Solid move. Anytime you can add a young LHP to your farm system you are doing something right. With the extra payroll it should help you sign some guy's or maybe just target 1 bigger name to give Stanton some motivation to stay around.

It clears a lot of budget room for us, and that's pretty huge. Matzek should be a pretty nice addition to the farm. He'll be a solid pitcher for us to say the least. Also, signing a big name FA would really depend on two things for me. 1. It wouldn't be that realistic, since almost all big names FA's wouldn't want to go to Miami from being feared about being traded away (thanks to the Blue Jays/Marlins trade this offseason) . 2. I'm not really sure if they'll be out there. It should be interesting to say the least moving forward. Thanks for checking in and thanks for the comment!

Great move. Do you plan on building around Stanton or do you think you'll be trading him away?

I'm mainly looking to build around Stanton. He's an awesome player to use, and you can really see his presence this year. For right now, I have no interest in trading him. His bat and glove are way too valuable to lose. Stanton will always remain a Marlin, the key will be plugging in players around him. Thanks for checking in and thanks for the comment!

Hello, and welcome baseball fans, the 2013 MLB Draft is now underway. The Astros are now on the clock with the first pick in the draft. Each team will have five minutes on the clock. Begin.

Rudd, Dewitt, and Stanton are all at a desk watching the draft unfold. The Marlins have the seventh pick in the draft. Since it's a off-day for the Marlin's Giancarlo Stanton was invited.

Listen, the main guy we're after right now is Garrett Goodwin. He's had a few injuries, but he can be a dominate pitcher on the field. I think Stanton worked out with him a few times.

Yeah, he's a good guy, but I doubt he falls to us.

With the first overall pick in the 2013 MLB Draft, the Houston Astros select Starting Pitcher, Benny Pool, Vanderbilt University.

No real surprise there, they wanted him since day one.

Three more picks pass, and Goodwin still hasn't been picked yet.

I'm getting a call from Goodwin. Should I answer it?

With the fifth overall pick in the 2013 MLB draft, the Cleveland Indians select Starting Pitcher, Andy Dunn, Wisconsin University.

Stanton comes back into the room, still on the phone.

Goodwin says the Red Soxs called Garrett and asked him if he wanted to play for them. He said, the only team he wanted to get drafted by was the Marlins. He also said he wouldn't sign a contract with Boston. The Red Soxs are on the board right now. It looks like we'll be able to nab Goodwin.

That's good news for us. What did you do to convince him? You bribe him or something?

I guess we're just good friends or sometime. I don't know, but he does want a huge contract. Let's worry about that later though.

With the sixth pick in the 2013 MLB Draft, the Boston Red Soxs select First Baseman, Luis Casto, Grossmont High School, California.

S.I. did a article calling the M's the next Young Nats referring to them building around a rotation of top end arms. Looks like you are going the same route. Hopefully some your later pics can develop into some solid options at the plate. The Marlins have some other pretty good OF prospects in C. Yelch, M. Ozuna and J. Marsnick so with them Stanton and your deal getting Olt, you have a nice foundation to continue building on.

In regards to FA's you are correct, nobody is going to want to sign a long term deal, but maybe you will be able to add veteran SP and a better 1B option via 1 or 2 year deals.

Pitching is a huge key to winning games in baseball, so my plan was to really stock-up on young arms. Since we already have an elite prospect in Fernandez, he would be a good start to build around. The outfield isn't too bad for the future, as Yelich and Stanton are going to be a fun outfield to play with. Welcome back baseball fans. Yesterday was a very exciting day for many young prospects. However, today we finish up the rest of the draft. Each team will get four minutes on the clock. The Astros have the first pick in the second round and are now on the clock.

Rudd and Dewitt are at the Marlins desk, this time without Stanton. While the Marlins got the guy they wanted in the first round, they're still looking to make another aggressive draft pick.

So, who are we eying for the second round? There's a few interesting prospect, who have first round potential still on the board.

We're just going to sit back and relax today. We'll pick who comes to us.

Alright. If that's the case, we'll do just that.

With the thirty-first overall pick in the 2013 MLB Draft, the Houston Astros select Starting Pitcher, Tim Yamada, Japan

I kinda miss not having Stanton around here. I miss his energy.

Yeah, we should probably thank him for Goodwin. I think they're pretty good friends.

He'll have fun playing for the Marlins, don't worry.

Four picks later, and the Marlins where on the clock.

Alright so we pretty much have two choices right here. P.J. Kirkpatrick is a guy we scouted, who is very similar to Goodwin. Good fastball, good change-up, struggles with his other pitches. Decent command, decent volcity. However, we could nab a catcher, who I was really impressed by, named Scott Gaspar, great arm, decent bat. Great defensive catcher, and could be way better than Brantly would ever be.

It doesn't take much to be better than Brantly.

After a few seconds of thinking.

I'd go with Gaspar, catchers are hard to come by, and that's probably one of our biggest future needs.
