I am getting good results but have just had some bad games lately. It seems when I give up some hits, my control gets worse.

I know the game summaries are brief right now and don't show a lot of detail, but that will change once I make it to the Bigs.

    As always, feedback is appreciated.
If you're open to suggestions, I would try PsychoBulk's "Perfect" sliders. I've been using them since September, and they have given me the most realistic games I have had, and I got the game on rel day. With my RTTS pitcher, before giving these sliders a shot, I never really had a truely bad pitching performance. I mean, like young Brayden, I did occassionally get sent to the showers early, but never saw the CPU live up to its potential. First few games, I did ok, then, my just called up Orioles pitcher got his first start. Against the Yankees. It inspired my avatar pic what happened in 1 1/3 innings... Since using these, been on the wrong end of a no-no, pitched my first no-no ever (Started with the game in 08), and the CPU pulled a perfect out of its hat. Went from averaging 7-11 walks a season to 60-80. Had my strikeouts go down from a mindblowing 450 per year down to a more realistic (for Nolan Ryan :P ) 300 or so per year. Its hard to describe what or how the dynamics change with these sliders, but its been spot on. As close to real baseball as this version of The Show can do, in my opinion.

Now, to the man of the hour.... congratz on the call up. Welcome to the Show! Looking forward to more of your great writing. I can't login every day, or as this week has proven, even once a week is hard, so I've been looking forward to getting to my company home terminal in Tacoma to get caught up.

    Keep up the great work!!

EDIT: Update: Whine!!! CRY!!!! No update....... DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUDE!!!!! I'm like where is Brayden, then I'm I like Dude, where's my car... (ok, yeah, Ashton Kutcher for the FAIL! )

Rays call up Brayden Wiley from Triple-A Durham
20-year-old prospect was 8-6 for Bulls

      Tampa Bay
      (AP)

The Tampa Bay Rays have announced that they have called up Brayden Wiley, a 20-year-old pitching prospect, from Triple-A affiliate Durham.

To make room for Wiley, the Rays sent down left handed pitcher Jake McGee.

Wiley was drafted in the second round of the 2009 MLB draft by the Atlanta Braves. He was acquired by Tampa Bay in a mid season trade last year that sent Dan Wheeler to the Braves. The Rays also got relief pitcher Craig Kimbrel and shortstop Edward Salcedo.

Wiley was 8-6 at Durham this season, with a 2.22 ERA. He led the International League in innings pitched, strikeouts, shutouts, complete games and WHIP.

In two minor league seasons, Wiley compiled a 19-9 record with an ERA of 2.15. He represented the USA in two consecutive Futures Games, and made the All-Star team twice. He is currently ranked the #2 prospect in the Rays organization and #24 overall by Baseball America.

Andrew Friedman, the Rays' GM, told MLB.com that Wiley was the real deal and that the organization was ready to give him a shot.

"He'll immediately be in our rotation," said Friedman. "He dominated the minors and had nothing else to prove. He is young, but I believe he has what it takes to be great."

An AL East scout, who spoke anonymously, thought the Rays are rushing Wiley.

"He might be ready, he might not," said the scout. "Time will tell, but less than two years in the minors is not enough time. I kind of think he'll get eaten alive."

Wiley knows there will be doubters, but that doesn't deter him.

"I'm ready," said Wiley. "I am so thankful for this opportunity. This has been my dream since I was a kid, and I am just blessed to be living out my dream with such a great organization."

Wiley will get his first start on July 19 on the road against the Detroit Tigers.

Re: Road to the Show: Brayden Wiley, LHP

"Dad, I have to tell you something," said Brayden.

        "What is it son?"

"Well, you better pack a bag for you and mom. Sounds like you guys will be flying to Detroit in a few days," answered Brayden.

        "Detroit? Why?" asked his dad.

"Because my -- our dream has come true! I got called up to the Big Leagues! I am going to be in the rotation right away and I'll get my first start against the Tigers on the 19th!"

