    Twins Win Opener against Angels

Scott Baker pitched very well in the season opener against the Angels. He went out and went 7 innings giving up 5 hits and 1 run and struck out 4 Angel batters. He got the no decision in the Twins 2-1 opening day victory

Matt Guerrier came in the 8th inning and let up 2 hits but came out unscaved, striking out 1 batter. He would pick up the win on opening day.

In the top of the 9th Justin Morneau came up to the plate against Angels reliever Justin Bulger and hit a homerun to left field to give the Twins a 2-1 lead. Morneau went 2-for-4 in the game with the game winner.

Jon Rauch came into the game in the bottom of the 9th and shut the door. He shut down the Angels 1-2-3 in the inning, picking up his first save as a Twin. Rauch is of course filling in for Joe Nathan who is out for the entire 2010 season with the Tommy John Surgery. Twins win 2-1.

Bullpen Falls apart in Late Innings

Kevin Slowey gave the Twins another quality start Wednesday night in Anaheim. He went 6 innings giving up 2 runs. He left the game with the score tied 2-2, he got left with a no decision.

In the 7th inning Jose Mijares came in and retired the Angels 1-2-3, on just 6 pitches. But in the 8th inning it was a different story. Abreu led off the inning with a base hit then Juan Rivera hit a 2-run homerun. That would be the night for Mijares and he picked up his first loss of the year. Crain came in after the Rivera blast and let up another to Kendry Morales, which was his first hit of the season. The Angels then led 5-2. Crain would get out of the 8th after allowing another hit.

Kendry Morales watches his 2-run game-winning homerun leave the park

Joel Pineiro went 8 strong giving up 6 knocks and 2 runs and got the win Wednesday night (1-0). Brian Fuentes came into the game in the 9th and set down Mauer, Morneau, and Cuddyer in order to secure the Angels 5-2 victory. These teams will play tomorrow night for the 4th game of the series as the Twins try to win it and the Angels try to tie it up.

Nick Blackburn (0-0, 0.00) will toe the rubber against Joe Saunders (0-0, 0.00) thursday night in Anaheim.

Blackburn Gets Rocked, Twins Get Shut Out

Nick Blackburn went out trying to get the Twins a series win against the defending AL West Champions Angels, but it went all wrong in just the 2nd inning. Blackburn only lasted 4 inning letting up 10 hits and 7 runs, six of which were in the 2nd inning. He also went on to give up a run in the 4th inning and finally got taken out.

The Angels bats came alive Thursday night they picked up 16 hits in the ball game including 2 home-runs by Kendry Morales (2) and former Twin Torii Hunter (1). While Morales, Matsui, and Napoli each picked up 2 rbi's.

The real story of the game was the pitching by John Saunders. He went out and pitched 9 shut-out innings, letting up only 3 hits. Saunders only threw 84 pitches through his 9 innings of dominance.

The Twins are headed to Chicago to take on the White Sox next. Francisco Liriano (0-0, 0.00) will take on John Danks (0-0, 0.00).

              Twins Find Their Stroke
The Twins scored 4 runs in the 1st inning Friday night against the White Sox, including a 3-run homerun by Jim Thome, his first hit of the season. Micheal Cuddyer had a great night at the plate, Cuddy went 4-for-4 with a homerun and 3 rbis. Jason Kubel had the other rbi for the Twins, his first of the year.

Michael Cuddyer watches his homerun clear the wall
at U.S. Celluar field Friday night

Franciso Liriano pitched a gem last night. He went the distance, giving up 7 hits and only 1 run, which was a homerun by Carlos Quentin his 3rd of the year. The homerun came with one out in the 9th inning. Nonetheless, Twins get the win 7-1.

Tomorrow night, Twins ace Scott Baker (0-0, 1.29) will make his 2nd start against the White Sox 5th starter Freddy Garcia (0-0, 0.00)

                Baker Shuts Out Chi Sox

Scott Baker was flawless Saturday night against the White Sox for his 2nd straight start. He pithched a complete game shutout, and picked up the win. All season firsts. The Twins won 4-0.

Kubel started the scoring in the 4th inning with a double that scored Mauer. Then in the 6th Mauer hit a sac fly that scored Punto. The third run of the game came on a base hit up the middle by Hudson that scored Punto. Cuddyer added a late insurance run with an rbi in the 9th.

The Twins look for the sweep Sunday afternoon when Carl Pavano (1-0, 1.13) goes up against White Sox ace Jake Peavy (1-0, 1.00).
