Up & Comers Version 2.0: SWB Yankees

Welcome to Moosic, PA. Neither Scranton or Wilkes-Barre, but the home of the Yankees Triple-A affiliate, SWB Yankees. The Baby Yankees make their home at the cozy 10,800 seat PNC Field which was opened in 1989. The goal of new SWB manager Jay Huhn is to develop the young talent in the Yankee farm system and help prepare them for the majors.

The Yankees have for years depleted their farm system in efforts to bring in big talent at the major league level, but as George Steinbrenner has reduced his role in the team, Brian Cashman has begun to amass a talented system once again in an effort to take the Yankees back to where they had come from.

This is the story of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees.

On a sidenote, I have aprox. 95% of this team named, you can tell the ones that aren't. If anyone has any idea who they are, please let me know so I can change them up. Also if you'd like any of your favorite team's minor leaguers followed let me know and I'll make a post for it.

        Yankees @ IronPigs

        1-0 @ 0-1

        YANKEES : 0 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 2 | - 6 | 15 | 0
        IRONPIGS : 2 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 1 | - 3 | 13 | 1
        W Brackman (1-0) L Woods (0-1) S Ramirez (1)
        HR E. Duncan (1, 1 on, 0 out, 9th, off Nelson)
        Player of the Game Shelly Duncan 3-4 2 2B 3B RBI 2R

Shaking off some early bad breaks Andrew Brackman pitched six strong innings en route to his first win of the season. Shelly Duncan went 3-4 with two doubles and a triple, knocked in a run, and scored twice to lead a balanced offensive attack which saw 8 of their 15 hits go for extra bases, including three triples. Anthony Claggett was brought in to finish the 9th, but after surrendering a run and loading the bases with none out Edwar Ramirez was pressed into service. Ramirez forced a double play, then a weak grounder to second to pick up his first save of the season.

          Yankees @ IronPigs

          2-0 @ 0-2

          YANKEES : 2 | 0 | 3 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 2 | 4 | - 13 | 23 | 0
          IRONPIGS : 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 0 | - 2 | 8 | 0
          W Betances (1-0) L Gettis (0-1)
          HR S. Duncan 3 (3, 2 on 2 out, 3rd off Gettis, 0 on 0 out, 8th off Happ, 1 on 1 out, 9th off Majewski) D. Russell (1, 0 on 1 out, 6th off Happ) E. Duncan (2, 0 on 0 out, 9th off Majewski)
Player of the Game Shelly Duncan 3-4 3HR 7RBI

The Yankees brought the lumber in the second game of the set as Shelly Duncan went yard three times and drove in 7 runs to lead an apt Scranton/Wilkes-Barre attack over the IronPigs for the second night in a row.

Dellin Betances pitched 8 strong innings, allowing just 1 earned run in his first outing of the year. Anthony Claggett was brought in for the ninth but faced just one batter, having a ball lined off his shin. Claggett left in severe pain, but MRI's were negative. Claggett will be unavailable for up to a week, leaving the Yankees bullpen dangerously thin.

Ramiro Pena went 5-5 with a double to help jump start the Yankee attack, but it was Eric and Shelly Duncan's big bats that carried the Yankees. The two have 5 of the Yankees 6 homeruns so far this year; Eric has two in two pinch hit at bats.
