Re: The Career of Bryan Hurst (MLB 09)

Take your time. I'm in no rush. It may be a few weeks before I can purchase the ps3 anyway. Oh, you might as well send me the ones for mlb 2010 instead. I might as well pick it up, plus ch2k8 for the ps3, when I purchase the ps3. In the mean time, I'll be doing an offline one with the default sliders w/all-star difficulty level for practice. I named my center fielder "Mickey Mentle". Quite poor so far, 2/4 sb%, .197 through middle of April in AA with 2 HRs and 5 RBIs, while playing for the Birmingham Barons with mlb 08.

Thanks again and good luck on your quest for superstardom in "the show".

Re: The Career of Bryan Hurst (MLB 09)

      Jan. 28, 2010

This was always the best time of year. The time at the start of spring training when hope, optimism and smiles were in the air. The time when you could convince yourself that the jigsaw puzzle of players from different countries and backgrounds you had assembled could all fit together and form a championship.

But Detroit Tigers President and General Manager Dave Dombrowski was having a tough time convincing himself of that as he sat in his Lakeside, Florida spring training office. He sat there at the head of a conference table with a dozen Tigers coaches and scouts and all he saw was 66-96 – Detroit’s 2009 record.

It was the most difficult season of his career and he wasn’t sure the team could be turned around in one season as he reviewed the organization. Where was the depth that had been present in 2006 when the Tigers won the pennant?

“What prospects can we count on from Erie this season?” asked Dombrowski.

Asking what players could be counted on from a Double-A affiliate would have seemed like a strange question 10 years ago but now many of the top prospects made the jump directly from Double A to the Majors Leagues, rather than stop in Triple A and play against Minor and Major League veterans.

“Well, if you’re looking for speed there is that Hurst kid,” said Tom Jackson, a scout.

“Okay, somebody giving me the scouting report on Hurst?” asked Dombrowski. He was handed a large three-ring binder and turned to the first page.

“Is this some kind of a joke,” said Dombrowski. “I remember trading for this kid. Now we’re saying he has D speed. We’ve given him F in power and F in fielding. I don’t think I’ve seen a scouting report this bad in a long time.”

“Well we’ve seen some thing things we like in him which is why he has A potential,” said Jackson. “He was second in the league in steals last season and led the league in triples. His fielding is rated so poorly because he played out of position last year as a shortstop. We’ll use him as a center fielder. His hitting needs a lot of work but he’s only 19. That’s why he’s not on our 40-man roster.”

Dombrowski sighed and leaned back in his chair. He turned the page in his binder.

“Thank God he’s only making $30,000 a year,” said Dombrowski.

“He better improve his hitting or he’s going to have a very short career. I’ll be keeping a close eye on him.”

Note: I bought RTTS points online to make sure his MLB 2010 ratings were as close as possible to his MLB 09 ratings

        Dedication.
Spending money in order to remake a player on a new game.

I still don't understand how in RttS your player will always get rated so bad despite playing so good, you'd think it would matter just a bit in the rating.

Re: The Career of Bryan Hurst (MLB 09)

As I found through my first go-around with "Nolan Ryan", it's all attribute driven. The player is basically rated through the building (improving) of the attributes. It's the attributes that will change the overall rating and that will move the player up the ladder from AA to AAA to, eventually, MLB. As the attributes increase, it will also change the scouting report's grades and comments.

The stats, and in-game goal achieving, will produce points in which to build the attributes of the player (training). The goals on bhurst's "Honey Do" list is basically a map in which we know which attribute(s) the game is looking for us to improve at the different points throughout the season.

I would like to add one more thing too, anybody reading and doing a RTTS simulating through your season is a very very bad idea trust me I lost my everyday second baseman 6 years in third year in the majors because one night I got bored and wondered what would happen, all that did happen was profile being erased and having to start over.

Re: The Career of Bryan Hurst (MLB 09)

              April 6, 2010

There was something else he had to do. It nagged at Bryan Hurst as he looked down at the empty cardboard boxes.

But what was it? All the new games, DVDs, blue-rays had been put on the shelves. There was really nothing else to do at 5 am in the electronics section of the 24-hour Walmart where Hurst had been working since October.

The night shift in the Walmart was a dream job. Few customers, fewer bosses and lots of time to try out the new products, sneak in a game at the Playstation 3 kiosk or just dream. You could just lose your sense of time and place during the night shift.

So what was this sense, this doubt that told him that he was missing something.

Hurst was worried. It seemed like every week he was in danger of getting fired. He had a hard time with the cash register in the electronics department – nearly always screwing up people’s change, giving people too much money or too little. He had wrongly accused an elderly lady of shoplifting a hip hop CD. A 55-inch television had gone missing from the department. Now he had forgotten something.

He scratched his head and looked at the names on the DVD’s – Madonna’s Greatest Hits, Pele’s Greatest Goals. It was his dream that one day he would be so famous he would be known by one name.

“Rosa, what do you think sounds better – Hurst or The Hurst,” he asked one of the cleaners who silently patrolled the Walmart floor at this time of day.

“What are you talking about?” Rosa asked.

“If I was to be known by one name, what would it be?” Hurst asked.

“You mean like Spiderman or Superman?” Rosa asked. “You’re kind of spidery.”

“No, I mean a real person. You know like Rihanna or Lady Gaga,” said Hurst.

“I’m pretty sure Lady Gaga is two words,” said Rosa.

“I think Gaga is her name and Lady is just a title like Queen,” said Hurst.

“I don’t think Lady Gaga is her real name,” said Rosa.

“Oh no. I’m pretty sure you have to be royality to get outfits like that,” Hurst said.

“No, she’s not. Your crazy. I have an idea,” said Rosa, trying to surpress her laughter. “People could call you Bryan.”

“No, c’mon, be serious. What’s better Hurst or The Hurst?,” asked Hurst.

“Bryan, people who work at Walmart don’t get to be known by one name. Only famous people like singers, actors, scocer players or baseball players get to be know by one name.”

“Baseball?” wondered Hurst to himself. There was something about that.

The telephone in the electronics department rang. It never rang at this time of day.

Hurst picked it up. “Welcome to Walmart, where low prices are-”

“Is that you Hurst?” crackled a voice on the other side. It was angry and strained.

“Yes, it’s The Hurst at your service,” Hurst said. The Hurst: It did sound good.

“Do you know why I am calling you at 5 am in the morning,” said the voice. “Do you know how hard I have been trying to reach you for the past two weeks?”

“Are you looking for a game?” Hurst inquired. “We get a lot of midnight sales on new games.”

“I’M NOT LOOKING FOR A GAME. MY NAME IS PHIL NEVIN AND I’M LOOKING FOR MY STUPID CENTRE FIELDER WHO SHOULD HAVE REPORTED TO ERIE TWO WEEKS AGO BECAUSE THE SEASON STARTS IN TWO BLOODY DAYS.”

“Oh my God. I‘m so sorry coach. I’ve been working night shift and it snowed here this month and I forgot all about baseball.,” said Hurst.

“Get your Canadian butt down here. You’ve just lost your starting job and you’re going to have to earn it back from the bench,” said Nevin.

“Okay, I’ll leave for Erie immediately. Coach do you think you help me with something?” asked Hurst.

              “What?” said Nevin.

“We’ve had been having an argument here about whether Lady Gaga is a real name. Could you settle it for us?”

Thanks. I thought I needed an explanation as to how I start the season on the bench.
