Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread
Based on the reaction at the 2000 rumble, everyone not only knew Tazz was coming, but that he was Angles opponent?
And the Dudleyz with a timely John Rocker reference in MSG.
The Dudleyz vs Hardyz table match is the first ever match I watched. I don't even think I saw any other part of this PPV back then, or watched Raw or SD until the year after, but I always remember that Jeff Hardy swanton through the table.
Just saw what segment followed the table match. Ya, that's definitely why I had to stop at the table match.
They're really making all these old guys judge this? They wanna give them heart attacks?
Terri easily won that. Mae Young...glad the network censored that.
Cactus vs HHH was brutal. HHH looked like he actually died.
Time for the rumble. That Too Cool reaction was huge. Only in NY could they get that reaction. Fans are still excited, the next entrant comes out..Steve Blackman. Crowd goes mild.Last edited by Majingir; 04-19-2020, 08:16 PM.Comment

Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread
Based on crowd reactions in 2000 in the cities like NY and Philly, sounds like Jericho was really over with that crowd, even in his mid card days.
HHH was hated all over.
And you can tell the similarities and differences between then and now. Back then they're making fun of Blackman for being generic with no gimmick, even though he's a great athlete. A slightly vocal minority started taking over his match with chants of their own ("head cheese" , a name Al snow suggested for them). Sound familiar?
Did something happen back then in the news? Only recently they're starting to emphasize those "Dont try this" commercials.Last edited by Majingir; 04-21-2020, 09:48 PM.Comment

Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread
I think a kid either paralyzed or maybe even killed another kid trying to give him a rock bottom and that triggered the don’t try this at home stuff. At least that was the rumor and innuendo back thenComment

Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread
I remember in later years they'd start using actual injury footage like when HHH got hurt and I think even the Foley HIAC one. I never knew the origin.
Back to the show, Dudleys go major heel and put Terri through a table! WWF fans are crushed. ECW fans are loving it. It is Philly afterall.Comment

Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread
Speaking of that, the other night I watched the episode of Donahue with Vince back in 1992 where everyone was piling on him about steroids and the "ring boys" scandal. There's also a heated Larry King Live from around that time where Bruno and Vince go at it. Bruno at one point tells him to shut his face. It's worth a view.Comment

Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread
The Smackdown before Halftime Heat 2000 was crazy.
-Tori turns on Kane and aligns with Xpac
-Mae Young reveals she's pregnant
-Edge/Christian vs Dudleys feud starting up
-MSP might need some protection from Tazz
-A horribly botched Rock Bottom on Rikishi. At least both guys sold it as if Rikishi countered
They could've called this HHH/Big Show alliance 'The Game Show'
Next weeks Raw will be interesting. Radicalz debut. Still don't know how much of Benoits stuff I want to watch. I know his matches, especially with guys like Jericho and Angle are great, but still..Comment

Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread
Raw kicks off with NAO defending titles against headcheese (or is it snowballs?).
Right off the bat, the story is the 4 guys from "that Ted Turner organization" sitting at ringside. JRs going crazy wondering why they're here and he cant stop calling them radicals. Everytime he says Chris Benoit I get chills. Even seeing him hitting the diving headbutt and selling? the impact it had on his head is eerie.
Big Show got a hair cut. HHH randomly is the first one to notice. Rock will have fun with this.
Birth of the APA. The MSP are hiding from the Radicalz and offer to pay the Acolytes for protection. Farooq is too busy making sure they empty their pockets with money while Bradshaw comes up with the name.
Harvey Wippelman is the ****** champ
They're hyping up some "WWF and pro football anouncement" coming in a few days. I smell a bad idea coming.Last edited by Majingir; 04-25-2020, 11:49 PM.Comment

Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread
First match for Benoit is vs HHH on Smackdown!? Probably just paying extra attention to this in hindsight, but Benoit seemed to take so many more headshots than others, and harder ones too. Driven head first into the steel steps, not even the pretend headshot where you block it with your hand, but actually head first.
Still can't believe how badly WCW messed up.
Jericho, Benoit, Eddie, all jumped ship in a several month timespan.
Clean sweep of the Radicalz by DX. I just read that Eddie and Perry were supposed to win the titles but he called an audible when he got injured. That makes lots of sense why they still had to do HHH vs Benoit, and the significance of Benoit tapping HHH out while the ref was down would've been bigger.
And will every WWF show start talking about the XFL for the next year?Last edited by Majingir; 04-28-2020, 08:05 PM.Comment

Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread
Raw
Raw this week takes place in Dallas. Home of the defending Stanley Cup champ Dallas Stars.....and newest Dallas Maverick, Dennis Rodman(not in attendance with the rest of the Mavs)
Spoiler
Match made, HHH vs Cactus in HIAC! Radicalz turn on Cactus and align with HHH. JR actually called Benoits move a "suicide like headbutt" multiple times in the night. One of those lines I'm surprised they left on the network.
Now Angle hits an angle slam on a pregnant maw young! Paramedics attend to her in the back before they see puppies and permanently get scarred for life.
Viscera with botch of the night. He's trying to run in and hit Bradshaw with a 2x4 but slips on some beer right as he enters the camerashot. Literally minutes after this he has an IC title match.
Cant believe the 2nd biggest pop of the night was Grandmaster Sexay hitting a leg drop off the top rope. Fans went crazy for that.
And to close out Raw, KANE IS BACK! He only missed a week, but felt like he was gone for ages (the monster at least was gone). What a huge moment. Fans going crazy, Kanes pyro hits, Bearer returns, Kane takes on DX AND Radicalz by himself.
SD
Spoiler
Angle challenges for the euro title. I honestly had no idea who the champ was. Title has been completely useless to this point, outside of when it was first introduced.
The "go to line" for Edge is mentioning he's engaged to Val Venis' sister. They mention this every single show out of nowhere.
In Benoits next appearance, King talks about how he has a "killer instinct". All these comments are so eerie to hear in hindsight.

I think my favorite find of The Network has been Tuesday Night Titans.
