Yeah, I honestly do not think negatively of Ted Turner with regards to pro wrestling. It's not like there were many major networks interested in being associated with pro wrestling at all back then, let alone giving it the prime time treatment like he did. Even before Nitro, Clash of the Champions was basically like a free PPV on TBS.

Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread
Which is why I disagree when people say that WCW was clearly the top wrestling company for that period, just because they had better ratings on Monday nights. Everyone who worked for both companies at the time said that WWE was light years ahead in terms of running a wrestling company, TV production, booking PPVs, booking individual matches from start to finish etc. All Bischoff was doing was throwing money at former WWE guys specifically to get that one rating up.
As for throwing money at old WWF guys there is certainly an element of truth to that criticism but I was listening to a podcast once and they were talking about the original wave of WWF guys that went to WCW. Vince was convinced they were too old but Pat Patterson and Jerry Jarrett (who was working for Vince at the time) were telling him that those guys (especially Randy Savage) had a lot of gas left in the tank and it would be a huge mistake to let them go. In some respects, Vince's obsession with the hot new thing cost him for a few years.
The booking was definitely a mess for WCW but by and large that company ALWAYS had crazy crap going on behind the scenes that bled over onto the TV product. The thing is, the southern base that made up the majority of WCW fans LOVED how different it was from the WWF and let us not forget that when the influx of WWF guys first came in they initially rejected the WWF-lite style storylines and booking. Bischoff at least should be given credit for launching the storyline that lit the fuse for almost the entirety of the next decade of wrestling popularity. Alas, it proved his weaknesses as he wasn't strong enough and he was too much of a mark for himself that he couldn't kill the NWO storyline at its natural progression.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread
Maybe it's not so hard to believe that Vince was able to conquer that lol. Makes Men On a Mission sound like Public Enemy.
Also, reading the results of Super Clash 3 on wiki, and there was a woman wrestler named the Syrian Terrorist? Ah, the 1980s.Last edited by dubcity; 06-04-2016, 05:49 PM.Comment
