Cubs drop 3rd game, series
The Cubs lost their first series of the year to the Reds, as the offense was stymied by the Reds hurlers. "The pitching was there, but we need more consistency from our offense if we want to go places" said Sandberg after the game.

Cubs take first from Brewers, first on road
The Cubs opened up the first road trip of the year on a good note, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the first, never relinquishing it (nor adding on). "It always feels good to go out on the road and win, but the first road game of the year is very important" said Cubs manager [Ryne] Sandberg after the game.

Cubs drop 2nd of set, can't muster any offense against Peralta
In his second start of the year, Willy Peralta shut down the Cubs for eight innings. Peralta was backed by terrific defense (only 2 strikeouts), and the Cubs made weak contact all game.

Cubs explode for 4 runs in 10th, take first road series of the year.
The Cubs and Brewers played an evenly matched game so to speak for the first nine, but 3 homers in the 10th (one by Jeff Woodson, his second of the day).
"Any time you win a series, it's a plus, but when you can do it on the road against a divisional opponent, there's something added."

The Cubs could muster all of 3 hits, the big one being a 2 run home run by Baez in the 5th, while the Cardinals just plain hit better in this one.
