New day on commentary is great.

As much as we criticize the in ring stuff, maybe commentary needs changing just as much. Mainly just the freeflowing nature of it with guys just having fun on commentary and having excitement like we heard from Woods and Big E.

Better than the generic scripted commentary. Big E and Woods made all segments and matches better.

Kofi actually referenced something from 10 years ago. I remember that. It was one of my fave Kofi moments.

They actually went there! Kofi flat out saying Orton held him down backstage. So those rumors were really true? The "stupid!stupid!stupid!" comment was legit?

Main event was great. No sitting through a 15 min match where we know nobody gains anything, and it was 99% likely ending in a dq or no contest. Straight to the part we knew was coming, 2 mins into the match.

Props to WWE for having Charlotte lose to Ember to help build her up for the match against Bayley. Charlotte got the Cena treatment where she can't lose clean in a loss but where does Charlotte go from here? Does she try to shoehorn her way into Becky/Nattie's match now? Maybe Sasha returns and faces Charlotte?

Owens is definitely winning the match at Summerslam, unless he asked for time off like Balor and this is how they give that to him. Speaking of Balor, guess he'll lose to Wyatt before taking his leave.

I don't see any way KO is taking time off. He's being built up as the next Austin. And he just missed almost a year.

The commentary is a HUGE part of it. Wrestling commentary should be tongue in cheek and satirical at its core, which is not something a lot of people can pull off. When it turns into something serious, or it feels forced and scripted (as in WWE), it makes the product worse.

A lot of wrestling fans talk about how they want commentary to treat it like a legit sport, or take it seriously, but I don't most people want that. Definitely not in every match on the show. The serious stuff will unfold organically and work with or without a guy calling it like a real fight

Smackown was enjoyable this week. There was a purpose to every segment with Kevin Owens finding his groove as a babyface. Seems like Shinsuke has found his groove since being back on TV as well. Hope he gets a decent run with the IC title. I thought HBK was not going to take any bumps on the Miz TV segment. But he did to put over Ziggler to heat this feud with the Miz. That was cool.

Kofi Kingston brings up his history with Orton from 10 years (hey continuity!) in a great promo to kick off their new feud. Great words from both men here. The Firefly Funhouse segment was nice too. The only thing that sucked was the quick cameo appearances for Bayley, Ember Moon and Charlotte. No 24/7 shenigans here either.

For some reason Jerry Lawler returns to SD to host Kings Court (imo it should've been Miz. Even Bliss for all we care). His guest.....Trish Stratus!
