    ShowDown info from E3

Full credit goes to NateDogg at the GameFaqs board,

"I got a chance to checkout the current build of the game at the E3 convention today. The game was running at both the Acclaim and Xbox exibit areas, with Acclaim showing both the Xbox and PS2 versions. I looked for it at the big PS2 booth but I didn't see it. I spent the most time at the Xbox booth playing it, as that is the version I'm getting. To be honest, the game wasn't getting a lot of attention, since it was sitting between a Street Fighter aniversery game on one side and Dance Dance Revolution 2 on the other. More play time for me.

ENTRANCES: I watched a number of them and they all seemed glitch free from what I could tell. I didn't see any major clipping going on. Yes, Curt Hennig's entrance has been fixed, he no longer slips off the apron. LOD goes to separate corners as well. A nice touch is the managers are announced with the wrestlers.

GRAPHICS: The vids don't do the game justice, both the xbox and PS2 versions look awesome. The arenas are all rendured beautifully, the only glaring oversite is the missing ramp for the Tokyo Dome. The wrestlers all look like the real athletes for the most part.

SOUND: At first I couldn't hear much because the sound was down real low. I called over a xbox rep who turned the sound up to the max, lol. I have to say the commentary is actually very good. It's slightly behind the action at times but it's generaly very well done. Tony S. Heenan and Larry Z all flow pretty well together. They start off the match welcoming you(the viewer) on behalf of Acclaim to Showdown. They all introduce themselves and give their thoughts on how they think the match will be. One nice touch is that they make mention of classic past matches(or 1st title reigns) some of the wrestlers have had during the course of the match. Very nice. The sound effects are about as good as they should be I guess..punches and slams and weapon shots sound good.

CONTROLS/GAMEPLAY: Again, speaking of the xbox version..to me it plays like LOW2 with a few tweaks. The ISP system is gone. Reversals are easier to pull off, using the X button at the right time. I didn't see any submission moves done but I found out before I left the show that someone turned them off in the options menu."

"Finishers are done by clicking on the right thumbstick when your momentum is full. They are done in sort of a real time cut scene type of way, meaning that Savage will climb the rope and do his elbow drop without you having to guide him there. It reminds me of Giant Gram2K in that respect although unlike GG2K, you can climb the the turnbuckle at any time you want. Another guy who was playing the game with me, said the game plays like a slower version of Smackdown SYM. Take that as you will. The running has slowed down from the last games, the wrestlers kind of jog accross the ring now. It looks a lot better tho I would say it could be sped up a tiny bit. I wasn't able to figure out if you could drag an opponent this time around. I totally forgot to check out the tutorial because I was playing a lot of matches with other people. I didn't notice a lot of new moves in the time I played the game, although the tree of woe is back!

CAW: I didn't spend a lot of time on the CAL part but I checked out edit a legend pretty well. Yes, you CAN edit every move the default wrestlers have. It would seem that the sim movesets mentioned are based on the type of wrestler you want to make. High flyer, super heavy weight, all around etc. You can either edit a legend's existing movesrts or clone him to make a totally different wrestler.

CHALLENGE MODE: This where that "wrestling magazine presentation" that was mentioned comes into play. You pick your wrestler, then the Showdown magazine appears onscreen. The pages flip open and you see still shots of your wrestler and an opponent. From there a print story with voice over describes a spat between you and another wrestler which starts a feud. The Showdown mag appears between matches to update the story.

A few other things: Guess what Showdown and Fire Pro have in common? No seriously............FATIQUE! Yep, this time around the wrestlers actually get tired and it affects gameplay. When wrestlers have taken enough punishment over time, they hunch over and actually suck wind! In this state it's harder to pull off moves and make a comeback.

Weight detection is in as well, although it's kind of a mixed bag. On the one hand it seems like it works like a reversal. On the other hand, it seems to happen at random when the CPU is controlling a super heavy weight. I wrestled a match as Andre against Brett Hart and he was never able to slam me if I pressed the reversal button. If I didn't, he'd slam me every so often. It's not a perfect system but it's no worse than any other example in other games.

PROBLEMS: The Acclaim rep told me there were no title belts in the game, let alone wrestlers wearing them to the ring. He didn't seem 100% sure about it tho. Also the game froze up a couple of times while I played it.
The game is at this point 90% complete with some tweaks still to be done, but the bulk of the game is finished.

Overall, I'm impressed. There are still a few hiccups here and there but I think this will be at least a 7.5 or 8.0 game when it's done. Not great but very good. I'll be back at E3 on Friday to get in some more game time.

BTW.....sim junkies will be happy to hear that you can sim all gimmick matches in tournement mode! I didn't tryit with Battle Royal but it works with cage, ladder and table matches.

Another thing...the selling seems a bit better than the vids showed. Of course the meter is still there to show how much time you will stay down. One positive is that the wrestlers don't both get up at the same time nearly as much as in previous games. Say Kurt Hennig delivers a suplex to Randy Savage. Savage will sell the move on the ground for a few seconds( new animation here) while Hennig gets back up.
That's all for now..I'm tired, me sleep now."

No titles? Ouch! I cant figure out why companies can't get this right. Put titles in, let them be defended in Exibition. Seems simple enough. Of course, thats why I dont make games.

Well it's great to hear how good this game is. I can't wait for the release now cause it will be so much fun to wrestle with all those legends.

Wow sounds like the game will be a must own.

No titles is a bit of a disappointment tho. Oh well I can live with it.
