I’m not even sure The Nation gimmick would’ve worked for them, at least long term.

    It would’ve felt forced.

One year ago today, before real Glass there was the Real Worlds Championship. Now CM Punk is in the hottest feud in WWE and getting ready for a match at Summerslam this week.

I wonder if Punk handed over that version of the AEW title or if he kept it like when Madusa and Ric Flair left WCW?

If Drew beats Punk, does he become the real world champ?

August 8th, 1992. The debut of the Bad Guy Razor Ramon. Fun Fact, his opponent that night was Paul Van Dale. Van Dale at the time was the father to a future WWE Superstar who was 4 at the time of this match. That Superstar? The first Women's MITB and former SD Women's Champion Carmella.

Not that he was a notable name or anything, but Carmella is definitely one of the lesser talked about second gen wrestlers ever in WWE (as in, you wouldn't even know she's a 2nd Gen wrestler because it's never mentioned, and everyone with any sort of ties gets that fact mentioned).

                  Another Toronto Summerslam memory.

                  20 years ago today

The show overall might not have been one of the all time classic Summerslams, but the story of the show is Orton winning the WHC

For years that event was special for me because of the hype I remember in the city for it, but seeing what things were like for Summerslam 2019, and then to a lesser extent MITB this year, those definitely top it for me.

Surprising part to me is how on Raw this week Orton referenced this match. This match easily could've been replayed as much as WWE plays Cena vs Angle in Cenas debut. But this is the first time I can remember in over 15 years that someone has directly mentioned that match on TV. They've shown clips before (the old "Orton found the WHC" moment) but don't think anyone has flat out been like "Orton won the world Heavyweight Championship at Summerslam 2004". The more talked about moment is of course what we saw on Raw the next night.

A few days late but on August 13th, 2018 the final RAW before Summerslam. Roman cuts a promo about beating Brock Lesnar, is interrupted by Heyman who teases becoming the advocate for Roman Reigns but Reigns turns him down and gets attacked by Brock. I know Roman had to give up the Universal Championship due to his Leukemia a few months later but damn... imagine if Vince would have let this happen a few years sooner.

All those legends in the ring, and Vince's idea: let's have Brock go down there and make all of them look pathetic and weak for heat. I always hated that logic.

Isn't a monster heel supposed to punk and bully everyone, so that the 'conquering babyface' can get the payback?

Jericho punked Roddy, Steamboat, and (I think) Snuka which led to multiple matches and Mickey Rourke was supposed to be the conquering hero.

Just like a few years ago when Mark Henry, Big Show and Ric Flair cried cause heel Randy Orton punked them out, but that was to get him heat and have Drew get the win over Orton.

The IWC and fans in general are just whiny and too concerned with keeping the 'old guard' strong while also complaining when they don't put over younger talent (FTR/The Revival segment with DX at RAW 25). [emoji53]

To me it matters who the fodder is, and the context. In 20 years would it be cool to have the reunited Bloodline come out for Roman's birthday and be made to look helpless and pathetic to get heat on Heel X? It's unnecessary and dumb, and I doubt we see that nonsense under Triple H.

Then we mostly agree that it should just be used sparingly and not for already over/a mega main event talent like Cena.

Doing it to make Brock look like a bigger ******* and 'bully' is fine, though.

                              Speaking of Brock Lesnar...

10 years ago (yesterday) the new WWE logo belt was unveiled

The new logo was first used on the main roster for Summerslam the night prior, but first used overall officially February 2014 but technically in early 2012.

So officially we're only 2 years away from the new logo being around longer than the WWE scratch logo, but technically the new logo has been around in some capacity longer than the WWE scratch logo.

I remember when I first saw HHHs tweet I fully thought he was just talking about Mike Rotunda or Barry Windham when he mentioned a death, then I had to double check and realize he was talking about Bray.

It's still crazy how similar this whole situation ended up being to Brodie Lee.
