Why do we put up with WWE?

I realize they've got a ridiculous amount of talent right now, but that's a pretty recent development, and the booking is ****. The cuffs they put on their performers are ****. They are predictable, boring, and talk almost as much as they l... uhh... "sports entertain" or whatever they do in the ring since its not wrestling.

Why? Why aren't we making every effort to funnel our dollars to RoH or, what the hell, NJPW?

Now I've made no secret, I really do love NXT, but I still waste 6 hours a week on WWEs other 3 shows... why do we do this to ourselves?

The first kind is wrong. The second is superfluous.

The majority of us on here are not pro-wrestling fans. We want to be sports-entertained and WWE is the only viable option out there to do so.

If you're not a pro wrestling fan, then I guess I wasn't really talking to you.

I think you misunderstood me..when I was saying most of us aren't specifically pro-wrestling fans, that was answering your question of why we aren't putting all of our $$ towards ROH or NJPW, which is because those promotions don't satisfy the sports-entertainment aspect that we all enjoy, hence why we watch WWE.

Because you don't really have a choice? WWE is never going to be as hot and as entertaining as it was it was 15 years ago and prior. The Network put a nail in that coffin with all the money they get from it. The product will be heavily sanitized and scripted until pro wrestling officially dies in 20 years when people my age have watched all the classic stuff 100 times over, and the younger generation growing up with the current product realize they have no interest in watching WM33 or any of these current PPVs ever again. The Network is the buffer keeping WWE alive.

Re: Why do we put up with WWE?

I haven't followed Japan really since NJPW and WCW were trading talent back in the 90's. I enjoy both pro wrestling and sports entertainment. To me, WCW in the 80's up until about 1996 was pro wrestling and WWF has always been about entertainment. There are positives and negatives for each.

Heck, on my WWE videogames I always run historical universes such as WWF 1988 for its tag divison and WCW 1998 for its stable warfare. I never run current universes.

Nowadays, I only pay attention to the WWE because of the network. As I have stated many times, the $9.99 for all of the old content is worth the subscription alone. The fact that the current product ppvs comes with it is an added bonus. Sure, there are some stars that I enjoy and wish they were competing back in the day when the product was better in my eyes, but most of it at this point is meh at best.

Most of my complaints is not the actual talent but more of the writing, the cookie cutter faces, the performers not being able to shoot from the hip in promos and the borefest at the announcer table besides Graves.

Nope. It's quite good right now. The writing on Smackdown is the best I've seen in a very very long time. In fact it might be the most well rounded show from start to finish that WWE has ever produced.

Wrestling fans will always have a problem with looking at the past through rose colored glasses. I mean I think we all crave certain aspects of the Attitude Era. But I certainly didn't hold that era in such high regard at the time. While he Attitude era was going on I wanted things to be more like the Rock n Wrestling era. We all remember the best parts of each era and subsequently we block out all the garbage. I guarantee in 10 years we'll all remember fondly the AJ Styles "New Era" as a really exciting time for the WWE where the in ring product was really taken to a new level.

For me, I just love the feeling of watching a guy I really like win a big match where it isn't a given that he's going to win. It's still real to me dammit

I watch it for all the talented guys and girls. While there are always going to be those who are clearly a cut above, all of them bring different things to the table. A recent example I can give is Rusev when I first saw him in WWE I was not a fan, he bored me to death. Then he started showing me more of what he can do and I changed my tune. WWE is what I grew up on in the Attitude Era so it's all I know.

I don't "put up with it". I enjoy it (DVR helps as I usually fast forward until the finish of meaningless matches).

The real question is why do YOU put up with it. As I don't think most here view it that way.

Yeah, I think it's been as positive as its been for a while around here. Might be a personal issue.
