Jess Stewart MLB '09 RTTS Thread

Twins Draft Stewart in 2nd Round
The Minnesota Twins took the 18-year old 3B from Manassas, VA (Osbourn HS) in the 2nd round of the 2009 MLB Draft. The 6-3, 215 right handed bat has a cannon arm and looks to be a solid middle of the order hitter. He doesn't have great speed but is fast enough. Stewart projects as a .290-25-100 type of hitter, and the Twins needed an upgrade at 3B for the future. We'll see how quickly the youngster from VA can make it to the bigs, if he can at all.

Stewart struggles in 2009 Spring Training
The rookie hit .222 (18-81) with only two XBH (2B, HR) and drove in 12 runs. He stole a couple bases and did not make an error in the field. Stewart showed a free swinging mentality at the plate fanning 22 times in 81 AB's, and he'll need to be more disciplined to move up the ranks.

The Twins signed Stewart to a AA contract where he will start out as a bench player.

I can't keep up with 1 gm/day and that's what it would take to play a full season.

This better suits my free time.

Stewart shipped to Baltimore for RHP

2nd round pick Jess Stewart asked his AA manager for more playing time but he was turned down. Stewart then asked to be traded and the Twins let the 18-year old 3B go to his hometown team, the Orioles.

Stewart was hitting .254 (HR, 13 RBI) for New Britain but was hitting over .300 after a terrible start. The youngster also has missed most of the season with a fractured leg, which put him on the 60-day DL.

Stewart went 1-5 in his debut with Bowie, with 2 K's and a GIDP. Bowie lost

Stewart Homers Against Former Team in 1st AB

The Bay Sox gave Jess Stewart a chance to get back at his former team and Stewart did just that with a 3-run home run in the 1st inning to give the Bay Sox the early 3-0 lead. Bowie would go on to win 7-0.

Stewart would finish 2-4 with the 3-run HR and a walk.

Current stats: .265 avg, 2 HR, 16 RBI

              Update:

              First career HR

So far I'm not getting many AB's with the O's and I have a feeling I may get sent back to AAA. I'd rather get some AB's because I'm struggling in The Show. I need to work on my discipline at the plate, and when you get to the Bigs and face Josh Beckett and Zack Greinke you need to be ready!
