BLUE JAYS HIRE FORMER YANKS SKIPPER

      T1_1027_girardi.jpg

APR 4,2013 - The Toronto Blue Jays announced today the hiring of former Yankees skipper Joe Girardi as Farm Director. Girardi was fired by the Yankees after last season, following an early exit from the playoffs with a loss in the ALDS to the Texas Rangers. Girardi will oversee what is looked at as one of the richest, most talented farm systems in baseball. Girardi's ability to work with young players and also provide solid leadership were reasons given for his hiring by GM Alex Anthopoulos, along with his knowledge of the AL East, having managed the Yankees for the past 6 seasons.

This signing shows that the Blue Jays intend on being serious contenders not just for 2013, but for many seasons to come.

11-1 final score. Halladay throws a complete game - gives up homerun to rookie Will Myers as the only real blemish on the day. Bautista, JPA, Brent and Edwin all go deep.

Game 2/3 Thread. Decided I wanted to play the first full series of the season and get to know my team a bit. Unfortunately my offense didn't show up for games 2 & 3 - lost 2-0 in Game 2 - Will Myers went deep again off Brandon Morrow and 4-2 in game 3 as Jake Peavy pitched well but had a tough 6th inning. Arencibia provided a solo HR as did Rasmus.

Brett Lawrie is hitting .476 after the first 3 games and steals 2 bases in Game 2

                    I appreciate the good words.

It's one of the minor league parks - I would prefer to see the option they had years ago with MVP Baseball where you could build your own stadium, but I'm personally tired of Rogers Centre/Skydome. I refer to the ball diamond as "the yard" and would like my team's home stadium to reflect that image.

The Jays faced Jeremy Hellickson in Game 1 vs the Rays. We went into the series 2 Games behind the Rays in the AL East - a good series to put our stamp on the season.

Rasmus celebrates with Garth Iorg as he rounds the bases hitting the go ahead HR

Game 2 - Peavy beats Matt Moore, Encarnacion and Bautista go deep

Game 3 - Shawn Hill faces Wade Davis. Not a real pitching duel - both pitchers were out of the game by the 6th - Hill stuck around long enough to get the win.

Brett Lawrie gets his first start at SS as Hechevarria continues to struggle

The Toronto Blue Jays have sent struggling SS Adeiny Hechevarria to AAA and purchased the contract of INF Jayson Nix whom they picked up off waivers from the NY Yankees at the end of Spring Training. This is Nix's second go around with the Blue Jays. Brett Lawrie will play SS for now with Nix and Ian Stewart splitting time at 3B. Blue Jays have been linked to Pittsburgh SS Clint Barmes and Houston INF Tyler Greene

I thought about that, tried Lawrie at SS for one game while Hech was still on the roster and he played very well - range not the best but not bad. Going to try a few things until either Goins or Hech are ready to take the position and stay
