    Pittsburgh Pirates at Indianapolis Devils

    Pittsburgh (8-8)200000000262
    Indianapolis (8-8)100200001471
    W: Chad Billingsley (3-0, 3.00) L: Justin Wilson (0-3, 3.74) S: Jose Veras (3, 4.26)

Despite allowing a lot of baserunners, the Devils pitching staff only surrendered two runs to the Pirates. Timely hitting benefited Indianapolis, as they scored four runs on only seven hits. Omar Infante had the biggest hit, a two-out, 2 RBI single in the fourth inning.

    W: Barry Zito (2-0, 1.88) L: Charlie Morton (2-2, 5.04) S: Jose Veras (4, 3.68)

Barry Zito dominated once again, pitching eight scoreless innings, and striking out six Pirates. Gregor Blanco broke the tie in the 6th inning with his 3rd home run of the year, and Alberto Callaspo added more insurance in the next inning with his team-leading 14th RBI of the season.

    Pittsburgh (8-10)020000000251
    Indianapolis (10-8)00203031x9130
    W: John Lannan (1-1, 4.37) L: Jeff Locke (2-1, 3.08)

After falling behind early after a Russell Martin home run, the Devils came roaring back with 9 unanswered runs. Neil Walker had his best game of the season, going 3-5 with 2 homers and 5 RBIs. Indianapolis now improves to 10-8, good for 2nd place in the NL Central. Unfortunately, they are still 4 games behind the red-hot Reds, who lead the MLB with a 14-4 record.

      Devils at Padres |
      Apr 25, 2014123456789ExtrasRHE
      Indianapolis (10-9)2101000000 0 0 0 04100
      San Diego (7-12)0000400000 0 0 0 15111
      W: Nick Vincent (1-1, 1.65) L: David Hernandez (1-1, 3.38)

It looked like Jeff Niemann would continue his fantastic season with another win, but San Diego tied the game in the 5th. In the 13th inning, Indianapolis nearly took the lead on a base hit to the outfield, but CF Alexi Amarista made a perfect throw to home plate to save the game. Finally, in the 14th inning, the Devils cracked, and allowed the Padres to win.

      Indianapolis (11-9)0000100056141
      San Diego (7-13)000000000042
      W: Chris Narveson (1-3, 6.63) L: Cory Luebke (2-2, 4.88)

For the first time this year, Chris Narveson pitched very well, striking out 9 Padres over 7 scoreless innings. The Devils had a very quiet offense until the ninth when they padded their lead with 5 insurance runs.

      Apr 27, 2014123456789RHE
      Indianapolis (11-10)0000011103100
      San Diego (8-13)010000300480
      W: Jake Odorizzi (1-1, 6.75) L: Matt Reynolds (0-2, 5.00) S: Huston Street (6, 0.00)

The Devils offense finally woke up in the 6th inning, but Matt Reynolds and Francisco Rodriguez could not hold the lead when they replaced Chad Billingsley in the 7th. The two relievers combined to walk 4 batters and give up 3 runs in just one inning.

Austin Jackson will rejoin the team in the next series against the Dodgers. A.J. Pollock has struggled with a .154 average this year, and he will be sent to AAA. With Jackson, the new lineups will look like this:

      vs. RHP
      1. Suzuki RF
      2. Jackson CF
      3. Walker 2B
      4. Thole C
      5. Callaspo 3B
      6. Moreland 1B
      7. Blanco LF
      8. Cozart SS

      vs. LHP
      1. Jackson CF
      2. Suzuki RF
      3. Walker 2B
      4. Callaspo 3B
      5. Sanchez 1B
      6. Maldonado C
      7. Infante LF
      8. Cozart SS

        Indianapolis (11-11)000220000480
        W: Zack Greinke (2-3, 2.19) L: Barry Zito (2-1, 3.72) S: Steve Cishek (1, 3.48)

Barry Zito was tagged for 5 runs in the first inning, and although the Devils made the game close with a 4-4 performance from Neil Walker, the bad first inning was too much to overcome.

Los Angeles Dodgers at Indianapolis Devils
        Apr 29, 2014123456789RHE
        Los Angeles (15-8)000002020480
        Indianapolis (11-12)001001100370
        W: Matt Garza (3-1, 3.21) L: Jon Rauch (0-1, 1.74) S: Kenley Jansen (1, 2.08)

John Lannan was nearly perfect until the 6th, when Hanley Ramirez gave the Dodgers the lead with a 2-run home run. Indianapolis would take the lead on an RBI single by Ichiro, but Jon Rauch allowed a costly homer to Matt Kemp in the next inning, allowing L.A. to win the game.

        Indianapolis (12-12)10010002x470
        W: Chris Leroux (2-0, 1.29) L: Ronald Belisario (0-1, 4.05) S: Jose Veras (5, 2.61)

The Devils and Dodgers played another very tight game, but this time, the home team came out on top. The Devils found themselves behind in the 8th inning, but Alberto Callaspo ended his slump at the plate with a go-ahead home run. Jose Veras easily closed the game, and Indianapolis avoided being swept.
