After The Draft: The Career Of Casey Benjamin (MLB 15 The Show)

    After The Draft:
    The Career Of Casey Benjamin
    (MLB 15 The Show)

Casey at the 2013 Topps Showcase

A big strong kid with a sweet stroke and a fabulous glove, 18 year old second baseman Casey Benjamin was quickly becoming an Iowa prep legend, and when it was he who led Clear Lake to their first ever state championship in 2013, his status was cemented, this kid had "IT" he had what it takes to make it, all the way to the big leagues.
Less than a month later he was off, drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the second round of the 2013 MLB draft, Benjamin was headed to the Gulf Coast League, his first stop on the way to The Show.
The path however is never quite that easy. A disappointing first year was followed by a devastating knee injury the following spring. Positive it couldn't get any worse, Benjamin couldn't believe his ears when he received the call from Pirates GM Neal Huntington in early November informing him of his release. Suddenly, Clear Lake seemed like ages ago. Disillusioned, Benjamin contemplated quitting baseball, and going back to school. Continuing his rehab back home at Clear Lake, Casey decided to give it one more go. He worked his tail off to get healthy, and when his agent called in early January to tell him that he had workouts scheduled with the Phillies, Rangers, and Orioles, Casey was thrilled. Less than a month later, Casey Benjamin was back in the game, invited to camp by the Baltimore Orioles on a minor league deal.
Now 20 years old and playing again with the swagger that got him drafted in the first place, Casey won the starting second base job at AA Bowie. His Road To The Show, would begin here.....

    Game: MLB The Show 15
    Difficulty: Dynamic
    Sliders: Armor & Swords
    Roster: OSFM V2.1

**One note concerning equipment. While in the minor leagues, I will use nothing rated higher than silver, once I get the the big leagues however(assuming that I do LOL) than everything is fair game.

      Benjamin Solid In AA Debut

Casey takes time to mingle with the fans

Richmond - Making his organizational and AA debut, 20 year old Casey Benjamin overcame some early jitters to end the day 1 for 3 with an RBI single and a run scored in a 4-2 Opening Day defeat to the Richmond Flying Squirrels.
Despite a smooth day in the field, Casey struggled early at the plate, popping out to second in the 3rd and then striking out looking in the 6th. In the 8th however Benjamin ripped a line drive RBI single to right to start a mini rally that was eventually extinguished with a bases loaded double play ground out by Jimmy Paredes that sealed the victory for Richmond.

Benjamin Re-Injures Knee In Victory Over Richmond

Baysox manager Gary Kendall announced the injury at the post game presser

Richmond- The unthinkable has happened. At some point during the Baysox 8-3 victory over Richmond in which he went 1-4 with an RBI single and a stolen base, starting 2B Casey Benjamin re-injured the knee that cost him all of 2014.
Although little is known about the seriousness of the injury or the prognosis, Bowie manager Gary Kendall called the injury a "sprained ACL" during his post game press conference and admitted that a DL stint was "likely."

Benjamin Lands On The DL, Injury Not Career Threatening

          Orioles GM Dan Duquette

Baltimore- Orioles General Manager Dan Duquette announced this afternoon that 20 year old 2B prospect Casey Benjamin was placed on the 15 day disabled list due to an ACL sprain of his reconstructed right knee.
Although thought to be a mild to moderate sprain, the club decided to play it safe in order to avoid further damage which could jeopardize the young prospect's career. Hopes are he can be back in uniform by late April/early May.

Relegated To Bench, Benjamin Vows To Work His Way Back

Benjamin makes a routine catch in left

Bowie- Baysox manager Gary Kendall announced today that 2B/LF Casey Benjamin has been relegated to utility man status with 23 year old Anthony Caronia taking over as the everyday 2B, and veteran Nolan Reimold remaining the everyday left fielder. Said Kendall: "This has nothing to due with Casey's performance, his work ethic, or his attitude. This is purely a baseball decision. I've spoken with Casey already and as you'd expect he was disappointed, he wants to play, but right now I just feel that Anthony and Nolan give us the best chance to win."
When asked how he felt about it, Benjamin was surprisingly candid, saying: "This organization gave me another chance when no one else was willing too. Then I got hurt again, maybe they don't think I can hold up, I don't know. All I can do is go out there and bust my *** every day in practice, and make the most of the opportunities I do get. One thing I will not do is pout, feel sorry for myself, that's just not who I am. Working hard has never done me wrong, so that's just what I plan on doing until I'm once again an everyday player."
