Re: On this day in professional wrestling history...
IIRC, I think the divas helped Lillian win as well.
This was McMahons way of moving on from Fink as an announcer and making Lillian the new voice of Raw.Comment

Still never understood why they didn't use him in the way WCW used Michael Buffer. Bring him in for the main events, Royal Rumble calls, etc.Comment

Re: On this day in professional wrestling history...
He was the Raw announcer until the AE really began, then came back for summer 2002 before that stuff with Lillian.
But he did do PPVs throughout the AE.
But I don't get why they didn't just keep Fink and Gene for longer.
I could understand him not traveling to do all those house shows, but being the PPV announcer all the time would've been fine. And for Gene, doing backstage stuff on Raw and PPVs I think he could've done too.
We have these sports commentators who do it well into their 60s and 70s. I'd imagine those guys could've done it too.Comment

Same reason the backstage interviewers are young attractive women. At some point they made the decision to go that route and somehow it just became the rule.Comment

Re: On this day in professional wrestling history...
Coach and Cole were the primary backstage interviewers for a decent amount of time after Gene left though. I don’t know the story but I assume it’s either “wcw offered him more money” or “wwe was just ready to move on” new look, new faces and all that jazz

Re: On this day in professional wrestling history...
In hindsight, obviously it ended up being a great choice. Although who could have predicted Jericho would be a full time guy AND leader of a stable when he never had a stable before, and had been part time in WWE the last number of years.Comment

30 years ago, Ric Flair made his WWF Debut on this day back in 1991. Can't wait to see how WWE celebrates this iconic moment... oh wait.
