Haha nah I just tend to ignore it. I figure if someone wants to make fun at me because of something I have an interest in, then they have a whole other bag of issues that they need to deal with first.

Seriously, when they start that "it's fake" nonsense I just shrug my shoulders and say so what.

I don't even understand why people feel the need to hate on wrestling though. Then again I work at Wal-Mart and there are things I see there everyday that I don't understand hahaha.

When I got my wife into wrestling I told her it was entertainment like a live action play. I got out of it from 2006 until recently but now in back thanks to the Wwe Network.

Usually its because people think they're getting a one-up on you for liking something that is "supposed to look real but is not real." You have to come back at them and say something along the lines of, "listen man (or woman) everybody that watches wrestling understands that its SCRIPTED. It's no different than watching The Walking Dead, reality TV or Pretty Little Liars. The genre might be different, but the production aspect is not. It's just like saying 'I don't like PLL bc that is a show for girls.'

Then I usually go with, "As for why I like it, it has something for everyone. If you're into sports, it still gives off the vibe of actual competition, it's just pre-determined. Have you ever watched a blow out basketball game? The pros of watching a pre determined wrestling show is that there are (usually) no bad matches. There's music, comedy, drama, action, everything. A live crowd, etc"

You can fill in the blanks with what you like but that's just what I say and it usually makes them understand, but remember:

YOU WILL NEVER GET THEM TO SAY "OH THAT ACTUALLY SOUNDS COOL" BECAUSE THEN THEY WOULD BE ADMITTING THAT THEY WERE WRONG.

AND NO ONE LIKES TO BE WRONG.

Just wait for them to start to provide more "obvious" insight, then interrupt them by getting right in their face and yelling, "IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT YOU THINK!"

I tell them "movies are fake, at least these guys do their own stunts" That usually puts them in their place.

It's kinda funny, I have always wanted to troll a UFC fan. Imagine if your friends talk about UFC and you turn it around on them, and see how long it takes them to figure out your doing to them what people have always done to you.

Friend: Man UFC is so awesome, can't wait for the next big fight.
You: You know it's fake right?
Friend: No it's not, it's real fighting.
You: Hey don't worry, I understand I used to like it so much as a kid and it attitude and everything. (Referencing the Attitude Era but just flip flopping to UFC)
Friend: Then why don't you watch it anymore?
You: It's fake, and the storylines are so bland. The fighters they used to have, they could talk and back it up. Now it's just eh.
Friend: So what do you watch now?
You: The real fighting, WWE. That's where the fights are at. Guys like The Rock, CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, so great. Plus why do you think Brock Lesnar left UFC, he wanted real fights not to be apart of some storyline.

Then continue on to see how long takes them to realize you reversed the roles.

I think a lot of the people who look down on wrestling fans grew up in an era where it was heavily marketed as real. Before the internet there was still the illusion of it being real. And I'm sure many people genuinely thought it was until it became mainstream knowledge that it is all staged. And those people whose only knowledge of the sport is that it's not reality without ever thinking about the tremendous work that goes into it.
