So basically you make it imaginary in your head? I always plays this mode when the game comes out and then get insanely bored. Already played the first 2 shows in April (RAW and Main Event) and had absolutely nothing happen. Just match after match.

I don't understand how everyone makes this mode fun.

I just look at universe as a franchise mode. There are no storylines in Madden or FIFA either, just game after game...

Is it true, when you turn of automatic rivalry, you wont get any cut scenes?

If it's like the past the cut scenes weren't necessarily linked to automatic rivalries but they were actual RIVALS. If they are a top 2 rival/ally you will still see cut scenes. I have seen plenty of cut scenes in the past with auto rivalries turned off but setting guys up as the #1/#2 rival. Haven't had much time to play around this year but I would think it would be similar.

I'm just having a problem with some of the belts not being defended at the PPVS. I have Bret Hart and Cesaro in a rivalry with Bret being the IC champ. I assumed the game would default their match to a title match at the PPV but nope not happening. Two PPVS later, it's the same thing. I just want the belt on the line. I guess I could edit it, but then that would take away the cut scenes.

I don't think we are able to create our own title matches yet. That was one of the bugs when the game first came out.

I thought it only applied to non PPV shows? If I'm wrong, then my apologies.

I just picked up my copy on Friday and haven't started my Universe yet as I'm still figuring out exactly how I'm going to run it this year but I thought the bug was that you couldn't create your own title matches at all, but I could be wrong too.

Universe isn't fun unless you make it fun for yourself. The game mode itself is actually very flawed, however, I enjoy it. I enjoy wrestling, I enjoy wrestling games. Then like Wis, just creating stories in your head and writing down your own stats and everything makes it insanely fun.

Exactly. I usually have a notebook or files on my computer where I'll book entire TV shows and PPV's, including promos for wrestlers to set up feuds and matches. The one thing I like about Universe Mode is it provides a nice shell for what you can do in terms of TV and PPV matches. I've done runs where I let the CPU book everything and then others where I take full control.

You can always bypass Universe Mode all together and just run shows on your own and keep track of the results. It's really up to you.

That's what I do. I have a notebook and write shows down in it and also when I am booking things a month or so out I will write down things I want to do. I let the CPU do run-ins and if they make sense I use them but if not I don't.

Yeah like Wis and Bard said the way we make Universe fun is by writing it all out. Storylines,rivalries all that good stuff! If any of you guys wanna check out our stuff please feel free! And once we get ours going for this year follow along, who knows maybe we will inspire you

Yeah I'm with you. No promos being cut are not realistic. Cut scenes are jus jump from behind or attack before or after a match. It's incredibly boring to me

For me the best universe hands down was WWE 12. I still play it because the cutscens and storylines happened on their own and you never knew what the heck was going to happen week to week. I had some incredible stories and only had to use minimal imagination to fill in the gaps.

Some examples.

Once there was a huge feud going on for the tag team titles between Harlem Heat and Kane and Big Show. Nearly every Raw they were getting into it after or before matches with cutscenes. After a few weeks the legion of doom suddenly started showing up and they started attacking both teams. Soon all three were in a heated feud with multiple attacks, interfrences, everything it was glorious.

After a while Big Show and Kane became champs and they held the belts for a while. The feud between the three teams died down but Big Show was taking off as singles competitor. Eventually he won the WWE Title. Show went on a tear and one night after a PPV win by show Kane came out and attacked him. After that during their tag matches Kane would just bail and they started a feud.

I interpenetrated all of that as Kane got jealous of Big Shows success. After their crazy tag title war, Big Show benefited from a big push while Kane was still pretty much relegated to tag matches. He got feud up and betrayed show but they still had the belts to defend so they were a dysfunctional mess lol.

Another time Cody Rhodes was in a feud with the nwo for months. Every week on Nitro he was getting beat down, booked in handicap matches, and just tortured by various members of the nwo. Before that all started though he was a in a big feud with his brother gold dust. Eventually with the nwo feud none other than goldust finally decided to come out and save his brother. It was like Golddust wanted to protect his flesh and blood even though they hated eachoother and they started teaming up to take the nwo on.

Lots more has happened to me over the years of playing but for me, that's what universe is all about. I don't want to have to set up specific rivalries to take place over specific periods of time. I want to tell the game who hates eachother and let it develop the stories for me. I want to be excited to see how things turn out each week, who become the hero, who becomes the villain.

Over the years universe has really gotten away from that. This year you don't even get scenes unless you you turn on the bland, planned out rivalries. This new generation has been all about emergent gameplay, games that kind of take on a life of their own. WWE needs to get back to that and give us a real breathing, living universe that takes on a life of its own and provide endless entertainment that isn't predictable and parceled out.

Who ever came up with the idea for universe in the early days of 11 and WWE 12, they are a freaking genius. I don't know what the heck happened after that though, it just got worse.

I thought I was doing it wrong lol.. yes it seems like this mode only makes sense if you are simming through everything and that is no fun.. Maybe it gives you a little bit of incentive behind doing random matches and creating stables instead of just doing play now.

Every year I try something different. One thing that keeps the mode fresh for me, is booking wrestlemania from the jump. I decide the main event, from the beginning. Do I want a feel good underdog story, bring a legend back for a title run, or shock value heel turn.

Just out of curiosity...how do you guys play universe mode? Do you guys play every match or do you guys stick to one guy/rivalry for a certain amount of time and Sim the matches your wrestler is not in?

I book the non - rivalry matches on Raw and Smackdown, and sim those. I book my own rivalries and play the 3 rivalry matches on the shows. I play every match on the PPV card. One of my favorite things is creating tag teams, and factions.
