls, you’ll also be able to take part in ladder matches, steel cage matches, table matches, Royal Rumbles, 6 or 8 man melees , and my personal favorite, the First Blood matches, where the first wrestler to draw blood on his opponent is deemed the winner.

That will make it pretty interesting for things such as Royal Rumbles, if it is true, to have all of those guys in the ring at once. It will make it more like the Rumbles of the past. So hopefully there is some truth to it.

Another Preview taken from TeamXbox has listed the same information:

"The main menu consists of the standard quick play match that gets you instantly into some action with a random legends match up, but it is the other game modes that show the most additions and changes. Match Play types include Versus, Tag Team, Classic Match, Tournament, and Battle Royal. Versus match types include the familiar 1 on 1, 2 on 1 (handicap), 3 way dance, 4 way dance setups, while tag team has the traditional 2 on 2, 3 way, 4 way, 6 and 8 man matches to choose from. Additional match options across the board include fan favorites like the hardcore, table, cage, ladder, and first blood matches, among others. The Classic Match takes fans back in time where you can participate in 15 of the best matches of all time. Initially only a few are unlocked with additional ones opening up through progression."
So I guess 8 man is in, which is awesome.

Another thing that I thought was very interesting and wanted to point out:

"The main game mode is Showdown Challenge in which you’ll take one wrestler of choice (either legend or created) and attempt to top the best legends in each era. Therefore you’ll start in the 70’s and progress on, complete with a wrestling magazine-like format where you can read the smack talk from upcoming opponents. Being that setting up drama is so important to the sport of wrestling, this gives an authentic feel."

I really think the magazine like format is a great idea, assuming it is done right. Nothing like reading about a particular fued, or reading what thoughts Savage has as your coming for him. I think it is a great addition.

I think the new team is focusing in all the right spots, and are really trying to give the Legends series a new feel, which it desperately needed. I am definately getting hyped up for this game, and hopefully it won't let me down.

    Thoughts?

I like the magazine idea and hope it would be setup in the way the old Apter mags and the WWF mags used to kayfabe things while promoting the storylines. That would be kinda neat to see.
