Showdown: LOW much better then review websites say.
I was not planning on getting Showdown: LOW, but once I read Gamepro and they gave it a good review I decided to go ahead and buy it. I didn't like the first two games, but this year I really love the game. It is awesome to play as wrestlers of the past. I know the game has its share of problems but for the most part if your into wrestling then this is a good game. It is a bit arcady at times, but it gets extremely fun if your into the past 30-40 years of wrestling. And all these bugs people talk about, I have rarely seen in the game. But this is the Xbox version I have, so maybe something is wrong with the other versions?Tags: None -
Re: Showdown: LOW much better then review websites say.
No, SHOWDOWN: Legends Of Wrestling is actually WORSE than what reviews say. I rented SHOWDOWN, played it, and hated it. The gameplay is such utter crap I don't even know why they released this mess. Acclaim should sell the Legends Of Wrestling series to Aki, because it is clear they will never make a good wrestling game, before they go bankrupt. Aki can make an unofficial Wrestlemania 2000 / No Mercy sequel with legendary wrestlers, and THAT would be a classic, not the crap Acclaim keeps shoveling out every year.
Recommended North American wrestling games instead of SHOWDOWN:
WWF Wrestlemania 2000 (N64)
WWF No Mercy (N64) (But the data loss glitch in this game brought down the game's value)
WWE SmackDown! games, especially WWF SmackDown 2: Know Your Role, WWF SmackDown! Shut Your Mouth, WWE SmackDown Here Comes The Pain, and the upcoming WWE SmackDown! Vs Raw
Instead of buying SHOWDOWN, you can make BETTER re-creations of the legends in the Create a Wrestler mode of WWE SmackDown! Here Comes The Pain, with stats, and their proper moves. Or, you can wait until WWE SmackDown! Vs Raw comes out in November. -

Re: Showdown: LOW much better then review websites say.
DDT is corect. LOW SUCKED beyond comprehension. You really think about it, and how drunk do you have to be to play this game, test, make it, then have the cajones to release it. It was horrible. No excuse for any of this. The random counters are so stupid, the finishers are some of the laziest things in the game, it does nothing and some are wrong. The movelists suck. The CAL is literally funny to think they could get away with this. I am glad I only rented the piece of crap, as it is maybe the worst game I have ever played on the X-Box.Comment

Considering Acclaim made it, it's probabily their best wrestling game ever. Look at their past failures like Raw and Attitude on the n64. Some people can get into this game and some just can't because expectations are too high. It's not like AKI or THQ is making this game.Comment

I personally don't think LOW is horrible, but it's still got some things to chance. My biggest gripe with the game are the movesets. I didn't intend to buy a game with Lengends in it that are doing todays moves... worse enough... moves that are mainly finishers.
But it's not horrible. Hopefuly they can go bankrupt and someone will buy the series from them for dirt cheap and actually listen to gamers that are wrestling fans.BeyondMediaOnline.comComment

Re: Showdown: LOW much better then review websites say.
There was another recommended North American wrestling game I forgot to mention: the upcoming WWE Day Of Reckoning for GameCube, on Sept. 1. WWE Day Of Reckoning has the Wrestlemania 2000 / No Mercy engine just like Wrestlemania XIX had, a WRESTLING season mode instead of the thoroughly reviled Revenge mode from Wrestlemania XIX, the location-specific damage and meter that is now a standard feature after SmackDown! Here Comes The Pain, a momentum shift meter, and a better CAW.
Here's what Jake "The Snake" Roberts said about SHOWDOWN: Legends Of Wrestling on his official website, http://www.jakethesnakeroberts.tv/ :
"...I'm quite annoyed that a lot of my opponents on the game
have done a lot more than they ever did in the ring. And also that my character
on the game isn't 100% accurate. After all, I changed all the time and still
do. But still, the most exciting and compelling game ever to be produced.
Can't wait for the next. They get better all the time."
I mean, how can they finally make another game with Jake "The Snake" Roberts in it and not give him his short-arm clothesline? It is a favorite move of his, and a setup move for the DDT!
I was expecting Edit A Wrestler in SHOWDOWN, and it doesn't even have that!
Sell the Legends Of Wrestling series to Aki, Acclaim, don't make another Legends Of Wrestling game if it's going to be as bad or worse than SHOWDOWN.Comment