With that, laughter came over the other end. His dad was ecstatic.

"Son, I am so proud of you. I can't wait to see you pitch!" said his dad.

"Thanks, dad. It's an unreal feeling."

They continued to talk for the next 15 minutes, with his dad giving him advice on how to pitch against the Tigers.

Wiley wins first career start as Rays beat Tigers, 4-2
          Wiley impressive in debut

          July 19, 2011 -- Detroit, Michigan

Brayden Wiley took a depth breath -- and decided that he'd just enjoy the moment.

He was on the mound for the Tampa Bay Rays, making his first career start. As he threw his warm up pitches in the bottom of the first inning, he realized that all of the hard work, all the hours spent training, all the countless hours spent watching film -- had all paid off. He was living his dream.

Wiley was impressive in the first inning, as he struck out the side.

          Johnny Damon, have a seat.

          Carlos Guillen, grab some pine.

Magglio Ordonez, better luck next time.

Wiley finished the night with 6.1 innings pitched. He gave up 7 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 7. He did not walk a batter. He picked up the win.

The Rays won the game 4-2, putting them at 55-39 on the season. They trail the Yankees by only one game in the AL East.

"The kid is special," said Rays' third baseman Evan Longoria. "He's got great mound presence. His fastball was fantastic and his secondary pitches looked unhittable."

"It's going to be exciting to watch him pitch every fifth day."

Christian Guzman led the Rays offensively by going 2-5 with a double and 2 RBIs.

Joe Maddon, the Rays' Manager, said that Wiley was extremely impressive.

"He's competitive. He didn't want to come out of the game, but after 90 pitches, I felt he'd gone long enough," said Maddon. "He has great stuff and his attitude is always positive."

After the game, Wiley was all smiles.

"It's just such an amazing feeling," said Wiley. "I could have gotten shelled today and it wouldn't have mattered. I mean, my dream came true today and it's icing on the cake that I pitched well and got the win. Now I can set expectations for myself, but today was just about enjoying the moment."

Wiley will get his next start next Tuesday in Toronto against the Blue Jays.

Rays beat Blue Jays 6-3; Wiley now 2-0
Rays are now 60-41, tied with Yankees for first

            July 26, 2011 -- Toronto, Canada

            So far, so good.

Brayden Wiley made his second big league start last night and was again impressive as the Rays handed the Blue Jays their fifth straight loss by a score of 6-3.

Tampa Bay is now 60-41 and tied the Yankees for first place in the AL East.

Wiley pitched himself out of many jams. The rookie lefty finished the night pitching 7 innings. He gave up a whopping 11 hits but only allowed 3 runs. He struck out 10 and walked 1. He is now 2-0 with a 3.37 ERA on the season. He has 17 strikeouts and 1 walk in 13.1 innings pitched.

"I gave up a lot of hits," said Wiley after the win. "Fortunately, I was able to pitch myself out of a couple of big jams. Striking out Snyder and Lind with the bases loaded in the fifth was huge for me, and then Evan made a great play at third to end the inning."

The most damage was done by Blue Jays' right fielder Jose Bautista, who hit 2 home runs in the game and had all 3 of Toronto's RBIs. Bautista hit a 412-foot home run in the second and a 399-foot blast in the sixth.

"With a hitter like that, if you leave the ball up in the zone, that's what will happen," said Wiley. "Lesson learned."

Christian Guzman finished the night 3-4 for Tampa Bay, while Evan Longoria was 2-4 with 4 RBIs.

Asked after the game on what he thought about the young lefty's performance, Rays' Manager Joe Maddon said, "He gave up a lot of hits but he found ways to get himself out of trouble. If you can do that, who cares how many hits you give up?"

Wiley will make his next scheduled start in Boston against the Red Sox on Monday, August 1st.

