Reincarnation of the Big Red Machine: A Cincinnati Reds Franchise

    MLB THE SHOW 09
    (Reds Radio Announcer Marty Brennaman)

Marty: And the 2-2 to Dickerson....ground ball to Utley, and this should do it, over to first, and the Philadelphia Phillies have eliminated the Red Legs 3 games to 1 in this 2010 National League Wildcard Series.

A valiant effort for the Reds, they are stopped by outstanding pitching by this Phillies club who will move on to face the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Championship Series.

After hanging in the race most of the 2009 season, and then coming back in this 2010 campaign and getting back into postseason play for the first time in 15 seasons , Dusty Baker's bunch has nothing to hang their heads about. This club has a bright future ahead of them. We"ll be back with the wrap-up on the Cincinnati Bell Reds Radio Network.

Offseason Promises To Be An Interesting One For Sure
    By:Bababooey76

    November 1, 2010

There is no question that this offseason should be an exciting one around Majors this winter. Cincinnati GM Walt Jocketty as hinted that he will not hesitate to pull the trigger on any trade or free agent signing that potentially could put the Reds into the World Series for the first time since 1990 when they swept the Oakland Athletics.

"I think without question, you have to look at everything out there that could improve your club. I think we have a lot of what we need in place with our pitching both starting and what I feel is one of the best bullpens in the National League. There is always room to improve and any GM should always be looking for a way to get better" said Jocketty.

The Reds also have a talented young nucleus of position players led by 1B Joey Votto, 2B Brandon Phillips, RF Jay Bruce, and LF Chris Dickerson who won the 2009 Rookie of the Year Award. Along with 2010 Rookie of the Year, Rule 5 pick LF Craig Matheny, the Reds look to be contenders for the foreseeable future.

The free agent market is filled with talent, led by names like Albert Pujols, Manny Ramirez, and Roy Halladay. Clubs like the Yankees, Red sox, Mets, the defending champion Dodgers and the 2009 World Series champion Cubs all look to be active players in the free agent sweepstakes.

The Reds, after record attendance the past two seasons, have money to spend and have to decide whether to re-sign free agent CF Willy Tavares and SS Alex Gonzales who is coming off a .300 plus batting year. Gonzales is a priority for Jocketty while he remains uncertain about Tavares who is looking for about $9 million a year.

      Pujols Rejects Cardinals latest offer
      By:Bababooey76

Cardinals Slugger, Albert Pujols has reportedly rejected the latest offer from the club and is exploring offers from other clubs. A team that has jumped into the thick of the bidding, surprisingly is the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Pirates GM, Neal Huntington expressed interest in landing Pujols and said both sides have had very positive communications. The Red Sox, Mets, and Giants also have been rumored to be making a play for the free agent first baseman.

St. Louis GM John Mozeliak says he is confident that his team will be able to re-sign the perennial All Star first baseman when it is all said and done. "Albert is a Cardinal. I cannot envision a scenario where Albert Pujols is not the first baseman for the St. Louis Cardinals. We are going to do whatever it takes to keep him in a Cardinal Uniform" said Mozeliak.

Manny "Dodges" LA, Signs with Mets

The New York Mets made the first big free agent signing of the 2010 off season, landing OF Manny Ramirez from the 2010 World Series Champion Dodgers. Ramirez hit .329 with 51 HR and 137 Rbi in 2010, finishing just 4 RBI short of winning the Triple Crown, and was named National League MVP.

Ramirez felt jilted by Dodgers management when they ended contract talks with the star Left Fielder in May, siting they would wait until the offseason to continue negotiations.

Ramirez went to LA in a trade from Boston in 2008 and led the Dodgers to the 2010 World Series title.

          "Papi" Inks Deal With Dodgers

The off season continues to be a busy one around the Majors. The World Champion Dodgers signed free agent First Baseman David Ortiz to a 5 yr 10.2 million dollar deal. Ortiz, who batted .275 with 29 HR and 94 RBI last season for Boston will be filling a void left in the Dodger lineup left by the departure of MVP Manny Ramirez who signed with the Mets earlier in the week.

The Red Sox are reportedly closing in on a deal to bring free agent First Baseman Albert Pujols to Boston. Pujols camp denies that the slugger is close to a deal with any club and says it is still very hopeful to reach a deal with St. Louis.

Boston lost a First Baseman, but picked up a star Catcher, signing perennial All Star Joe Mauer to a 3 year deal today. Mauer hit .321 with 9 HR and 70 RBI for the Twins last season.

Mets sign Rollins, Reyes Headed to Minnesota
              By:Bababooey76

The New York Mets, unable to come to terms with free agent shortstop, Jose Reyes, have signed Jimmy Rollins to play short for them. Rollins, a former NL MVP, hit .288 with 17 HR and 59 RBI for Philadelphia last season.

Reyes signed a 5 year deal to play shortstop for the Twins yesterday. Reyes started with the Mets in 2003 and hit .272 last season.

                Halladay to the Cubs
                By:Bababooey76

The Chicago Cubs, determined to win another World Series after winning it all in 2009, took a big step in that direction, signing free agent pitcher Roy Halladay to a 4 year/60 million dollar deal.

Halladay, unhappy in Toronto, was 7-14 with a 3.48 ERA last season with the Blue Jays who provided him with little support offensively in 2010.

"It is a great feeling. To be able to pitch for an organization like the Cubs, it is awesome and I cannot wait to get on the field" said Halladay.

Halladay will join a rotation of Carlos Zambrano, Ben Sheets, Chris Young and Ryan Dempster.

A Tradition Comes to an End

                  By:Bababooey76

The Cincinnati Reds, the only professional sports team to open every season at home annually , will no longer have that distinction starting this coming season. Major League Baseball has put an end to that tradition and will have the Reds opening up in Los Angeles to play the World Champion Dodgers in the upcoming 2011 season opener.

Bababooey76 back live in Flushing, New York where the Mets, who already have landed reigning MVP Manny Ramirez, announced the signing of free agent 1B Albert Pujols. Pujols agreeing to a 2 year deal worth 17.1 million per season.

Pujols hit .316 with 41 HR and 136 RBI with St. Louis last season. The Mets had not been talked about much in the race to sign Pujols but have added another huge name to that lineup and jump to the front as a favorite to win the 2012 World Series.

Jeter and the Yankees decide to part ways.

                        By:Bababooey76

An end of an era in the Bronx today as the Yankees and SS Derek Jeter have decided that it was time for both sides to move on. Jeter hit .286 last year with 77 RBI.

Jeter, a free agent, reportedly has had offers from the Chicago Cubs and the Philadelphia Phillies.

Yankees GM Brian Cashman said that both sides just felt that it was time to explore other options after not coming to terms on a new contract for Jeter. "Derek is a guy who I always felt would be a Yankee forever. Unfortunately what Derek wanted and needed did not fit into what we felt would be best for the organization moving into the future" said Cashman.
