    Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread

Speaking of the Attitude Era. Has anybody checked out the First Look episode on the new 1997 DVD? I just happened to have the network on sitting on the home page yesterday and saw it on the live feed and said "F it and watched." Looks like it might be a decent watch with Renee Young hosting a panel of Shawn Michaels, Mick Foley, Ron Simmons, The Godfather and Kane talking about the changes in their characters, the company and society in general in 1997. I don't watch/listen to many if any podcasts/shoot interviews online so I'm kinda intrigued to see some of these guys' thoughts on the various topics the documentary is going to cover.

I would say 1998 was my favorite year for WWF. You could argue that the quality of the in-ring on an average Raw match wasn't great, but the overall entertainment value was there. PPV main events mattered and delivered. It still had that underground niche feel to it, before everything exploded the next year.

It was pretty good. I'm not sure I will watch the whole thing, but I'm sure there will be good spots here and there.

You always get the sense that everyone is their best behavior on a show like that tho. The older roundtable shows were a little freer.

I enjoyed it. HBK clearly spending a lot of time outdoors since moving to Florida. He's also in outstanding shape.

Yeah I was thinking as I watched it 'HBK looks more jacked now than he did during his second run with the company post back injury.'

It's crazy dude looks to be back to the build he was at in '97-'98 before the injury.

Yea I just saw this pic from Road Dogg of him and Shawn at an NXT taping, and Shawn is definitely more jacked than his second run in WWE.

The pops Austin got when you heard that glass shatter....lawd. [emoji1490][emoji1490][emoji1490]

On the flip side, I’m still trying to figure out why Vince did Mark Henry like that with him, Chyna and Sammi. And then showing that when his Mom was there too? Crazy times those were, lol

I agree with him. All the signs, the smaller arenas, meh production (looking back), etc. Didn't look like the established company of today.

Production was still better than WCW. Better lighting (WCW always looked dim), camera work and video packages.

                            Those Austin/McMahon video packages.

I still get hype when I watch the one they had for the 99 Royal Rumble and the one they had at Unforgiven(?)when McMahon threatened and fired Austin for not calling the Kane/Taker WWF Title Match straight.

                            "Stoneeeeee Cold.....screw you, you're firedddd!"

12 y/o Pack wanted to run thru that TV and slap the mess out of Vince at the time, lol.

Nah that was Judgement Day '98. It was here at the Allstate Arena (Rosemont Horizon at the time). I got to go to that show. Wish you guys could have felt how red hot that crowd was all night, but especially when Austin refused to count the three when Taker pinned Kane and then dropped Taker with that Stunner, counted them both out and declared himself the winner of the match. Even as just a baby faced freshman in high school I knew how hot that crowd reaction was.

It's so easy to rattle off memorable stuff from 98 all day. HBK vs Taker HITC, HBK era DX, Triple H led DX, The Rock turns corporate heel and wins his 1st WWF title, Austin wins his 1st WWF title, Mankind gets thrown off the cell, Austin vs McMahon, Austin vs Tyson, etc.

It's the perfect year to point to when you look back and think how crazy it was that so much happened in just a short period. That 4 year era (1998-2002) seems like it had to have been longer considering everything that went down.