Rays beat Red Sox at Fenway, 2-1
              Wiley pitches well, gets no-decision

              August 1, 2011 -- Boston, Massachusetts

The Tampa Bay Rays beat the Boston Red Sox 2-1 last night at Fenway Park.

Making his third start of his career, Brayden Wiley was in control for most of the game, but was not helped by the little run support that the Rays' offense gave him.

Wiley pitched 7 strong innings, allowing 6 hits and 1 run. He struck out 6 and walked 1, lowering his season ERA to 2.66.

              He received a no-decision.

Wiley gave up his only run on a Kevin Youkilis home run in the fifth inning. The 414-foot blast had plenty of room to clear the Green Monster for Youkilis' 15th home run on the season.

"It was a curve ball that didn't really break," said Wiley after the game. "My release point was bad and he was just sitting on it. When it left the bat, I knew it was gone."

That run would be the only damage the Red Sox would do offensively, however.

Wiley strikes out JD Drew in the fourth inning

The game was tied up in the ninth inning when Rays' first baseman Carlos Pena sent a Matt Capps' fastball over the right field wall to make the score 2-1.

It would end that way, as Octavio Dotel slammed the door shut on the Red Sox in the bottom of the ninth and picked up his 33rd save of the season.

                Yankees beat Rays, 8-4
Wiley roughed up in second consecutive no-decision

                August 7, 2011 -- Tampa Bay, Florida

Brayden Wiley's first three starts of his Major League career went pretty smoothly, and then he ran into the Yankees.

The rookie lefty was touched up for 4 runs in 5 innings of work, allowing 7 hits while striking out 4 and walking 3. He raised his season ERA to 3.55.

"I didn't pitch well," said Wiley after the game. "I can't throw some of the pitches I threw today to Big League hitters, especially to Jeter and Posada. That's what happens when you get behind in the count."

He gave up home runs to Derek Jeter and Jorge Posada.

Wiley left the game in the sixth inning down 4-0, but the Rays came storming back in the bottom of the sixth inning. Evan Longoria hit a two-run home run off of Yankees' starter CC Sabathia, scoring Jason Bartlett.

In the seventh, the Rays tied the game at 4 after Elijah Dukes hit a double that scored two runs.

The game would stay nodded at 4 until the top of the ninth inning, when the Yankees loaded the bases for Posada. On the first pitch of the at-bat, JP Howell hung a curve ball that Posada crushed for a grand slam.

The Rays are now four games behind the Yankees in the AL East.

                  Hey guys,

Well, I think I am going to take a hiatus from this for a while. My plan is to cook up a new story and be ready to bring a new RTTS once 2011 hits in March. I am not saying I'm done with this one, but I have my eye set on MLB 11: The Show.

As always, I welcome your feedback. You can bet I'll have another one of these going in a couple of short months.

                        Thanks guys.

The next one will be better. I love to write!

This one was done pretty quickly and without much thought. The next one will involve a different character with a different story and it won't be a pitcher.

Stay tuned, I'm cooking up ideas right now.

Hey Apostle, I just wanted to say that I read the entire story just today and had a lot of fun reading it. Excellent writing! The game summaries weren't that great (but it's hard to write that) but the in-between stuff detailing the story was awesome! Excellent story; Wiley had a great personality and I really felt for the guy, even though he's completely not real! The best parts were when he got pissed (telling off Boras and his agent) and when Friedman hung up on Cashman. Hehehehe.

Anyway, excellent story. This might inspire me to write my own. I'll definitely credit you for the inspiration as well.

Just caught up on this, too bad we wont see Wiley make a post season run in the pros. Good luck with the new story.

Just read through this today. Glad to see a Washington kid do so well. I am orginally from Boise but live in Spokane. It was great to see you take on Ferris in the State Championship.

Bummer deal that the M's passed on you though, but looks like it was meant to be.

Good luck with your next storyline.

I so wish I had a PS3. I am not sure I can handle the disappointment of another 2k Series flop. I have been considering looking at a Baseball Sim for my PC.
