    Offseason Recap:

Clearly, for at least this season, the Reds shattered their reputation of being a quiet offseason team. They made the first major trade of the 2012 season, and, arguably, the most controversial. They also acquired one of the best left handed relievers in the National League in Sean Marshall, as well as one of the best closers on the market in Ryan Madson. They added Ryan Ludwick for a platoon role with left fielder Chris Heisey, and added solid infield depth with Wilson Valdez and Willie Harris. They also gave their rotation quality depth with Jeff Francis and Brett Tomko, and gave their bullpen depth as well. As for losses, they didn't lose as much as their NL Central competitors, but they did lose a moderately big bat in Ramon Hernandez to Free Agency, where he was signed by the Colorado Rockies. They also lost a potentially good reliever in Dontrelle Willis (they were using him as a starter, whereas the Phillies will be using him for a relief role) and minor bats Edgar Renteria and Fred Lewis. In trades, they lost potential all-stars in Yonder Alonso and Yosami Grandal, an up and coming reliever in Brad Boxberger, and a pitcher fallen on hard times in Edinson Volquez, as well as several other lower minor leaguers.

Re: The Big Red Machine All Over Again: A Cincinnati Reds Franchise (MLB 2k12)

    2012 Goals:

My goal for the 2012 campaign will be to continue the 'All In' mindset the Reds have adopted as of late, by making aggressive trades and signings, but staying within the Reds' assigned payroll. The main goal, however, is to use this new found talent to get wins and go to the World Series.

    Top Players (in-game rankings):

    Hitters:

    Joey Votto (95 overall)
    Brandon Phillips (89 overall)
    Jay Bruce (88 overall)
    Drew Stubbs (83 overall)
    Chris Heisey (78 overall)

    Starting Pitchers:

    Mat Latos (88 overall)
    Johnny Cueto (87 overall)
    Roy Oswalt (83 overall)
    Javier Vasquez (82 overall)
    Homer Bailey (81 overall)

    Relief Pitchers:

    Ryan Madson (85 overall)
    Aroldis Chapman (83 overall)
    Sean Marshall (82 overall)
    Nick Masset (81 overall)
    Sam Lecure (81 overall)

    Technicalities:

-I will be playing all 162 games, plus postseason games if applicable, with no Spring Training, beginning on March 6th.
-There will be no games on March 7 or 8.
-I will play one game per day
-The All Star game will be played, and I will be the National League. The Home Run Derby will only be played if someone from the Reds is in it.
-The trade deadline will be in place.
    -Injuries will be turned on.
    -Errors will be turned on.
-I will be playing on the All-Star difficulty, or a custom slider difficulty (if I find a good one on here, suggestions are appreciated.)
-Around the league news will be posted once per day.
-Player Stats will be updated daily, as per the initial post.
-Daily game posts will be provided, with reports and stats.
-At the end of the year, all Playoff teams will be announced, as well as winners of major awards and end of year stats for Reds players.

      Day One News and Transactions

Today, the Reds signed free agent pitcher Roy Oswalt to a 3 year/18.6 million dollar deal. They also signed free agent pitcher Javier Vasquez to a 1 year/5 million dollar contract. In order to free up payroll for these signings, The Reds traded Bronson Arroyo for minor leaguer Esmil Roders of the Rockies. As a result of this, Mike Leake was sent to the Bullpen.

In their opening series, the Reds square off against the Miami Marlins in a 3 game series. The new-look marlins are a formidable team, being ranked 91 in pitching, 82 in hitting, and 91 overall. We will see how the Reds can manage against them.

This was the definition of a pitcher's duel. Johnny Cueto pitched a gem, allowing just 3 hits, as well as allowing 1 walk, while striking out 12 Miami Marlins hitters. He allowed 0 runs while pitching, and has 1 earned run to his credit, due to Ryan Madson allowing an inherited runner to score. Cueto pitched a solid 7.1 innings. Ryan Madson came in, gave up 2 hits, allowed 1 inherited runner to score (0 earned runs) and recorded his first Blown Save of the season, as he could not keep up the lead, in 1.2 innings of work. Chapman came in during extras, and was nearly perfect, striking out 1 hitter and allowing 1 hit in 1 inning of work. Chapman got the win. The Marlins' opening day starter, Anibal Sanchez, had a big day too, allowing just 1 hit over 7 innings. For the Reds, Joey Votto hit a 7th inning solo homer, and Jay Bruce ended the game with a big walkoff home run.

        Final Score: 2-1 (10 inn.)
        Player of the Game: Johnny Cueto (7.1 IP, 4H, 1R, 1BB, 12K)

Nice win against the Marlins man...those walkoffs are just so rewarding. So I was wondering, weren't the Reds considering moving Chapman to SP? I feel like I heard chatter about that and I was wondering if you might try to do that at some point?

Yeah, I think the latest, though, with Bill Bray's injury (irl) they will keep him in the 'pen, at least for this year. Though I will most likely test him out as a starter as the year progresses. Also, Game 2 will be up momentarily (bats still cold)

                Game Log: Day 2

                Game 2

                Cincinnati Starter- Mat Latos
                Miami Starter- Mark Buerhle

The bats were still a bit cold tonight, with the Reds only culminating 2 runs off of 6 hits throughout the game. Joey Votto and Drew Stubbs scored the only 2 runs in the game, for both teams, on solo homeruns. Mark Buerhle had a strong outing for the South Beach Sluggers, going 7 innings, allowing 5 hits and 2 runs. However, Mat Latos pitched a shutout gem. He pitched 7 innings, allowed no runs off of 5 hits, while striking out 7 hitters. Aroldis Chapman came in for the eighth and did a masterful job, with a perfect inning, striking out one. Ryan Madson, however, stole the relief spotlight. He bounced back from his blown save in a big fashion, allowing 0 runs on 0 hits, while striking out 3 hitters in 1 inning of work. Hitters were completely baffled at the plate.

                Final Score: 2-0 Reds
Player of the Game: Mat Latos (7 IP, 5H, 0R, 7K)
