Re: On this day in professional wrestling history...
Don't know what's funnier, the botch, the fact that USA Network is bringing up the 10th anniversary of the botch, or her response to them

Re: On this day in professional wrestling history...
Obviously a different kind of "this day in wrestling history", would've been his 66th birthday.
He did live way longer than he should have given his issues, but still sad realizing he only lived until 63.
You lose track of ages you forgot how old some people actually are. Flair and Hogan in their 70s, Cena retiring at 48 next year while Vince is gonna be 80 next summer is crazy.Comment

Re: On this day in professional wrestling history...
We all know what happened to Kofis push, but is it crazy to say in hindsight his career ended up bigger because he didn't get pushed? New Day would have never happened, Kofimania never happens, maybe Kofi does get elevated to a brief main event spot but then falls back down the card in an era where WWE thought Del Rio, Ryback and others were more worthy of pushes. I don't see Kofi even with a push being any better off than Daniel Bryan pre yes movement or CM Punk pre pipe bomb.
That Raw in general has always been one of my fave episodes of Raw ever (up there with Raw after WM14). There was a brief time where WWE made these MSG Raws/SDs feel bigger than a PPV.Comment

1 year ago today, Hell Froze over at the end of Survivor Series 2023. Now he'll be competing in War Games as the 5th Member of the OG Bloodline one year later.

Once the show ended I figured it was all just rumors and if Punk didn't return at this show, there's no point having him return at a random Raw or some other PLE. Then they swerved everyone with the end of show screen before Punks music hit.Comment

Re: On this day in professional wrestling history...
10 years ago today, one of the game changing NXT events with the impact still felt today.
Sami wins his first NXT title
KO debuts
KO attacks Sami
Graves makes his commentary debut after announcing his in ring retirement
Finn Balors first PLE/Takeover
Charlotte defends NXT women's title against Sasha (a match which would set up the eventual 4 horse women fatal 4 way at the next takeover which imo was THE match to put all 4 on the map simultaneously)Comment

Re: On this day in professional wrestling history...
Just missed the anniversary, but it's been 4 years since Brodie Lee passed away.
Still feels so surreal seeing that, and then even crazier, Bray going through a very similar thing years later!
People are used to wrestlers young and old dying, usually the cause is drug, alcohol, cte related or something like that, but seeing Brodie and Bray, both who at least publicly appeared to be fine physically were actually battling such a horrible thing.Comment

6 years ago...... AEW was revealed on the January 1st episode of BTE. Now, 6 years later AEW will be on a major streaming platform and safe to say, it's come a long way in the six years since this moment.

AEW forced WWE to do business differently and handle talent differently because there was an alternative. Not competition in terms of ratings, but competition in terms of your staff has more reason to be pickier since they can just get up and leave when their deal is done.
Nobody could've predicted the timeline with a pandemic and eventually Vince getting booted out of the company, but all of that contributed to wrestling as a whole being stronger than it ever has been.Comment

Re: On this day in professional wrestling history...
Forgot to post it a few days ago, but can you believe it's been 15 years!?
Same was true last year too, but more time has passed between that moment and today than the time that passed between the screwjob and that moment.
Don't think non older fans can truly understand just how crazy this whole saga got for 13 years and how nobody ever believed Bret would step foot in a WWE ring again. The HOF induction seemed like the most he'd ever do, he didn't even want to show up the next night at WM.Last edited by Majingir; 01-08-2025, 08:12 PM.Comment

Re: On this day in professional wrestling history...
5 years ago....... The 2020 Royal Rumble where we saw Brock Lesnar as WWE Champion enter the Rumble, dominate early on only to get eliminated by Drew McIntyre who would eventually going on to win the Rumble. Oh and...... Edge made his Return to Wrestling after being retired for 9 years.
Fun Fact: Edge spoke to AEW in 2019 about making his return in AEW prior to him returning in the Rumble.

It's a shame McIntyre still never got his moment yet after all that. His character now is better than ever simply because he hasn't gotten his moment yet and that plays in to the character as well, but what a moment it could've been if he won either of those Clash at the Castle matches.
As for Edge, I remember they even let him say that on his WWE documentary that he was approached by a "rival organization" about making his return there. Those comments in hindsight feel so much different now that we saw him actually go to AEW after that WWE deal expired.
Does make me wonder how much different things would be if his return happened in AEW instead.Comment
