The thing about the company being too safe, boring and sterile is that it's basically become a more stable and corporately approved version of WCW. Vince McMahon has become the very thing he never thought he would.

It's also clear that we're never going to see the workers have any kind of say in terms of promos or creative booking of their character and feuds like they did for most of the '80s and '90s. So suffice it to say, this family friendly, stale corporate WWE is what we're stuck with so long as there's no viable alternative that literally puts WWE on the ropes. One can make the case that the sands of creativity has been slipping away since the death of WCW.

Makes me feel a little better knowing I'm not the only one that's grown disillusioned with WWE.

Thankfully there's other options out there that we can watch.

I don't think being too safe and family friendly is the problem. I mean don't get me wrong I'd love to see Lana and Zelina Vega in a bra and panties match but there is no reason they can't put together a corporate approved product that is still interesting. The TV shows used to be to promote the wrestlers for live events and PPVs, now Raw and Smackdown are just kind of there. If anything big is going to happen they'll announce it ahead of time so you know when it will be worth watching

They don't even need edginess to be good. I'd rather watch Charlotte vs Becky in a match than Sable and Jacqueline and what their feud revolved around. And I'd rather see Rollins-Elias story over some edgier Val Venis feud.

The issue is that there is little to no storylines or character progression. Look at old days and do something like compare The Rock when he started in 98 to how he ended and look how different he was. Or Orton when he debuted to where he went within the next year or two. Look at WWE today. Is Finn Balor any different today vs him in his Raw debut? Is Roman Reigns much different now compared to in 2017,2016,2015?

The matches themselves don't have any meaning either, go too long, and commercial breaks during them. I'd rather see Mankind vs Kane on Raw in some short 5 minute match which ends with a DQ because of something that furthers a Mankind feud and/or a Kane feud, than a 20 minute match with Balor and Owens with 3 commercial breaks inbetween, a match with no reason for happening, and no future impact on any kind of storyline.

Shows also end with no cliffhangers either. They have exact same formula every week. A 15-20 minute match with multiple commercial breaks, and the match will end and we get post match celebration, replays of what happened, more celebrations, commentary wrapping up everything and the show ends. Unlike other eras of Raw where the final few minutes are often the best parts of the show with crazy things happening and cliffhangers and things that make you excited to see what happens next week.

I think there's a fine line between safe and family friendly and being overly so to the point that you can't even get anything remotely edgy. You can push the envelope a bit and still be kid safe IMO. You do make a good point about them always telegraphing anything "big" though.
