3/31/2011--This game was nothing like what was expected of these two teams coming into opening day 2011. The Atlanta Braves had been touted all pre-season as having the best pitching staff, the best bullpen, and good bats. It looks as though the Washington nationals have some decent hitters also, as they shellac 17 hits off of the Atlanta Braves at home. Adam Laroche led the way for the Nats as he went 2-for-4 with a homerun and 3 rbi's. Livan Hernandez went 6 innings giving up 2R's on 5 hits, walking 2 and striking out 2. These two teams have tomorrow off and then face off on Saturday, April 2nd. John Lannan (0-0) will lead the Nats against the Braves starter Tim Hudson (0-0).

LaRcohe's Two HR's Surges Nats To Victory

4/2/2011--The Washington Nationals have started the season doing the right things. Timely hitting with runners on base, key strikeouts in pressure packed moments on the mound, and making sure Adam Laroche gets to see a fastball. LaRoche follows up his oprning day Player Of The Game, with yet another one. This time he hits two homeruns and drove in all four of the Nats runs. Laroche now leads the league very early in the season with 3 homeruns and seven RBI's. John Lannan (1-0) threw well for the vocturs as he went 7 strong innings allowing on 1ER on 4H. Drew Storen came in and threw a scoreless ninth for his second save in as many games. The series concludes tomorrow as the Braves (0-2) will start Derek Lowe (0-0) against the Nats (2-0) Jordan Zimmerman (0-0). Can the Nats complete the sweep or will the Braves have redemption early in the season?

Nationals Tie Game In 9th: Walk Off In 10th To Sweep Braves

4/3/2011--The Washington Nationals are makingthe beginning of the 2011 season look fun. For the first time in 3 years the nationals are able to sweep the Atlanta braves. This game looked bleak as the nats were down 5-3 in the 8th, but jason Werth was able to spark a rally with his first home run of the season. In the bottom of the 9th, down 5-4, pinch runner Alex Cora was able to score on pinch hitter, Ivan Rodriguez's single to extend the game int extra innings. There a leadoff double by Ryan Zimmerman, a sacrifice bunt by Adam LaRoche, and a sacrifice fly from Mike Morse were all that was needed for the Nats to start 2011 off 3-0. Wilson Ramos was player of the game for the Nats as he went 3-for-4, HR, 2B, R, 2RBI. The Nationals have tomorrow off and then start a 6 game road trip against the Marlins. Jason Marquis (0-0) will afce off against the Marlins starter, Chris Volstad (0-0).

Marquis, National's Win Fourth Straight; Marlins Record First Loss

4/5/2011--The Washingston nationals do not seem as though they should be undefeated this year, but have done everything right to be in those circumstances. The Nats combination of good starting pitching and timely hitting has put them into first place early in the year in the NL East. Adam Laroche has 8 rbi's through his teams first 4 games, and Drew Storen has 3 saves. The Nationals and the Marlins contunue their series tomorrow as Tom Gorzelanny (0-0) faces off against Javier Vazquez (0-0).

Gaby Sanchez Ends Nats' Streak With 3-Run Walkoff In 9th.

4/6/2011--The Washington Nationals knew this run could not last forever. The problem did not come to them in having lost the game, but the way in which they lost it. With two outs in the 8th, the nats were not able to hold the lead, and Gaby Sanchez ended it all with a 3-run HR to walk off. he series will conclude tomorrow as Livan Hernandez (1-0) 3.00 ERA faces off against Josh Johnson (1-0) 0.00 ERA.

Morse's 1st Inning Grand Slam Pushes Nationals To Series Win Over Marlins

4/7/2011--The Washington Nationals were again able to use timely hitting, this time a 1st inning grand slam, to propel them selves past the Marlins and come out with the series win. Michael Morse hit a 1-2 fastball to the upper deck in left, and that was more than enough for the Nats' win. Livan Hernandez (2-0) went 7 1/3 innings giving up only 1 run on 3 hits. The first hit of the game did not happen until the top of the 7th against Hernandez. Josh Johnson (1-1) was not nearly as effective as Hernandez as he only went 5 innings giving up 4 runs of 4 hits. The nationals will next play division opponent The Ney York Mets. John Lannan (1-0) 1.29 ERA will face off against Jon Niese (0-0) 3.00 ERA to start this weekend series.

Mets Battle Back In 8th To Tie; Walk Off iIn 9th Against Nationals

4/8/2011---The New York Mets did a great job of getting on base, and making sure nationals were always challenged by their small ball style of baseball. The Mets bunted for a hit three times, and sacrificed 4 times, to get the right men in the right position to score. The Mets were able to rally to score two in the 8th and one in the ninth to come from behind against the Nationals. Jon Niese (0-0) looked good for the Mets as he went 6 innings giving up just 2 runs on 7 hits with 4 strikeouts. These two teams face off again tomorrow as Jordan Zimmermann (0-0), 6.00ERA faces off against Chris Young (0-0), 1.29 ERA.

Jordan Zimmerman Exceptional, Danny Espinosa drives in 4 in Shutout of Mets

4/9/2011--Jordan Zimmermann and the Washington Nationals just looked plain dominant in their victory over the New York mets, 7-0. Zimmermann was htting all of the right spots with tough pitches, and getting the calls as he went 7 innings and only allowed 3 hits. The Nationals starting pitching is really stepping up without their 2nd year powerhouse, Stephen Strasburg, and if they can continue this dominance could be a very unlikely contender for the NL East title. Danny Espinosa had a 3-run double in teh 4th, and added his 4th RBI of the game in the 8th. The Nats and Mets will finish their series tomorrow as Jason Marquis (1-0) 1.29ERA faces off against Chris Capuano (0-0) 9.00 ERA.
